  • In order to realize a smart home, a new type of service that converges the two technologies is required as a method to overcome the respective limitations of augmented reality and IoT technologies. Augmented reality recognizes objects and projects augmented content with the recognized objects on the screen. This technology mainly uses image processing methods such as markers as a method for recognizing objects. In this paper, an augmented reality-based IoT control platform using markers was developed. By defining a marker unique to the object, a unique identifier displayed on the camera was distinguished. A smart home system was implemented by calling a controller to control things. The proposed system receives state information of objects through symptom reality and transmits control commands. The proposed platform was verified by manipulating household lights.

  • This study analyzed paired middle school students' verbal and physical interactions in small group learning using augmented reality. Twelve 8th graders were paired to take classes of solubility and melting/boiling points based on augmented reality. These classes were videotaped and recorded. After the classes, all the students participated in a semi-structured interview. The results were analyzed in three sections; individual statement units of verbal interaction, interaction units of verbal interaction and physical interaction. In the individual statement units of verbal interaction, the proportion of information question/explanation was found to be high. In the interaction units of verbal interaction, the proportion of simple interaction was the highest, followed by elaborated interaction. Beneath the elaborate interaction, the proportion of cumulative interaction was found to be the highest, followed by reformative interaction. In the physical interaction, writing a worksheet and gazing at a virtual object were higher. On the basis of the results, effective ways to form a proper environment in small group learning using augmented reality are discussed.

  • AR(Augmented Reality) technology is now easily shown around us with respect to its applicable areas' being spreaded into various shapes since the usage is simply generalized and many-sided. Currently existing camera vision based AR used marker based methods rather than using real world's informations. For the marker based AR technology, there are limitations on applicable areas and its environmental properties that a user could immerse into the usage of application program. In this paper, we proposed a novel AR method which users could recognize objects from the real world's data and the related 3-dimensional contents are also displayed. Those are done using image processing skills and a smart mobile embedded camera for terminal based AR implementations without any markers. Object recognition is done from the comparison of pre-registered and referenced images. In this process, we tried to minimize the amount of computations of similarity measurements for improving working speed by considering features of smart mobile devices. Additionally, the proposed method is designed to perform reciprocal interactions through touch events using smart mobile devices after the 3-dimensional contents are displayed on the screen. Since then, a user is able to acquire object related informations through a web browser with respect to the user's choice. With the system described in this paper, we analyzed and compared a degree of object recognition, working speed, recognition error for functional differences to the existing AR technologies. The experimental results are presented and verified in smart mobile environments to be considered as an alternate and appropriate AR technology.

  • The non-face-to-face environment accelerated by COVID-19 has speeded up the dissemination of digital virtual ecosystems and metaverse. In order for the metaverse to be sustainable, digital twins that are compatible with the real world are key, and critical technology for that is AR (Augmented Reality). In this study, we examined research trends about AR, and will propose the directions for future AR research. We conducted LDA based topic modeling on 11,049 abstracts of published domestic and foreign AR related papers from 2009 to Mar 2022, and then looked into AR that was comprehensive research trends, comparison of domestic and foreign research trends, and research trends before and after the popularity of metaverse concepts. As a result, the topics of AR related research were deduced from 11 topics such as device, network communication, surgery, digital twin, education, serious game, camera/vision, color application, therapy, location accuracy, and interface design. After popularity of metaverse, 6 topics were deduced such as camera/vision, training, digital twin, surgical/surgical, interaction performance, and network communication. We will expect, through this study, to encourage active research on metaverse AR with convergent characteristics in multidisciplinary fields and contribute to giving useful implications to practitioners.

  • In recent years, a platform providing a Visual Programming development environment capable of 3D editing and interaction editing in an In-VR environment to quickly prototype VR/AR contents for education of VR and AR for general users and children. In the past, VR contents were mostly viewed by users. However, thanks to the rapid development of recent computing technologies, VR contents interacting with users have emerged as a device capable of tracking user behavior in a small size It was able to appear. In addition, because VR is extended to AR and MR, it can be used in all three virtual environments and requires efficient user interface(UI). In this paper, we propose UI based on eye tracking. Eye-tracking-based UI not only reduces the amount of time the user directly manipulates the controller, but also dramatically lowers the time spent on simple operations, while reducing the need for a dedicated controller by allowing multiple types of controllers to be used in combination. The proposed platform can easily create a prototype of their intended VR/AR App(or content) even for users(beginners) who do not have a certain level of knowledge and experience in 3D graphics and software coding, and share it with others. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to use VAL more effectively in a 5G environment.
