아스팔트 포장층 분리억제용 역청재료의 부착성능 및 최적함량 평가에 대한 연구 (A Study of Evaluation for Optimum Content and Bond Strength Properties of Bituminous Materials applied for preventing Separation of Asphalt Pavement Layers)

  • OBJECTIVES : Bituminous materials, such as tack coat, are utilized between pavement layers for improving the bond strength in pavement construction sites. The standards regarding the application of bituminous material are not clearly presented in the Korean construction guideline without RS(C)-4. Hence, the objective of this study is to determine the optimum content of bituminous materials by analyzing interlayer shear strength (ISS) from the direct shear tester, which was developed in this research. The shear strength of tack coat was defined with the sort of bituminous materials. METHODS : The mixtures for the shear test were made using marshall mix design. The specimens were vertically and horizontally separated for the direct shear test. The separated specimens were bonded using bituminous material. The objectives of the experiment are to determine the performance of bond and shear properties resulting from slippage, rutting, shovel, and corrugation of asphalt pavements. A machine based on the Louisiana interlayer shear strength tester (LISST) of NCHRP Report-712 was developed to determine the ISS. The applied types of tack coat were RS(C)-4, AP-3, QRS-4, and BD-coat with contents of $0.3{\ell}/m^2$, $0.45{\ell}/m^2$, $0.6{\ell}/m^2$, and $0.8{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. RESULTS : Table 2 gives the results of the direct shear test using the developed shear machine. The BD-coat type indicated the highest average ISS value compared to the others. Between the surface and binder course, optimum tack coat application rates for AP-3, RS(C)-4, QRS-4, and BD-Coat were $0.6{\ell}/m^2$, $0.3{\ell}/m^2$, $0.6{\ell}/m^2$, and $0.45{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. These optimum contents were determined using the ISS value. CONCLUSIONS : The ISS values of AP-3, RS(C)-4, and QRS-4 showed similar tendencies when ISS increased in the range $0.3{\sim}0.6{\ell}/m^2$, while ISS decreased when the applied rate exceeded $0.6{\ell}/m^2$. Similarly, the highest ISS value of the BD-coat was observed when the applied rate was $0.45{\ell}/m^2$. However, shear strength was similar to the maximum value of ISS when the tack-coat application rate of BD-Coat exceeded $0.45{\ell}/m^2$.

아스팔트 콘크리트 포장용 균열실링재의 부착특성 평가 (Evaluation of Adhesion Characteristics of Crack Sealants Used in Asphalt Concrete Pavement)

  • Cracking is an inevitable fact of asphalt concrete pavements and plays a major role in pavement deterioration. Pavement cracking is one of the main factors determining the frequency and method of repair. Cracks can be treated with a number of preventative maintenance actions, including overlay surface treatments such as slurry sealing, crack sealing, or crack filling. Pavement cracks can show up as one or all of the following types: transverse, longitudinal, fatigue, block, reflective, edge, and slippage. Crack sealing is a frequently used pavement maintenance treatment because it significantly extends the pavement service life. However, crack sealant often fails prematurely due to a loss of adhesion. Because current test methods are mostly empirical and only provide a qualitative measure of the bond strength, they cannot accurately predict the adhesive failure of the sealant. This study introduces a laboratory test aimed at assessing the bonding of hot-poured crack sealant to the walls of pavement cracks. A pneumatic adhesion tensile testing instrument (PATTI) was adopted to measure the bonding strength of the hot-poured crack sealant as a function of the curing time and temperature. Based on a limited number of test results, the hot-poured crack sealants have very different bonding performances. Therefore, this test method can be proposed as part of a newly developed performance-based standard specification for hot-poured crack sealants for use in the future. PURPOSES : The purpose of this study was to evaluate both the adhesion and failure performance of a crack sealant as a function of its curing time and curing temperature. METHODS: A pneumatic adhesion tensile testing instrument (PATTI) was adopted to measure the adhesion performance of a crack sealant as a function of the curing time and curing temperature. RESULTS: With changes in the curing time, curing temperature, and sealant type, the bond strengths were found to be significantly different. Also, higher bond strengths were measured at lower temperatures. Different sealant types produced completely different bond strengths and failure behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: The bonding strength of an evaluated crack sealant was shown to differ depending on various factors. Two sealant types, which were composed of different raw materials, were shown to perform differently. The newly proposed test offers the possibility of evaluating and differentiating between different crack sealants. Based on alimited number of test results, this test method can be proposed as part of a newly developed performance-based standard specification for crack sealants or as part of a guideline for the selection of hot-poured crack sealant in the future.

