  • This paper analyzes the secrecy performance of an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay network, where a multi-antenna eavesdropper attempts to overhear the transmitted message from a multi-antenna source to a multi-antenna destination with a single antenna relay. Firstly, we derive the approximate analytical expressions for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and average secrecy rate (ASR) of the relay network. Then, asymptotic expressions of SOP and ASR at high main-to-eavesdropper ratio (MER) are also provided to reveal the diversity gain of the secure communication. Finally, numerical results are given to verify the theoretical analysis and show the effect of the number of antennas in the considered relay network.

  • An asymmetric least squares estimation method has been employed to estimate linear models for percentile regression. An asymmetric maximum likelihood estimation (AMLE) has been developed for the estimation of Poisson percentile linear models. In this study, we propose generalized nonlinear percentile regression using the AMLE, and the use of the parametric bootstrap method to obtain confidence intervals for the estimates of parameters of interest and smoothing functions of estimates. We consider three conditional distributions of response variables given covariates such as normal, exponential, and Poisson for three mean functions with one linear and two nonlinear models in the simulation studies. The proposed method provides reasonable estimates and confidence interval estimates of parameters, and comparable Monte Carlo asymptotic performance along with the sample size and quantiles. We illustrate applications of the proposed method using real-life data from chemical and radiation epidemiological studies.

  • We study the effect of detrending on the coherency between two time series processes. Many economic and financial time series variables include nonstationary components; however, we analyze the two most popular cases of stochastic and deterministic trends. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of coherency under incorrect detrending, which includes the cases of first-differencing the deterministic trend process and, conversely, the time trend removal of the unit root process. A simulation study is performed to investigate the finite sample performance of the sample coherency due to incorrect detrending. Our work is expected to draw attention to the possible distortion of coherency when the series are incorrectly detrended. Further, our results can extend to various specification of trends in aggregate time series variables.

  • This paper presents a Modified Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (MACSMC) system for the longitudinal motion control of the Fully-Submerged Hydrofoil Craft (FSHC) in the presence of time varying disturbance and uncertain perturbations. The nonlinear disturbance observer is designed with less conservatism that only boundedness of the derivative of the disturbance is required. Then, a complementary sliding mode control system combined with adaptive law is designed to reduce the bound of stabilization error with fast convergence. In particularly, the modified complementary sliding mode surface which contains the estimation of the disturbance can reduce the switching gain and retain the normal performance of the system. Moreover, a hyperbolic tangent function contained in the control law is utilized to attenuate the chattering of the actuator. The global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated utilizing the Lyapunov stability theory. Ultimately, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • This study proposes a new approach to implimentation of robust control and torque control response analysis based on monitoring simulator for smart factory. According to the physical properties of a flexible manipulator, a two time-scale approach, namely, singular perturbation ap proach, is further utilized for thorough analysis and general controller design. It is shown that asymptotic motional tracking can be effectively achieved, whereas the force regulation errors can be made arbitrarily small. For demonstration of the proposed technology performance, experiments of a eight joint flexible manipulator are performed for the proposed control method, and the reliability of proposed control results are illustrated based on monitoring simulator.

  • In this paper, we consider a sectorized wireless powered sensor network (WPSN), wherein sensor nodes are clustered based on sectors and transmit data to the cluster head (CH) using energy harvested from a hybrid access point. We construct a system model for this sectorized WPSN and find optimal coordinates of CH that maximize the achievable transmission rate of sensing data. To obtain the optimal CH with low overhead, we perform an asymptotic geometric analysis (GA). Simulation results show that the proposed GA-based CH selection method is close to the optimal performance exhibited by exhaustive search with a low feedback overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose a change point detection procedure based on the modified information criterion in a generalized lambda distribution (GLD) model. Simulations are conducted to obtain empirical critical values of the proposed test statistic. We have also conducted simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed methods comparing to the log-likelihood method in terms of power, coverage probability, and confidence sets. Our results indicate that, under various conditions, the proposed method modified information criterion (MIC) approach shows good finite sample properties. Furthermore, we propose a new goodness-of-fit testing procedure based on the energy distance to evaluate the asymptotic null distribution of our test statistic. Two real data applications are provided to illustrate the use of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a new estimation method based on the maximum product of spacings for estimating unknown parameters of the three-parameter Weibull distribution under a generalized Type-II progressive hybrid censoring scheme which guarantees a constant number of observations and an appropriate experiment duration. The proposed approach is appropriate for a situation where the maximum likelihood estimation is invalid, especially, when the shape parameter is less than unity. Furthermore, it presents the enhanced performance in terms of the bias through the Monte Carlo simulation. In particular, the superiority of this approach is revealed even under the condition where the maximum likelihood estimation satisfies the classical asymptotic properties. Finally, to illustrate the practical application of the proposed approach, the real data analysis is conducted, and the superiority of the proposed method is demonstrated through a simple goodness-of-fit test.

  • In the present study, we propose new type of a spinning disk reactor(SDR) with high performance and very convenient structure to make a large scale equipment from lab-scale than the conventional one. A split-disk experimental equipment, based on new type of spinning disk reactor, has been developed to generate an energy to break a bulk of injected gas into smaller gas bubble. Several cases of an experimental observation make it to confirm that a bulk of injecting gas could be continuously break into smaller bubbles. It shows the feasibility to make a scale-up of SDR by using the characteristic of Taylor-Proudman column in rotating flow. A theoretical study on single phase liquid flow is given to predict a liquid induced shear stress, which make the present study to be self-containment.

  • This paper proposes an EMPC (Explicit Model Predictive Controller) for temperature tracking control based on heat load prediction by an ESO (Extended State Observer) for a variable cooling circulation system with multiple indoor units connected to one outdoor unit. In this system, heat transfer and heat loss relative to the input temperature are modeled using system dynamics. Using this model, we design an EMPC based on an ESO that is robust to temperature changes and depends on airflow. To determine the stability of both the controller and the observer, asymptotic stability is verified through Lyapunov stability analysis. Finally, to validate the performance of the proposed controller, simulations are conducted under three scenarios with varying airflow, set temperature, and heat load.
