High Sensitivity and Selectivity of Array Gas Sensor through Glancing Angle Deposition Method

  • In this study, we propose an array-type gas sensor with high selectivity and response using multiple oxide semiconductors. The sensor array was composed of SnO2 and In2O3, and the detection characteristics were improved by using Pt, Au, and Pd catalysts. All samples were deposited directly on the Pt interdigitated electrode (IDE) through the e-beam evaporator glancing angle deposition (GAD) method. They grew in the form of well-aligned nanorods at off-axis angles. The prepared SnO2 and In2O3 nanorod samples were exposed to CH3COCH3, C7H8, and NO2 gases in a 300℃ dry condition. Au-decorated SnO2, Au-decorated In2O3, and Pd-decorated In2O3 exhibited high selectivity for CH3COCH3, C7H8, and NO2, respectively. They demonstrated a high detection limit of the sub ppb level computationally. In addition, measurements from each sensor were executed in the 40% relative humidity condition. Although there was a slight reduction in detection response, high selectivity and distinguishable detection characteristics were confirmed.

  • Security and monitoring system has many applications and commonly used for detection, warning, alarm, etc. As the networking technology advances, user requirements are getting higher. An intelligent and cooperative surveillance system is proposed to meet current user demands and improve the performance. This paper focuses on the implementation issue for the embedded intelligent surveillance system. To cover wide area cooperative function is implemented and connected by wireless sensor network technology. Also to improve the performance lots of sensors are employed into the surveillance system to reduce the error but improve the detection probability. The proposed surveillance system is composed of vision sensor (camera), mic array sensor, PIR sensor, etc. Between the sensors, data is transferred by IEEE 802.11s or Zigbee protocol. We deployed a private network for the sensors and multiple gateways for better data throughput. The developed system is targeted to the traffic accident detection and alarm. However, its application can be easily changed to others by just changing software algorithm in a DSP chip.

산화물 반도체를 이용한 최신 호기센서 기술 동향 (Recent Developments in Metal Oxide Gas Sensors for Breath Analysis)

  • Breath analysis is rapidly evolving as a non-invasive disease recognition and diagnosis method. Metal oxide gas sensors are one of the most ideal platforms for realizing portable, hand-held breath analysis devices in the near future. This paper reviewed the recent developments in metal oxide gas sensors detecting exhaled biomarker gases such as nitric oxides, acetone, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrocarbons. Emphasis was placed on strategies to tailor sensing materials/films capable of highly selective and sensitive detection of biomarker gases with negligible cross-response to ethanol, the major interfering breath gas. Specific examples were given to highlight the validity of the strategies, which include optimization of sensing temperature, doping additives, utilizing acid-base interaction, loading catalysts, and controlling gas reforming reaction. In addition, we briefly discussed the design and optimization method of gas sensor arrays for implementing the simultaneous assessment of multiple diseases. Breath analysis using high-performance metal oxide gas sensors/arrays will open new roads for point-of-care diagnosis of diseases such as asthma, diabetes, kidney dysfunction, halitosis, and lung cancer.

수차 모형 배열을 이용한 표적추정 (Focused) 빔형성기 성능분석 (Analysis of Performance of Focused Beamformer Using Water Pulley Model Array)

  • 본 논문은 수중환경에서 비교적 근거리에 위치해 있는 목표물에서 방사되는 광대역 음원신호를 취득하여 목표물의 위치를 탐지하기 위한 표적추정 (Focused) 빔 형성 기법을 제안한다. 표적추정 (Focused) 빔 형성기 기법은 배열 센서를 사용하여 구면파 형태로 입사되는 방사 신호들의 각 센서로의 상이한 전달 지연 시간 성분들을 고려하여 센서 출력 신호들을 일정 시간 구간 동안 코히어런트하게 합해 줌으로써 목표물의 위치를 판단하게 된다. 이때 견인함의 이동에 의해 배열 센서의 형태가 시간적으로 변화하게 되며, 가상의 셀들로 분리된 이미지 공간상에서 각 셀과 배열 센서간의 기하학적인 구조 분석에 의해 계산된 시간 지연 값들을 이용하여 표적추정(Focused) 빔 형성 과정을 거친 최종적인 3차원 빔 패턴 출력을 얻게 된다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 N차 다항식 (polynomial) 근사법을 이용한 실제 수차 모형 배열 형태 추정을 하였으며 생성된 가상의 수차 모형 배열을 이용하여 각각의 주파수 대역에 따른 광대역 목표물에 대한 추정 성능을 분석하여 보았다.

다중 배열 니들 코팅을 이용한 LED 스크린용 Anti-Moiré 필터 제작 (Fabrication of Anti-Moiré Filter Using Multi-Array Needle Coating for LED Screens)

  • Using a multi-array needle module developed for coating of high-density cylindrical microlens array (C-MLA), we have fabricated an anti-Moiré filter for LED screens. The Moiré phenomenon appears due to the interference between the array pattern of image sensors in a camera and the non-emission area (grid pattern) of a LED screen. To suppress it, we have employed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and coated it on a glass substrate in the form of a grid and non-grid (parallel lines). We have rotated the needle module in order to increase the number of C-MLAs. With this scheme, we have fabricated the 150 mm × 150 mm anti-Moiré filters where 836 microlens lines are formed. They show the average width of 255.4 ㎛, the average distance between CMLs of 94.6 ㎛, and C-MLA width non-uniformity of 4.7%. We have shown that the Moiré patterns still appear in the presence of the parallel (non-grid)-type filter, whereas they disappeared completely by the grid-type filter. It is due to the fact that the Moiré patterns are diffused more effectively by the grid-type C-MLA.

