  • In this paper, twicing technique for the improvement of asymptotic boundary bias in nonparametric regression is considered. Asymptotic mean squared errors of the nonparametric regression estimators are derived at the boundary region by twicing the Nadaraya-Waston and local linear smoothing. Asymptotic biases of the resulting estimators are of order$h^2$and$h^4$ respectively.

  • The method of Asymptotic Inner Boundary Condition for Singularly Perturbed Two-Point Boundary value Problems is presented. By using a terminal point, the original second order problem is divided in to two problems namely inner region and outer region problems. The original problem is replaced by an asymptotically equivalent first order problem and using the stretching transformation, the asymptotic inner condition in implicit form at the terminal point is determined from the reduced equation of the original second order problem. The modified inner region problem, using the transformation with implicit boundary conditions is solved and produces a condition for the outer region problem. We used Chawla's fourth order method to solve both the inner and outer region problems. The proposed method is iterative on the terminal point. Some numerical examples are solved to demonstrate the applicability of the method.

  • The asymptotic Dirichlet problem for harmonic functions on a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold has a long history. It is to find the harmonic function satisfying the given Dirichlet boundary condition at infinity. By now, it is well understood [A, AS, Ch, S], when M is a Cartan-Hadamard manifold with sectional curvature $-b^2 \leq K_M \leq -a^2 < 0$. (By a Cartan-Hadamard manifold, we mean a complete simply connected manifold of non-positive sectional curvature.)

  • In this paper a numerical method is presented to solve singularly perturbed two points boundary value problems for second order ordinary differential equations consisting a discontinuous source term. First, in this method, an asymptotic expansion approximation of the solution of the boundary value problem is constructed using the basic ideas of a well known perturbation method WKB. Then some initial value problems and terminal value problems are constructed such that their solutions are the terms of this asymptotic expansion. These initial value problems are happened to be singularly perturbed problems and therefore fitted mesh method (Shishkin mesh) are used to solve these problems. Necessary error estimates are derived and examples provided to illustrate the method.

  • In this paper, we prove the existence of nonconstant bounded harmonic maps on a Cartan-Hadamard manifold of pinched negative curvature by solving the asymptotic Dirichlet problem. To be precise, given any continuous data f on the boundary at infinity with image within a ball in the normal range, we prove that there exists a unique harmonic map from the manifold into the ball with boundary value f.

  • This paper utilizes computational asymptotic analysis to compute the boundary layer solution for composite beams and validates the findings through a comparison with ANSYS results. The boundary layer solution, presented as a sum of the interior solution and pure boundary layer effects, necessitates a mathematically rigorous formalization for both interior and boundary layer aspects. Computational asymptotic analysis emerges as a robust technique for addressing such problems. However, the challenge lies in connecting the boundary layer and interior solutions. In this study, we systematically separate the principles of virtual work and the principles of Saint-Venant to tackle internal and boundary layer issues. The boundary layer solution is articulated by calculating the Papkovich-Fadle eigenfunctions, representing them as linear combinations of real and imaginary vectors. To address warping functions in the interior solutions, we employed a least squares method. The computed solutions exhibit excellent agreement with 2D finite element analysis results, both quantitatively and qualitatively. This validates the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach in capturing the behavior of composite beams.

  • In order to examine the validity of an asymptotic solution obtained from the method of multiple scales, we investigate a third-order subharmonic resonance response of a bar constrained by a nonlinear spring to a harmonic excitation. The motion of the bar is governed by a linear partial differential equation with a nonlinear boundary condition. The nonlinear boundary value problem is solved by using the finite difference method. The numerical solution is compared with the asymptotic solution.
