  • In this paper, a code sequence generation method of the Suehiro sequence is suggested. In this method, a code sequence is generated only with integer sums and modular techniques. the auto-correlation and cross-correlation characteristics of the sequence generated by the method are investigated. The sequence generated by the suggested method has the orthogonality and satisfies the mathematical lower bound of the cross-correlation.

  • In this paper, we suggest a method for discretized frequency modulations of ultrasonic signals. A continuous sweep of frequency modulation signals can be modelled with fine levels of discretization. If the ultrasound signals are modulated with monotonically decreasing frequencies, then the cross-correlation between an emitted signal and received signal can be used to identify the distance of multiple target objects. For the discretized frequency synthesis, CF ultrasounds with different frequencies are serially ordered. The auto-correlation test with the signal shows effective results for distance estimation. The discretized frequency syntheses have better distance resolution than CF ultrasound signals and the resolution depends on the number of the combined ultrasound frequencies.

  • In this paper, an innovative finite element updating method is presented based on the variation wavelet transform coefficients of Auto/cross-correlations function (WTCF). The Quasi-linear sensitivity of the wavelet coefficients of the WTCF concerning the structural parameters is evaluated based on incomplete measured structural responses. The proposed algorithm is used to estimate the structural parameters of truss and plate models. By the solution of the sensitivity equation through the least-squares method, the finite element model of the structure is updated for estimation of the location and severity of structural damages simultaneously. Several damage scenarios have been considered for the studied structure. The parameter estimation results prove the high accuracy of the method considering measurement and mass modeling errors.

  • Aquifer responses to the river stage fluctuations were analyzed between the groundwater level and the river stage in an alluvial aquifer. The auto-correlation and cross-correlation as a time series analysis were applied. Study site is a floodplain in the Mangyeong river. Groundwater levels in each depth representing the silt and sand(SS), gravel and sand(GS), and weathered zone(WZ) layer were monitored. The groundwater levels were more sensitive to the river stage fluctuations than rainfall. Since the river stages are influenced by the gate operations downstream and tide, show periodic patterns, and the correlation coefficients with rainfall is low. Cross-correlation function between groundwater level in each depth do not show any delay time, then response time is very short to each depth. Cross-correlation analysis were performed to estimate the response time of groundwater levels to river stage fluctuations. Groundwater levels respond to the river stage within 30 minutes to 1 hour in wells near the stream. Short time lag between groundwater level and river stage indicates the quick response. A different response time imply the hydraulic inhomogeneity of the site, and a probable high permeability zone between river and aquifer can be inferred. Mangyeong-river in study site is a gaining stream normally, and river stage rising by gate operation or floods makes river water flow into groundwater. The auto-correlation and cross-correlation functions as a time series analysis can be a good tool to interpret the aquifer responses to stream stage fluctuation

  • In the era of the Internet of Things, 7 billion diverse devices have been interconnected worldwide. Ensuring information security across these varied devices is crucial in this hyper-connected age. To achieve essential security functions such as confidentiality, integrity, and authentication, it is imperative to implement true random number generators (TRNGs). Therefore, this study proposes a method to rapidly characterize the randomness of TRNGs. While there are international standards for formally characterizing the randomness of TRNGs, adhering to these standards often requires significant time and resources. This study aims to help TRNG developers enhance efficiency in both time and cost by characterizing rough randomness and unpredictability. Firstly, we propose applying auto-correlation and cross-correlation metrics for analog signals. Secondly, we suggest adopting joint entropy and mutual information metrics for digital signals.

  • In this paper, a family of binary sequences generated by GMW sequences and No sequences is introduced and analyzed. Each sequence within a family has period $N=2^n-1$, n=2m and there are $2^m$ sequences within that family. We obtain auto and cross-correlation values and linear span of the synthesized sequence.

  • We have analyzed optical matched filters considering the third order signals in the optical code division multiple access (CDMA) system based on optical series coupler access encoder (SCAE) and series coupler access decoder (SCAD). In previous studies, the performance evaluation of the optical CDMA system using SCAE and SCAD was not sufficiently accurate because they analyzed system performance only considering the first order signals. Since optical SCAE and SCAD intrinsically have high order signals of various patterns as the number of coupler increases, they change auto- and cross-correlation intensities. Thus, it is necessary to investigate properties of the third order signals so that we may analyze the exact performance of system. In this paper, we mathematically interpret the optical signals up to the third order, and analyzed the effects of th third order signals on auto- and cross-correlation intensities. In result, as ${\alpha}$(coupling coefficient) value increases, the intensity of the third order signals increases. It is found that the peak to side-lobe ratio considering the third order signals is degraded by 3.75 dB at N(coupler number)=5 and ${\alpha}$=0.5. Also if threshold value in receiver is set by main-lobe peak of the first order signals, it is found that the number of users in an optical CDMA system is limited because the intensity peak of side-lobes is raised by the third order signals.

  • When a mechanical structure is driven by stationary wide band random point forces, the resulting vibration depends upon the number, location, and joint statistical properties of the exciting forces. In this study, under the assumption of light damping, an approximate procedure for analyzing plates is briefly outlined. The effects of number, location and correlation of the force field on the vibration level are then investigated for various cases in which random point forces with band limited white noise are applied, and the optimal spacing between input forces that produces a relative minimum in the vibration response is predicted.

  • In this paper, we examine the fundamental performance of image coding schemes based on multipulse model. First, we introduce several kinds of pulse search methods (i.e., correlation method, pulse overlap search method and pulse amplitude optimization method) for the model. These pulse search methods are derived from auto-correlation function of impulse responses and cross-correlation function between host signals and impulse responses. Next, we explain the basic procedure of multipulse image coding scheme, which uses the above pulse search methods in order to encode the high frequency component of an original image. Finally, by means of computer simulation for some test images, we examine the PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and computational complexity of these methods.

  • Flow pulsation in the gap connecting with two parallel channels is investigated by RANS and URANS approaches. The two parallel channels are connected by a small channel called for a gap. The parallel channels are designed to have different cross section area with its ratio of 0.5. Computations are conducted using a CFX 11.0 code. The bulk Reynolds number is 60,000. Predicted results are compared with the previous experimental result. Mean velocity profile at the center of gap region are compared with experiments for its validation. Spectral analysis on the lateral velocity in the center of the gap is presented. Auto and cross correlation for the axial-flow velocity pattern are presented. The unsteady structure of the flow pulsation was visualized in the region of the gap in the parallel channel.
