UV pumped two color phosphor blend White emitting LEDs

  • We have synthesized a $Eu^{2{\cdot}}$ -activated $Sr_3MgSi_2O_8$ blue phosphor and $Ba^{2{\cdot}}$ co-doped $Sr_2SiO_4$ yellow phosphor investigated an attempt to develop white LEDs by combining it with a GaN blue LED chip. Three distinct emission bands from the GaN-based LED and the ($Sr_3MgSi_2O_8$:Eu + $Ba^{2{\cdot}}$ co-doped $Sr_2SiO_4$:Eu) phosphor are clearly observed at 405nm, 455 nm and at around 540 nm, respectively. These three emission bands combine to give a spectrum that appears white to the naked eye. Our results show that GaN (405 nm chip)-based ($Sr_3MgSi_2O_8$:Eu + $Ba^{2{\cdot}}$ co-doped $Sr_2SiO_4$:Eu) exhibits a better luminous efficiency than that of the industrially available product InGaN (460 nm chip)-based YAG:Ce.

Designing Tyrosinase siRNAs by Multiple Prediction Algorithms and Evaluation of Their Anti-Melanogenic Effects

  • Melanin is a pigment produced from tyrosine in melanocytes. Although melanin has a protective role against UVB radiation-induced damage, it is also associated with the development of melanoma and darker skin tone. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme in melanin synthesis, which regulates the rate-limiting step during conversion of tyrosine into DOPA and dopaquinone. To develop effective RNA interference therapeutics, we designed a melanin siRNA pool by applying multiple prediction programs to reduce human tyrosinase levels. First, 272 siRNAs passed the target accessibility evaluation using the RNAxs program. Then we selected 34 siRNA sequences with ${\Delta}G{\geq}-34.6kcal/mol$, i-Score value ${\geq}65$, and siRNA scales score ${\leq}30$. siRNAs were designed as 19-bp RNA duplexes with an asymmetric 3' overhang at the 3' end of the antisense strand. We tested if these siRNAs effectively reduced tyrosinase gene expression using qRT-PCR and found that 17 siRNA sequences were more effective than commercially available siRNA. Three siRNAs further tested showed an effective visual color change in MNT-1 human cells without cytotoxic effects, indicating these sequences are anti-melanogenic. Our study revealed that human tyrosinase siRNAs could be efficiently designed using multiple prediction algorithms.

분진필터링 적용을 위한 SiC 섬유의 고온 열화분석 (Degradation analysis of SiC fiber at elevated temperature for dust filtering applications)

  • SiC 섬유는 $1800^{\circ}C$까지 불활성과 공기 분위기에서 융해나 산화 문제 없이 사용할 수 있다. SiC 섬유는 분진 필터링 공정의 백필터로 상업화된 산업용 백 필터보다 훨씬 높은 온도인 $500^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 사용이 가능하다. 하지만 제강 산업과 화력발전소의 극한 환경에서 미세 분진과의 반응으로 인한 SiC 섬유의 열화에 대한 연구는 부족하다. 따라서 본 실험에서는 SiC 섬유를 제강 분진, 화력발전소 분진과 $500^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 반응시켜 섬유 표면의 열화된 형상을 SEM으로 관찰하고 섬유 표면 및 내부로의 산소 확산의 정도를 EDS로 분석하였다.

Properties of Dinickel-Silicides Counter Electrodes with Rapid Thermal Annealing

  • Dinickel-silicide $(Ni_2Si)/glass$ was employed as a counter electrode for a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) device. $Ni_2Si$ was formed by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at $700^{\circ}C$ for 15 seconds of a 50 nm-Ni/50 nm-Si/glass structure. For comparison, $Ni_2Si$ on quartz was also prepared through conventional electric furnace annealing (CEA) at $800^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. XRD, XPS, and EDS line scanning of TEM were used to confirm the formation of $Ni_2Si$. TEM and CV were employed to confirm the microstructure and catalytic activity. Photovoltaic properties were examined using a solar simulator and potentiostat. XRD, XPS, and EDS line scanning results showed that both CEA and RTA successfully led to tne formation of nano $thick-Ni_2Si$ phase. The catalytic activity of $CEA-Ni_2Si$ and $RTA-Ni_2Si$ with respect to Pt were 68 % and 56 %. Energy conversion efficiencies (ECEs) of DSSCs with $CEA-Ni_2Si$ and $RTA-Ni_2Si$catalysts were 3.66 % and 3.16 %, respectively. Our results imply that nano-thick $Ni_2Si$ may be used to replace Pt as a reduction catalytic layer for a DSSCs. Moreover, we show that nano-thick $Ni_2Si$ can be made available on a low-cost glass substrate via the RTA process.