포장용 롤러전압콘크리트의 다짐도와 압축강도의 상관관계 분석 (Analysis of Relationship Between Compressive Strength and Compaction Ratio of Roller-Compacted Concrete Pavement)

  • 롤러전압콘크리트포장 공법은 기존 시멘트 콘크리트 공법의 재료 특성 및 아스팔트 포장의 시공특성을 공유하는 포장 방식이다. 일반 시멘트 콘크리트 포장의 우수한 구조적 성능을 유지하면서, 아스팔트 시공 장비를 사용하여 간소한 시공절차로 경제성을 확보할 수 있다. 롤러전압콘크리트포장 공법은 수화반응과 롤러다짐에 의한 골재 맞물림 효과로 일반 시멘트 콘크리트 포장보다 적은 시멘트량을 사용하여도 충분한 강도를 발현할 수 있다. 또한 일반 시멘트 콘크리트 포장과 동등한 강도 특성을 발휘 할 수 있으며, 본 연구에서는 RCCP의 다짐도와 압축강도의 관계를 정량적으로 도출하고자 한다. 롤러전압콘크리트의 다짐에너지를 변화시키면서 다양한 다짐도를 갖는 시편을 제작하였다. 다짐도는 시편의 건조단위중량과 최대건조단위중량의 비로 정의하였으며, 다양한 다짐도로 성형된 시편의 28일 압축강도를 평가하였고, 다짐도에 따른 강도비의 관계를 도출 하였다. 따라서 롤러전압콘크리트 공법의 국내 현장적용을 위한 다짐도에 따른 강도비의 중요성을 부각하여 현장 다짐도 관리에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

공항 콘크리트 포장 구조해석을 위한 3차원 유한요소 모형 개발 (Development of Three-Dimensional Finite Element Model for Structural Analysis of Airport Concrete Pavements)

  • PURPOSES : In this study, a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) model for airport concrete pavement was developed using the commercial program ABAQUS. Users can select an analysis method and set the range of input parameters to reflect actual conditions such as environmental loading. METHODS : The geometrical shape of the FEA model was chosen by considering the concrete pavement located in the third-stage construction site of Incheon International Airport. Incompatible eight-node elements were used for the FEA model. Laboratory test results for the concrete specimens fabricated at the construction site were used as material properties of the concrete slab. The material properties of the cement-treated base suggested by the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) manual were used as those of the lean concrete subbase. In addition, preceding studies and pavement evaluation reports of Incheon International Airport were referred for the material properties of asphalt base and subgrade. The kinetic friction coefficient between the concrete slab and asphalt base acquired from a preceding study was used for the friction coefficient between the layers. A nonlinear temperature gradient according to slab depth was used as an input parameter of environmental loading, and a quasistatic method was used to analyze traffic loading. The average load transfer efficiency obtained from an Heavy falling Weight Deflectomete(HWD) test was converted to a spring constant between adjacent slabs to be used as an input parameter. The reliability of the FEA model developed in this study was verified by comparing its analysis results to those of the FEAFAA model. RESULTS : A series of analyses were performed for environmental loading, traffic loading, and combined loading by using both the model developed in this study and the FEAFAA model under the same conditions. The stresses of the concrete slab obtained by both analysis models were almost the same. An HWD test was simulated and analyzed using the FEA model developed in this study. As a result, the actual deflections at the center, mid-edge, and corner of the slab caused by the HWD loading were similar to those obtained by the analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The FEA model developed in this study was judged to be utilized sufficiently in the prediction of behavior of airport concrete pavement.

