A Study on Improving Performance of the Vehicular WAVE Antenna System using the EBG structure for ITS wireless communications (동향분석ITS 무선통신을 위한 EBG 구조를 적용한 자동차용 WAVE 안테나 시스템 성능향상연구)

  • This paper describes a design of the WAVE antenna system in V2X wireless communication systems for Intelligent Transport Systems. The WAVE standard protocols defined 5.825~5.9GHz frequency range for wireless communications with V2X. In a recent, A study of WAVE communication system it has been studied mainly the base station and the OBU technology in order to improve the communication performance of the communication distance. In this paper, the proposed vehicular WAVE antenna using the EBG structure is to improve performance. The proposed WAVE antenna with EBG shows improvement of return loss and radiation beam pattern. The performance of WAVE communication systems for intelligent transport systems is dependent on the performance of antenna. The proposed vehicular antenna for WAVE communication systems shows improvement of return loss for performance.

  • This paper proposes printed bow-tie antennas with 3 ~ 5 GHz broadband characteristics were proposed for testing the electromagnetic immunity of automotive electrical components in the 5G frequency band. The antenna get -10 dB bandwidth in the 2.75 ~ 6 GHz frequency band and the broadside radiation pattern with S11 characteristic of -16.2 dB at resonant frequency. In testing electromagnetic immunity in the 5G mobile communication frequency band, the VSWR characteristic remained below 2.1, forming a level of 1 W as proposed by international standards. As a result, it is confirmed that the proposed antenna can be applied to antenna testing for electromagnetic immunity verification in the 5G mobile communication frequency band.

Design and implementation of electromagnetic band-gap embedded antenna for vehicle-to-everything communications in vehicular systems

  • We proposed a novel electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) cell-embedded antenna structure for reducing the interference that radiates at the antenna edge in wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE) communication systems for vehicle-to-everything communications. To suppress the radiation of surface waves from the ground plane and vehicle, EBG cells were inserted between micropatch arrays. A simulation was also performed to determine the optimum EBG cell structure located above the ground plane in a conformal linear microstrip patch array antenna. The characteristics such as return loss, peak gain, and radiation patterns obtained using the fabricated EBG cell-embedded antenna were superior to those obtained without the EBG cells. A return loss of 35.14 dB, peak gain of 10.15 dBi at 80°, and improvement of 2.037 dB max at the field of view in the radiation beam patterns were obtained using the proposed WAVE antenna.

  • PE(Passive Entry) is an automotive technology which allows a driver to lock and unlock door of vehicle without using smart key buttons personally. PG(Pssive Go) is an automotive technology which offers the ability to start and stop the engine when there is a driver in vehicle with smart key. When these two functions are unified, we call it PEG(Passive Entry/Go). LF(Low Frequency) antenna driver which is one of core technologies in PEG is composed of a digital part which processes commands and an analog part which generates sine waveform. The digital part of antenna driver receives commands from MCU(or ECU), and processes requested commands by MCU, and stores antenna-related driver commands and data on an internal FIFO block. The digital part takes corresponding actions for commands read from FIFO and then transfers modulated LF data to analog part. The analog part generates sine waveform and transmits outside through antenna. The designed digital part for LF antenna driver can acomplish faster LF data transmission than that of conventional product. LF antenna driver can be applicable to the areas such as PEG for automotive and gate opening and closing of building.

77-GHz Slot Array Antenna Using PCB and ACF (PCB와 ACF를 이용한 77 GHz 슬롯 배열 안테나)

  • This study presents the performance evaluation results of a 77-GHz waveguide slot array antenna that was fabricated by attaching a patterned printed circuit board(PCB) on a metal block. The 77-GHz waveguide was divided into a top plate and a bottom structure. The top plate was fabricated using a patterned PCB that can implement a fine slot at low cost. The top cover was then bonded to the bottom metal structure with a waveguide trough using anisotropic conductive film. For evaluating the antenna performance, a $1{\times}16$ slot array antenna was fabricated using our proposed method and the gain and pattern were measured and compared with the simulation results. Though the measurement results demonstrate a reduction in gain of around 2.3~3.5 dB compared to the simulation results assuming ideal bonding conditions, the pattern hardly changed and the slot antenna with a gain of approximately 17 dBi at 77 GHz can be easily manufactured at a low cost using the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a procedure to optimize the design of 70GHz band array antenna for automotive short range radar sensor applications using Chebyshev polynomials. SRR(: Short Range Radar) systems require a wide angle width and low Side lobe level to detect targets within close proximity while ensuring a high Field of View(FoV). The optimized antenna operates in the 76 to 81GHz frequency range, and to reduce the antenna size, we arranged 12 patches in series, achieving an SLL of 10dB, angle with of 112.5o, gain of 15.4dB and an input return loss of less than -10dB at 78GHz. In this paper, we proceed with antenna design for SRR using Chebyshev polynomials, and present an optimal design for antenna structures to be used in MRR(: Medium-Range Radar) and LRR(: Long Range Radar) applications based on this paper

  • As more vehicles become equipped with advanced electronic control systems, more consideration is needed with regards to automotive safety issues related to the effects of electromagnetic waves. Unwanted electromagnetic waves from the antenna, electricity and other electronic devices cause the performance and safety problem of automotive components. In general, Power Integrity and Signal Integrity analysis have been widely used, but these analyses have stayed PCB level. PCB base analysis is different from radiated emission TEST condition so its results are used just for reference. This paper proposes EMC optimization technology using module level 3-dimensional radiation simulation process closed to fundamental test conditions. If module level EMC analysis, which is proposed in this study, is applied to all automotive electronics systems, unexpected EMC noise will be prevented.

  • This work presents a radar signal interferer to be used for evaluating the mutual interference among automotive radars. The developed interfering signal generator is composed of a reference signal generator and a 77 GHz transmitter. Reference signal generator is made up of commercial chips and board, it can generate various modulated signal such as triangular wave, sawtooth wave and random frequency hopping. The transmitter generates 77 GHz band signal by multiplying modulated reference signal frequency 28 times. Transmitter was fabricated using 65 nm CMOS process, it can operate horn antenna by built in on-chip waveguide feeder. The transmitter exhibited 7.31~8.06 dBm output power over a frequency lock range of 75.6~77 GHz.

High Efficiency Active Phased Array Antenna Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide (기판집적 도파관(SIW)을 기반으로 하는 고효율 능동 위상 배열안테나)

  • An X-band $8{\times}16$ dual-polarized active phased array antenna system has been implemented based on the substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) technology having low propagation loss, complete EM shielding, and high power handling characteristics. Compared with the microstrip case, 1 dB less is the measured insertion loss(0.65 dB) of the 16-way SIW power distribution network and doubled(3 dB improved) is the measured radiation efficiency(73 %) of the SIW sub-array($1{\times}16$) antenna element. These significant improvements of the power division loss and the radiation efficiency using the SIW, save more than 30 % of the total power consumption, in the active phased array antenna systems, through substantial reduction of the maximum output power(P1 dB) of the high power amplifiers. Using the X-band $8{\times}16$ dual-polarized active phased array antenna system fabricated by the SIW technology, the main radiation beam has been steered by 0, 5, 9, and 18 degrees in the accuracy of 2 degree maximum deviation by simply generating the theoretical control vectors. Performing thermal cycle and vacuum tests, we have found that the SIW array antenna system be eligible for the space environment qualification. We expect that the high efficiency SIW array antenna system be very effective for high performance radar systems, massive MIMO for 5G mobile systems, and various millimeter-wave systems(60 GHz WPAN, 77 GHz automotive radars, high speed digital transmission systems).
