  • A dielectric superstrate layer above a microstrip patch antenna has remarkable effects on its gain and resonant characteristics. This paper experimentally investigates the effect of a superstrate layer for high gain on microstrip patch antennas. We measured the gain of antennas with and without a superstrate and found that the gain of a single patch with a superstrate was enhanced by about 4 dBi over the one without a superstrate at 12 GHz. The impedance bandwidths of a single patch with and without a superstrate for VSWR < 2 were above 11%. The designed $2{\times}8$ array antenna using a superstrate had a high gain of over 22.5 dB and a wide impedance bandwidth of over 17%.

  • This paper proposes a method for improving the isolation characteristic of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antennas using a split ring resonator (SRR) array structure between the two radiating elements. The fabricated antenna satisfies the 10 dB return loss requirement in the Mobile-WiMAX frequency band from 3.4 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The isolation between the two radiating elements is improved by approximately 20 dB at the center frequency by inserting a SRR array structure. The measured peak gains of the two elements are 2.3 dBi and 2.4 dBi, respectively.

  • Many of the modern radar antennas operated in the X-band frequencies are made of the slotted waveguides. Varying the distances between the slots and the skew angles of the each slot, we can synthesize a very sharp fan-beam as well as maintaining low standing wave ratio. This paper deals with the design data of the above antennas. We made a slotted array antenna with the data and measured the antenna parameters. And these were compared with the calculated values.

  • Generating electromagnetic waves with Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) properties is a fast-growing research subject in both radio and optics. This paper describes the generation of OAM carrying waves using a circular array of rectangular planar monopole antennas. The proposed design combines simplicity, compactness, and most importantly very wideband of operating frequencies (about 20-160 GHz, bandwidth ratio about 1:8) which makes it suitable for future applications.

  • In this paper, series-fed mirostrip array anteenas with coupling-slots are prposed and their operating characteristics are analyzed based on analyzed based on analytical and experimental results. An accurate analysis method for the slot-coupled feed structure is based on using both circuit coupling between anteenas and full-wave analysis which use travling wave mode and non-traveling wave mode on feed line. The basis functions that used for the numerical analysis bas been determined depending upon the accuracy, convergence properties of the solution, and the computation time:The patch uses 3 EB mode, the slot uses 1PWS mode, and feeders use 5 PWS mode. Series-fed array antennas have been designed, built, and tested in a standing-wave configuration. Using the results of the full-wave analysis, the chebyshev array antennas consisting of 8 elements are designed and fabricated changing the amount excited to each array element by adjusting slot length and by the slot position relative to the feeder. Experiment results show that the series-fed array antenna designed by adjusting the slot position relative to the feeder is superior to that designed by slot length.

  • Recently the interferometric synthetic aperture radiometer with sub-Y-type antenna array was suggested to improve the spatial resolution than that of conventional Y-type with the same number of antenna elements. The sub-Y-type performance has been reported under a point source target. In this paper, the performance of sub-Y-type is evaluated under contiguous objects. The angular resolution of sub-Y-type with 52 antennas was compared with that of Y-type with the 40 antennas. The images of sub-Y -type and Y-type array were simulated under the contiguous objects. The sub-Y-type showed higher resolution than Y-type in the simulation and experiments. The sub-Y-type has high spatial resolution than Y-type in case of contiguous source as well as single point source.

  • This paper describes a design for linear polarization antenna using the EMCD (electromagnetically coupled dipole). The analysis and the design of model antennas are conducted by FDTD method. Vertical and horizontal linear polarizations are easily obtained by variation of dipole position. In 1-element antenna design, mutual coupling between microstrip feed line and radiator is considered. Design parameters of each 1-element antenna with vertical and horizontal polarization are used for array design. Radiation power and main beam tilting angle can be controlled by the offset and the distance between radiating elements in an array, respectively. 5-element array antennas are fabricated and measured to prove the design validity. The results of FDTD simulation and measurement show the reasonable agreement.

  • This paper proposes the antenna selection scheme and power control algorithms of multiple nodes beamforming when the vehicles equipped with circular array antennas is moving and construct mobile mesh networks. The proposed antenna selection scheme chooses beamforming antenna elements considering antenna radiation gain and allows duplicated antenna selection for multiple adjacent nodes. The proposed power control algorithms maximize SIR for the duplicated antenna selection. The simulation demonstrates that the proposed antenna selection and power control achieve 2.5dB higher SIR gain than that of conventional methods when two nodes are apart from $15^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, we have studied a direction finding method of the radio signal by comparing the phase difference and its pattern from the uniform circular array antenna. In the phase comparison direction finding, if the length of the antenna baseline is longer than 0.5 wavelength of the incident signal, azimuth ambiguity occurs in which two or more azimuth angles are calculated in the same phase difference. The azimuthal ambiguity is removed by fusing the phase difference of the 5 antennas. The developed ambiguity elimination technology reduces the azimuth error where the antenna baseline is shorter than 1.236 wavelength in the uniform circular array with five antennas. This algorithm is very useful for the design of direction finder of an electronic information system.

  • In this paper, low noise amplifier(LNA), aperture coupled patch antenna and $4{\times}4$ array antenna are designed in the frequency range from 11.7㎓ to 12㎓. Array antennas with and without LNA at the antenna element are fabricated and the performances are measured including noise figure(NF). The noise figure calculation for overall system was conducted and compared with the measured data to verify our measurement method. The measured overall noise figure of the array antenna with LNA at the antenna element is lower than that of array without LNA as expected.
