  • From the early 1980s, the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) has been developed as a one of the standard tunneling method in Korea. Approximately 10 years ago, wet-mix shotcrete with sodium silicate accelerator (waterglass) was introduced and widely used to tunnel lining and underground support. However, this accelerator had some disadvantages due to the decrease of long-term strength compared to plain concrete (without accelerator) and low quality of the hardened shotcrete. In order to compensate for these disadvantages, recently developed alkali-free accelerator has been successfully demonstrated in numerous projects and applications as a new material to make tunnels more durable and safer. An experimental investigation was carried out in order to verify the strength behavior of wet-mix Steel Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete (SFRS) with alkali-free accelerator. Compressive strength, flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength were measured by testing specimens extracted from the shotcrete panels. From the results, wet-mix SFRS with alkali-free accelerator exhibited excellent strength improvement compared to the conventional shotcrete accelerator.

실차 적용을 통한 각속도센서 특성 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Angular Rate Sensor using Real Vehicle)

  • A surface micro machined angular rate sensor utilizing a vibrating MEMS structure on a silicon has been developed. These tuning fork angular rate sensors are extremely rugged, inherently balanced, and easy to fabricate. The device is fabricated using a temperature compensation method based on automatic gain control technique. A linearity of approximately 0.6%, limited by the on-chip electronics has been obtained with this new sensor. Tests of the sensor demonstrate that its performance is equivalent to that required for implementation of a yaw control system. Vehicle handling and safety are substantially improved using the sensor to implement yaw control.

For a discussion of the term as used currently, in the 1968 revision of psychiatric nomenclature(DSM-II). In DSM-I(1952 nomenclature), this term referred to those cases in which the personality, in its struggle for adjustment to internal and external stresses, utilized primarily a pattern of action or behavior rather than symptoms in the mental, somatic or emotional spheres. There is minimal subjective anxiety and little or no sense of distress. As thus defined, there are three main groups of personality disorder, personality pattern disturbance, personality trait disturbance and sociopathic, personality disturbance. Morton Prince asks whether a subconscious process can perform the same function as are ordinarily performed by conscious intelligence that is to say memory, perception, reasoning, imagination, volition, affectivity, etc? He cites clinical material at great length, concluding that the quality of the functions performed they frequently exhibit, that which is characteristic of intelligence.

Improved Digital Redesign for Fuzzy Systems: Compensated Bilinear Transform Approach

  • This paper presents a new intelligent digital redesign (IDR) method via the compensated bilinear transformation to design the digital controller such that the digital fuzzy system is equivalent to the analog fuzzy system in the sense of the state-matching. This paper especially consider a multirate control scheme with a predictive feature, where the digital control input is held constant N times between the sampling points. More precisely, the multirate control scheme is proposed that utilizes a numerical integration scheme to approximately predict the current state from the state measured at the sampling points, the delayed measurements. For this system, the IDR conditions incorporated with stabilizability in the format of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are derived. The superiority of the proposed technique is convincingly visualized through a numerical example.

The Activation of PPAR-α and Wnt/β-catenin by Luffa cylindrica Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extract

  • Luffa cylindrica (LC) is a very fast-growing climber and its fruit have been considered as agricultural wastes. We conducted to check the comparative qualities of ethanol solvent extraction (LCE) and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (LCS) of L. cylindrica fruit and seed. LCS had higher antioxidant and polyphenol contents than LCE. LCS were significantly increased peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-a and involucrin expression as epidermal differentiation marker in 3D skin equivalent model. LCS also showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, a causative bacteria in atopic dermatitis. In addition, LCS inhibited the adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells. When treated with the extract at a concentration of 100 ㎍/mL, the Wnt/β-catenin pathway reporter luciferase activity of HEK 293-TOP cells was increased approximately by 2-folds compared to that of the untreated control group. These results indicate that L. cylindrica supercritical carbon dioxide extract may serve as a cosmeceutical for improving skin barrier function and the treatment of obesity.

  • A remote control strategy for vehicles in Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS) is considered. An optimal scheduling of a limited communication channel is proposed for lead vehicle control in a platoon. The optimal scheduling problem is to find the optimal communication sequence that minimizes the cost obtained inherently by an optimal control without the communication constraint. In this paper, the PID control law which guarantees the string stability is used for the lead vehicle control. The fact that the PID control law is equivalent to the approximately linear quadratic tracker allows to obtain the performance measure to find an optimal sequence. Simulations are conducted with five maneuvering platoons to evaluate the optimality of the obtained sequence.

  • This paper considers asset liability management problems when their deterministic equivalent formulations are general nonlinear optimization problems. The presented approach uses a nonmonotone trust region strategy for solving a sequence of unconstrained subproblems parameterized by a scalar parameter. The objective function of each unconstrained subproblem is an augmented penalty-barrier function that involves both primal and dual variables. Each subproblem is solved approximately. The algorithm does not restrict a monotonic decrease of the objective function value at each iteration. If a trial step is not accepted, the algorithm performs a non monotone line search to find a new acceptable point instead of resolving the subproblem. We prove that the algorithm globally converges to a point satisfying the second-order necessary optimality conditions.

40 mm 중구경 화포용 천공형 소음기 설계 (A Muffler with Ventilation Holes for a 40 mm Medium Caliber Gun)

  • A 40 mm medium caliber gun to be equipped with ventilation holes is designed and manufactured in this study. The muffler used is composed of holes, blades, and several spaces in the tube. Accordingly, a numerical analysis is performed with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) before testing the muffler. The validity of the numerical analysis is examined by analyzing the differences between the measured data of the firing test and the results of the CFD analysis. The CFD analysis showed that the numerical analysis can be used positively in the muffler design because no difference exists between the results of the field test and the CFD analysis. The test result also indicated a noise reduction of approximately 10 dB. Moreover, the muzzle velocity is almost equivalent, regardless of the muffler.

Study for the Safety of Ships' Nonlinear Rolling Motion in Beam Seas

  • Vessels stability problems need to resolve the nonlinear mathematical models of rolling motion. For nonlinear systems subjected to random excitations, there are very few special cases can obtain the exact solutions. In this paper, the specific differential equations of rolling motion for intact ship considering the restoring and damping moment have researched firstly. Then the partial stochastic linearization method is applied to study the response statistics of nonlinear ship rolling motion in beam seas. The ship rolling nonlinear stochastic differential equation is then solved approximately by keeping the equivalent damping coefficient as a parameter and nonlinear response of the ship is determined in the frequency domain by a linear analysis method finally.

콘테이너선의 수평-비틂연성진동 해석 (Analysis of Coupled Horizontal-Torsional Vibrations of Container Ships)

  • A container ship, due to wide hatch openings, has characteristics of poor torsional rigidity, strong coupling of horizontal-torsional modes and significant discontinuity in the longitudinal variation of hull sections. In the mathematical formulation of the problem the hull is modeled as a beam and the transfer matrix method is utilized. The cross decks between cargo hatch opening are separated from the main hull and regarded as equivalent springs restraining torsion of hull. The effect of shear deformation of ship-side plating on torsion is taken into account in addition to St. Venant's and bending torsional rigidities. Compatibility requirements at cross section discontinuity are approximately considered. Developing the practical calculation procedure and the computer programs for application to an actual ship, some parametric studies on modeling methods of the cross deck, the compatibility condition, added-mass center etc. are out for the purpose of comparison.