포장가속시험을 이용한 소성변형예측 모델의 검증 (Validation of Permanent Deformation Model for Flexible Pavement using Accelerated Pavement Testing)

  • 본 연구는 포장가속시험을 이용하여 다양한 온도와 하중재하방법에 따라 아스팔트 포장에 발생하는 소성변형의 특성을 분석하고, 주요 시험결과를 유한요소해석으로 예측하는 방법을 제시하고 있다. 가속시험용 포장단면은 한국도로공사 시험도로 대표 단면 중에 하나를 선정하여 동일하게 시공하고 3가지 온도조건(30, 40, $50^{\circ}C$)에서 반복이동하중에 의한 소성변형을 비교 분석하였다. 차량의 원더링 효과를 모사하기 위하여 가속시험기를 횡방향으로 좌우 35cm 범위 내에서 5cm 간격으로 이동하면서 시험을 수행하였다. 아울러 3가지 원더링 조건에 의한 소성변형의 차이도 수치해석을 통해서 검토하였다. 유한요소해석을 위하여 ABAQUS를 사용하였으며 가속시험 포장 단면을 plain strain 요소로 모델링하였다. 포장 층의 탄성계수는 FWD 시험에 의한 역산결과로 추정하였으며, 소성변형에 영향을 미치는 아스팔트 혼합물의 시간 의존성은 크리프 모델(creep model)로 고려하였다. 그리고 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석에 미치는 모델의 경계조건과 노상의 모델 포함 여부에 따른 영향을 두 가지 모델(전체모델과 부분모델)로 구분하여 검토하였다. 해석결과 두 가지 모델이 예측한 소성변형은 그 크기와 영향 범위에서 확연한 차이를 보였으며 계측결과와 비교하여 보면 노상이 모델에 포함하여야 할 것으로 판단되었다.

  • 주된 도시들의 불투수성 포장화에 따른 현상으로 토양의 사막화를 일으키고 있으며, 나아가, 도시 온난화 현상을 발생시켜 도시지역의 평균 온도를 올리는 원인이 되고 있다. 이로 인해 우수가 투수성 토양에 흡수되거나 잔류되어야 하는 양이 줄어듦에 따라 자주 도심지내에서 범람이 되는 현상을 보여주고 있다. 결국은 우수시스템이 제대로 작동하지 않고 침식이 발생하고 있다. 투수성 포장시스템과 관련해서는 블록 포장이 여러 군데서 수년 동안 사용되어 왔다. 또한 투수성 블록 포장은 전통적으로 사용된 아스팔트 포장 및 콘크리트 포장에 비해 다양한 형태로 사용될 수 있는 장점과 더불어 타 포장보다 미적으로 낳은 면을 보여 주고 있다. 따라서 도로의 현장 조건을 모사하기 위해 본 연구에서는 실험용 슬러지 및 휠 트래킹 장비를 이용한 블록 포장의 기능적인 투수성 평가를 실시하였다.

방사선측정치를 이용한 아스콘 포장 및 노상의 현장밀도와 함수비 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Determination of Density and Moisture Content of Asphalt Concrete Pavement and Subgrade Using Nuclear Density Meter)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the criteria for density and moisture content measurements made with a nuclear density meter on common materials in the construction field. The study also sought to test a full-type nuclear density meter in controlling the density of overlay layers( 2.5~5.0cm). In order to determine the accuracy and reliablility of nuclear guage measurements made on construction materials, laboratory and field tests were conducted. Wooden blocks( 65 x 45 ${\times}$ 50 cm) and a special steel compactor( 4.7kg) were constructed in order to carry out tests which were conducted on three different materials; coarse gramed soil, fine grained soil, and AC material. Throughout all laboratory and field tests, the nuclear density and moisture content were determined using Humboldt 5OOLP nuclear gauge. The tests on subgrade material entailed obtaining density measurements by means of both the sand replacement method and the nuclear density meter. The results of the sand replacement method were then compared to the readings recorded bu the meter. As in the subgrade material tests, density measurements made during AC pavement tests were also determined using the unclear meter in addition to a second means; through the core method. The meter readings and core densties were compared as was done in the tests on subgrade materials. The correlation between the results of the sand replacement test( also, the core method) and meter readings on subgrade material was then determined. Sirnilarly, the observed results were then analyzed through linear regression. The tests to determine thin-lift density by means of a full-type nuclear density meter also conducted on the overlay layers( about 4. 8cm thickness) above AC pavements at road construction sities in Korea.