BaTiO3 압전나노입자와 폴리머로 제작된 비납계 압전복합체의 스트레쳐블 압전 센서 어레이로의 적용 연구 (Stretchable Sensor Array Based on Lead-Free Piezoelectric Composites Made of BaTiO3 Nanoparticles and Polymeric Matrix)

  • Piezoelectric energy harvesting has attracted increasing attention over the last decade as a means for generating sustainable and long-lasting energy from wasted mechanical energy. To develop self-powered wearable devices, piezoelectric materials should be flexible, stretchable, and bio-eco-friendly. This study proposed the fabrication of stretchable piezoelectric composites via dispersing perovskite-structured BaTiO3 nanoparticles inside an Ecoflex polymeric matrix. In particular, the stretchable piezoelectric sensor array was fabricated via a simple and cost-effective spin-coating process by exploiting the piezoelectric composite comprising of BaTiO3 nanoparticles, Ecoflex matrix, and stretchable Ag coated textile electrodes. The fabricated sensor generated an output voltage of ~4.3 V under repeated compressing deformations. Moreover, the piezoelectric sensor array exhibited robust mechanical stability during mechanical pushing of ~5,000 cycles. Finite element method with multiphysics COMSOL simulation program was employed to support the experimental output performance of the fabricated device. Finally, the stretchable piezoelectric sensor array can be used as a self-powered touch sensor that can effectively detect and distinguish mechanical stimuli, such as pressing by a human finger. The fabricated sensor demonstrated potential to be used in a stretchable, lead-free, and scalable piezoelectric sensor array.

  • We consider design factors for a SQUID sensor array to construct a 52-channel magnetocardiogram (MCG) system that can be used to measure tangential components of the cardiac magnetic fields. Nowadays, full-size multichannel MCG systems, which cover the whole signal area of a heart, are developed to improve the clinical analysis with high accuracy and to provide patients with comfort in the course of measurement. To design the full-size MCG system, we have to make a compromise between cost and performance. The cost is involved with the number of sensors, the number of the electronics, the size of a cooling dewar, the consumption of refrigerants for maintenance, and etc. The performance is the capability of covering the whole heart volume at once and of localizing current sources with a small error. In this study, we design the cost-effective arrangement of sensors for MCG by considering an adequate sensor interval and the confidence region of a tolerable localization error, which covers the heart. In order to fit the detector array on the cylindrical dewar economically, we removed the detectors that were located at the corners of the array square. Through simulations using the confidence region method, we verified that our design of the detector array was good enough to obtain whole information from the heart at a time. A result of the simulation also suggested that tangential-component MCG measurement could localize deeper current dipoles than normal-component MCG measurement with the same confidence volume; therefore, we conclude that measurement of the tangential component is more suitable to an MCG system than measurement of the normal component.

음향학적 역문제를 위한 마이크로폰의 정렬방법 (Designing a Microphone Array for Acoustical Inverse Problems)

  • An important inverse problem in the field of acoustics is that of reconstructing the strengths of a number of sources given a model of transmission paths from the sources to a number of sensors at which measurements are made. In dealing with this kind of the acoustical inverse problem, strengths of the discretised source distribution can be simply deduced from the measured pressure field data and the inversion of corresponding matrix of frequency response functions. However, deducing :he solution of such problems is not straightforward due to the practical difficulty caused by their inherent ill-conditioned behaviour. Therefore, in order to overcome this difficulty associated with the ill-conditioning, the problem is replaced by a nearby well-conditioned problem whose solution approximates the required solution. In this paper a microphone array are identified for which the inverse problem is optimally conditioned, which can be robust to contaminating errors. This involves sampling both source and field in a manner which results in the discrete pressures and source strengths constituting a discrete Fourier transform pair.

배전설비 결함 검출을 위한 초음파 음원 위치추정 및 시각화 기법 (Ultrasonic Source Localization and Visualization Technique for Fault Detection of a Power Distribution Equipment)

  • This paper describes the implemenation of localization and visualization scheme to find out an ultrasonic source caused by defects of a power distribution line equipment. To increase the fault detection performance, $2{\times}4$ sensor array is configured with MEMS ultrasonic sensors, and from the sensor signals aquired, the azimuth and elevation angles of the ultrasonic source is estimated based on the delay-sum beam forming method. Also, to visualize the estimated location, it is marked on the background image. Experimental results show applicability of the present technique.

  • In this paper, a CMOS integrated detection circuit for capacitive type fingerprint sensor signal processing is described. We designed a detection circuit of charge-sharing sensing scheme. The proposed detection circuit increases the voltage difference between a ridge and valley. The test chip is composed of $160{\times}192$ array sensing cells (12 by $12.7{\;}mm^{2}$). The chip was fabricated on a 0.35 m standard CMOS process. Measured difference voltage between a ridge and valley was 0.95 V.