MoS2 기반의 쇼트키 반도체 광전소자 (MoS2-Embedded Schottky Photoelectric Devices)

  • A high-performing photoelectric device was realized for the $MoS_2$-embedded Si device. $MoS_2$-coating was performed by an available large-scale sputtering method. The $MoS_2$-layer coating on the p-Si spontaneously provides the rectifying current flow with a significant rectifying ratio of 617. Moreover, the highly optical transmittance of the $MoS_2$-layer provides over 80% transmittance for broad wavelengths. The $MoS_2$-embedded Si photodetector shows the sensitive photo-response for middle and long-wavelength photons due to the functional $MoS_2$-layer, which resolves the conventional limit of Si for long wavelength detection. The functional design of $MoS_2$-layer would provide a promising route for enhanced photoelectric devices, including photovoltaic cells and photodetectors.

산화구리 촉매담지 세라믹 캔들필터를 이용한 NO 제거 (Removal of NO Using CuO/3Al2O3 · 2SiO2 Catalyst Impregnated Ceramic Candle Filters)

  • The CuO/$3AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters for nitrogen oxides removal were prepared by porous mullite($3AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$) support and CuO catalyst deposited on this support to achieve uniformly dispersed CuO deposition, which are impregnated into the pores of available alumino-silicate ceramic candle filter. The CuO/3$AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters were characterized by XRD, BET, air permeability, pore size, SEM and catalytic tests in the reduction of NOx by NH$_3$. The observed effects of CuO/3$AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ impregnated ceramic candle filters in SCR reaction are as follows : (1) when the content of CuO catalyst increased further, activity of NO increased. (2) NO conversion at first increased with temperature and then decreased at high temperatures (above 40$0^{\circ}C$), possibly due to the occurrence of the ammonia oxidation reaction. (3) In pilot plant test for 3 months, NO conversion was greater than 90%.

FeSiCr 박편/폴리머 복합시트의 전자파 흡수 특성에 미치는 자성분말 두께의 영향 (Effects of Magnetic Powder Thickness on Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Characteristics in FeSiCr Flakes/Polymer Composite Sheets)

  • The effects of magnetic powder thickness on electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in Fe-6.5Si-0.9Cr (wt%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for quasi-microwave band have been investigated. The atomized FeSiCr powders were milled by using attritor for 12, 24, and 36 h, powder thickness changed from $40{\mu}m$ to $3{\mu}m$ upon 36 h milling. The composite sheet, including thinned magnetic flakes, exhibited higher power loss in the GHz frequency range as compared with the sheets having thick flakes. Moreover, both the complex permeability and the loss factor increased with the decrease in thickness of the alloy flakes. Therefore, the enhanced power loss property of the sheets containing thin alloy flakes was attributed to the flakes of high complex permeability, especially their imaginary part. Additionally, the complex permittivity was also increased with the reduction of flake thickness, and this behavior was considered to be helpful for improvement of the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in the composite sheets, including thin alloy flakes.

  • A CSA(Charge Sensitive Amplifier) was designed and fabricated for application in a radiation detection system based on a semiconductor detector such as Si, SiC, CdZnTe and etc.. A fabricated hybrid.type CSA was evaluated by comparison with a commercially available CSA. A comparison was performed by using calculation of ENC (Equivalent Noise Charge) and by using energy resolutions of fabricated radiation detectors based on Si. In energy resolution comparison, a fabricated CSA showed almost the same performance compared with a commercial one. In this study, feasibility of a fabricated CSA was discussed.

  • 고온에서 이용 가능한 수소 센서에 관해 연구하였다. 센서는 $Pd/Ta_2O_5/SiC$으로 구성된 MOS 구조로 제작되었으며, $Ta_2O_5$ 박막은 급속 열 산화법(RTO)법으로 형성하였다. 본 연구에서는 3가지 다른 패턴의 팔라듐(Pd) 전극으로 만든 센서를 제작하여, Pd 전극의 형태가 응답 특성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 센서는 Pd 전극의 채워진 면적이 클수록, 정전용량의 응답특성이 개선됨을 확인하였다.

  • This paper presents the implementation of wide-band RFIC amplifier operating from near 50MHz to 3GHz using Tachyonics SiGe HBT foundry. Voltage shunt feedback is used for the flat gain and the broad band impedance matching. Initial design parameters are calculated using the low frequency small signal analysis. Since the HBT model was not available at the design time, discrete tuning board was made for fine tuning in the low frequency range. Fabricated amplifier shows 12dB gain with 1dB fluctuation and PldB reaches 15dBm at 850MHz.