시험도로 건설과 계측시스템 구축 (A Review of Instrumentation System and Construction of Korea Highway Test Road)

  • The cost needed for the construction and management of highways in the whole nation is rapidly growing so the research that can decrease the cost is required. However, most of the highway specs have simply converted from those of other countries, including USA. Therefore, some of our design and construction specs were not the optimum ones based on our own situation, requiring a research under the actual traffic and environment of our nation. The use of test road develops many aspects of highway engineering. Those are evaluation of construction materials, a general overview of korea pavement design and serviceability under the actual traffic and environmental condition of the nation. It is also economical and efficient compared to the trial construction of each item in spreaded form. A test road, 7.7km long with two lanes, is being constructed on the Inner Central Expressway. In this test road, 2.7km is planned for asphalt pavement and 3.4km is planned for concrete pavement. Three test bridges and five earth retaining structures will be included in the test road. Based on the master plan, the major performance was progressing such as detailed research modules of each area, preliminary research for the future research, sensor surveys for the behavior analyses of pavements and structures with installation methods and data acquisition systems, the foundation research of Integrated Instrumentation System and the Management Plan for automated measurement. Some area(structure research division, geotechnical research division) was designed the instrumentation plan because some instrument sensors must be installed during the construction of the test road. And then the instrumentation plan of each area was enforcing because a large majority of the instrument sensors must be installed after the construction of the test road. The field surveys with material property tests and pilot instrumentation test with sensor tests was also performing in accordance with the construction in the field.

서울시 배수성 아스팔트 포장의 기능적 평가 연구 (Study on the Functional Evaluation of Permeable Asphalt Concrete Pavement in Seoul City)

  • 배수성 포장에 있어 기능적 평가인 투수성 실험과 더불어 소음저감 측정을 서울시에서 시공한 구간에서 실시하였다. 소음측정은 두 가지 방법을 이용하였는데 그 방법은 Pass-by 방법과 NCPX(Novel Close Proximity) 방법을 이용하였다. Passby 방법은 교통량에 따른 소음원이 전달되는 것을 측정하는 방법이고, NCPX는 타어어와 포장 표면간의 마찰음을 측정하는 방법이다. 현장투수시험을 위해서는 총 5개의 구간에서 실시하였으며 각 구간마다 주행부와 비주행부로 나뉘어 측정하였다. 3개 구간의 Pass-by 측정을 위해서는 교통소음원 발생점으로부터 인접한 곳에서 측정을 실시하였고 또한 공원내부 혹은 단지 내부에서도 소음을 측정하였다. 마지막으로 NCPX 측정은 4군데서 실시하였다. 결과적으로 배수성 포장의 기능인 투수성과 소음저감이 2, 3년 사이에서는 그 기능을 잘 유지함을 알 수 있었다.

3축 가속도 시험을 통한 도로 노면의 주행 안정성 평가에 대한 연구 (Study About the Evaluation of Driving Stability Using 3-axis Accelerometer Test)

  • 본 논문은 인체에 영향을 미치는 진동에 따라 도로노면의 주행성을 정량화하고 향후 공용중인 도로 및 신설도로의 주행 안전성 평가에 적용할 수 있는 방법론을 정립하는 것이 주요 목적이다. 이를 위해 평탄성 및 인체 피로도 관련 조사를 수행하여 이론적 근거를 수립하였고 다양한 고속도로 표본 구간을 선정하여 차량 내 3축 가속도를 측정하였다. 도로 상태별로 ISO-2631에 준한 주파수별 가속도 값을 분류화함으로써 노면상태에 따른 인체에 미치는 진동 가속도 수준을 정량화할 수 있었다. 연구 결과, 전반적으로 인체에 미치는 피로도는 IRI가 높은 콘크리트 포장이 크게 유발시키는 것으로 나타났으며, SMA 포장과 다이아몬드그라인딩이 적용된 콘크리트 포장은 상대적으로 피로도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다.
