  • The power analysis attack is a cryptanalytic technique to retrieve an user's secret key using the side-channel power leakage occurred during the execution of cryptographic algorithm embedded on a physical device. Especially, many power analysis attacks have targeted on an exponentiation algorithm which is composed of hundreds of squarings and multiplications and adopted in public key cryptosystem such as RSA. Recently, a new correlation power attack, which is tried when two modular multiplications have a same input, is proposed in order to recover secret key. In this paper, after reviewing the principle of side-channel attack based on input collisions in modular multiplications, we analyze the vulnerability of some exponentiation algorithms having regularity property. Furthermore, we present an improved exponentiation countermeasure to resist against the input collision-based CPA(Correlation Power Analysis) attack and existing side channel attacks and compare its security with other countermeasures.

  • The international standard signature algorithm DSA has been guaranteed its security based on discrete logarithm problem. Recently, the DSA was known to be vulnerable to some fault analysis attacks in which the secret key stored inside of the device can be extracted by occurring some faults when the device performs signature algorithm. After analyzing an existing fault attack presented by Bao et al., this paper proposed a new fault analysis attack by disturbing the random number. Furthermore, we presented a countermeasure to compute DSA signature that has its immunity in the two types of fault attacks. The security and efficiency of the proposed countermeasure were verified by computer simulations.

  • In the ocean area surrounding the Korean Peninsula, the undersea earthquakes have occurred frequently during last decades. The eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula is very vulnerable to tsunami attacks which occur along the Western Coast of Japan. In special, the middle areas of the eastern coast of Korean Peninsula have been damaged due to the Central East Sea Tsunami occurred in 1983. Thus, tsunami hazard mitigation becomes an important issue at eastern coastal communities. The countermeasures against unexpected tsunami attacks are not sufficient because the government policy generally focused on not preventing but recovering. In this paper, a hazard map based on the field survey and tsunami evacuation simulation is developed to mitigate tsunami damage at Imwon port, which was severely damaged during the 1983 Central East Sea Tsunami.

  • Recently, pairings over elliptic curve have been applied for various ID-based encryption/signature/authentication/key agreement schemes. For efficiency, the $Eta_T$ pairings over GF($P^n$) (P = 2, 3) were invented, however, they are vulnerable to side channel attacks such as DPA because of their symmetric computation structure compared to other pairings such as Tate, Ate pairings. Several countermeasures have been proposed to prevent side channel attacks. Especially, Masaaki Shirase's method is very efficient with regard to computational efficiency, however, it has security flaws. This paper examines closely the security flaws of RVA-based countermeasure on $Eta_T$ Pairing algorithm from the implementation point of view.

  • North Korea's rapidly advancing drone development and operational capabilities have become a significant threat to South Korea's security. The drone incursions by North Korea in 2014, 2017, and 2022 demonstrate the technological advancement and provocative potential of North Korean drones. This study aims to closely analyze the military threats posed by North Korean drones and seek effective countermeasures. The research examines the development level of North Korean drone technology, its military applications, the characteristics and patterns of recent drone incursions, the adequacy and limitations of South Korea's current response systems, and future countermeasures. For this purpose, domestic and international research literature and media reports were reviewed, and specific North Korean drone incursion cases were analyzed. The results indicate that North Korea's small drones possess technological features such as small size, low altitude, low-speed flight, long-duration flight, and reconnaissance equipment. These drones pose threats that can be utilized for reconnaissance, surveillance, surprise attacks, and terrorism. Additionally, South Korea's current response systems reveal limitations such as inadequate detection and identification capabilities, low interception success rates, lack of an integrated response system, and insufficient specialized personnel and equipment. Therefore, this study suggests various technical, policy, and international cooperative countermeasures, including the development of drone detection and identification technologies, the utilization of diverse drone neutralization technologies, the establishment of legal and institutional foundations, the construction of a cooperative framework among relevant agencies, and the strengthening of international cooperation. The study particularly emphasizes the importance of raising awareness of the North Korean drone threat across South Korean society and unifying national efforts to respond to these threats.

  • As the use of RSA based on chinese remainder theorem(CRT-RSA) is being generalized, the security of CRT-RSA has been important. Since Bellcore researchers introduced the fault attacks on CRT-RSA, various countermeasures have been proposed. In 1999, Shamir firstly proposed a countermeasure using checking procedure. After Shamir's countermeasure was introduced, various countermeasures based on checking procedure have been proposed. However, Shamir's countermeasure was known to be vulnerable to the modified operand attack by Joey et al. in 2001, and the checking procedure was known to be vulnerable to the modified opcode attack by Yen et al. in 2003. Yen et al. proposed a new countermeasure without checking procedure, but their countermeasure was known to be also vulnerable to the modified operand attack by Yen and Kim in 2007. In this paper, we point out that pre, but countermeasures were vulnerable to the modified operand attack or the modified opcode attack.

  • Security has long been a challenging problem in wireless networks, mainly due to its broadcast nature of communication. This opens up simple yet effective measures to thwart useful communications between legitimate radios. Spread spectrum technologies, such as direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS), have been developed as effective countermeasures against, for example, jamming attacks. This paper surveys previous research on securing a DSSS channel even further, using physical layer attributes-keyless DSSS mechanisms, and watermarked DSSS (WDSSS) schemes. The former has been motivated by the fact that it is still an open question to establish and share the secret spread sequence between the transmitter and the receiver without being noticed by adversaries. The basic idea of the latter is to exploit the redundancy inherent in DSSS's spreading process to embed watermark information. It can be considered a counter measure (authentication) for an intelligent attacker who obtains the spread sequence to generate fake messages. This paper also presents and evaluates an adaptive DSSS scheme that takes both jam resistance and communication efficiency into account.

  • Today, our society is exposed to cyber threats, such as the leakage of personal information, as various systems are connected and operated organically with the development of information and communication technology. With the impact of these cyber risks, we are experiencing damage from the virtual world to the physical world. As the number of cases of damage caused by cyber attacks has continued to rise, social voices have risen that the government needs to manage cyber risks. Thus, information and telecommunication service providers are now mandatory to have insurance against personal information protection due to amendment of "the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection". However, the insurance management system has not been properly prepared, with information and communication service providers selecting the service operators based on sales volume rather than selecting them based on the type and amount of personal information they store and manage. In order for the personal information protection liability insurance system to be used more effectively in line with the legislative purpose, effective countermeasures such as cooperation with the government and related organizations and provision of benefits for insured companies should be prepared. Thus, the author of this study discuss the current status of personal information protection liability insurance system and the issues raised in the operation of the system. Based on the results of this analysis, the authors propsoe tasks and plans to establish an effective personal information protection liability insurance system.

  • In this paper, we want to solve the problems that users want to search the progress of attack, continuity of attack, association between attackers and victims, blocking priority and countermeasures by using visualization interface with multi-rotational axis and radial axis structure. It is possible to effectively monitor and track security events by arranging a time series event based on a multi-rotational axis structured by an event generation order, a subject of an event, an event type, and an emission axis, which is an objective time indicating progress of individual events. The proposed interface is a practical visualization interface that can apply attack blocking and defense measures by providing the progress and progress of the whole attack, the details and continuity of individual attacks, and the relationship between attacker and victim in one screen.
