Applicability of Blockchain based Bill of Lading under the Rotterdam Rules and UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records

  • Purpose - This paper investigates applicability of blockchain based bill of lading under the current legal environment. Legal requirements of electronic bill of lading will be analyzed based on the Rotterdam Rules and recently enacted UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records. Using comparative analysis with the previous registry model for electronic bill of lading, this paper examines the advantages of blockchain based bill of lading. Design/methodology - This research reviewed previous efforts for dematerializing bill of lading with its limitation. Main features of blockchain technology which can make up for deficiencies of registry model also be investigated to analyze whether these features can satisfy the requirements for the legal validity of the negotiable electronic transport record or electronic transferable records under the Rotterdam Rules and the MLETR. Findings - Main findings of this research can be summarized as follows: Blockchain system operated in an open platform can improve transparency and scalability in transfer of electronic bill of lading by assuring easy access for transaction. Distributed ledger technology of blockchain makes it more difficult to forge or tamper with transactions because all participants equally shares identical transaction records. Consensus mechanism and timestamp in a blockchain transaction guarantee the integrity and uniqueness of a transaction. These features are enough to satisfy the requirements of electronic transferable records under the Rotterdam Rules and MLTER. Originality/value - This study has significance in that it provided implications for the introduction of electronic bill of lading by analyzing whether the blockchain based electronic bill of lading model meets the legal requirements under the current legal system prepared prior to the introduction of blockchain technology, and by presenting the advantages of the blockchain based bill of lading model through comparative analysis with the existing registry model.

  • Until now, the 40% of wall thickness criterion, which is generally used for the plugging of steam generator tubes, has been applied only to a single cracked geometry. In the previous study by the authors, a total number of 9 local failure prediction models were introduced to estimate the coalescence load of two collinear through-wall cracks and, then, the reaction force model and plastic zone contact model were selected as the optimum ones. The objective of this study is to estimate the coalescence load of two collinear through-wall cracks in steam generator tube by using the optimum local failure prediction models. In order to investigate the applicability of the optimum local failure prediction models, a series of plastic collapse tests and corresponding finite element analyses for two collinear through-wall cracks in steam generator tube were carried out. Thereby, the applicability of the optimum local failure prediction models was verified and, finally, a coalescence evaluation diagram which can be used to determine whether the adjacent cracks detected by NDE coalesce or not has been developed.

탄-점성 압밀이론을 이용한 점성토 지반의 장기압밀 특성 및 적용성 (Long-term Consolidation Characteristics and Applicability of Soft Clayey Ground Using Elasto-Viscous Consolidation Theory)

  • When the industrial complex creation and the structures are constructed on the soft clayey ground, the long-term consolidation settlement greatly becomes a problem. In the present study, long-term consolidation tests to examine the change in the coefficient of secondary consolidation by the influence of the initial consolidation load and the influence of the consolidation load increment ratio($\Delta_p/_{p_0}$) in the normally consolidated state with an improved standard oedometer tester were examined. In addition, the finite difference method was executed by using one dimensional Elasto-Viscous model proposed by Yoshikuni et. al. From the result of the numerical analysis of the comparison laboratory tests, the applicability of the Elasto-Viscous model was verified from the agreement of the secondary consolidation process.

Radiation detector deadtime and pile up: A review of the status of science

  • Since the early forties, researchers from around the world have been studying the phenomenon of deadtime in radiation detectors. Many have attempted to develop models to represent this phenomenon. Two highly idealized models; paralyzable and non-paralyzable are commonly used by most individuals involved in radiation measurements. Most put little thought about the operating conditions and applicability of these ideal models for their experimental conditions. So far, there is no general agreement on the applicability of any given model for a specific detector under specific operating conditions, let alone a universal model for all detectors and all operating conditions. Further the related problem of pile-up is often confused with the deadtime phenomenon. Much work, is needed to devise a generalized and practical solution to these related problems. Many methods have been developed to measure and compensate for the detector deadtime count loss, and many researchers have addressed deadtime and pulse pile-up. The goal of this article is to summarize the state of science of deadtime; measurement and compensation techniques as proposed by some of the most significant work on these topics and to review the deadtime correction models applicable to present day radiation detection systems.

철도 노반재로서의 수경성 입도 조정 고로슬래그(HMS-25)의 적용성 평가 (Evaluation of Applicability of HMS-25 as the Railroad Roadbed Material)

  • 본 연구에서는 선철의 제조과정에서 부산물로 발생되는 수경성 입도조정 고로 슬래그(이하HMS-25라 함)의 철도 노반재로서의 적용성 및 성능평가 검토를 하였다. 실험은 기본물성 측정을 위한실내시험, 일축압축강도시험 및 정ㆍ동적 특성분석을 위한 모형토조실험 및 공진주/비틂 전단시험을 실시하였다. HMS-25의 일축압축강도시험 결과, 수경성에 의한 강도 증진 효과를 확인하였다. 토조시헌에서는 HMS-25를 이용하여 조성한 노반이 흙노반에 비해 지지력 및 침하량측면에서 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 공진주/비틂전단시험에서는 전단탄성계수는 구속압의 0.5 제곱으로 증가하였으며, 재령에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보였다.

키토산비드를 이용한 양이온/음이온의 흡착모델 적용 (Applicability of adsorption kinetic model for cation/anion for chitosan hydrogel bead)

  • Batch adsorption tests were performed to evaluate the applicability of adsorption kinetic model by using hydrogel chitosan bead crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (HCB-G) for Cu(II) as cation and/or phosphate as anion. Pseudo first and second order model were applied to determine the sorption kinetic property and intraparticle and Boyd equation were used to predict the diffusion of Cu(II) and phosphate at pore and boundary-layer, respectively. According to the value of theoretical and experimental uptake of Cu(II) and phosphate, pseudo second order is more suitable. On comparison with the value of adsorption rate constant (k), phosphate kinetic was 2-4 times faster than that of Cu(II) at any experimental condition indicating the electrostatic interaction between ${NH_3}^+$ and phosphate is dominated at the presence of single component. However, when Cu(II) and phosphate simultaneously exist, the value of k for phosphate was sharply decreased and then the difference was not significant. Both diffusion models confirmed that the sorption rate was controlled by film mass transfer at the beginning time (t < 3 hr) and pore diffusion at next time section (t > 6 hr).

  • This paper prescribe the effects of SVC & TCSC in multi-machine power system. EMTP models of two FACTS controllers are proposed to analysis the basic characteristics of SVC & TCSC and the control signal of TCR is determined by rms value which was measured in system. The oscillation model of generator is proposed to analysis the damping effect and the most effective location of TCSC in multi-machine power system is identified by the residues associated with the natural oscillation modes. The 3 generator-9 bus model system is used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model.

  • A one-dimensional flood routing model was formulated to simulate the flood flow of drainage sub-canal using the continuity equation of paddy field and the momentum and continuity equation of drainage sub-canal. The model was applied for evaluating the hydraulic characteristics of drainage sub-canal at large-sized paddy fields. The model applicability was evaluated with field data and the simulated results were in good agreement with the observed data.

  • The shear strength and strain of reinforced concrete beams are predicted by using the Transformated-Angle Truss-Model. This proposed analytical method simplified the fixed-angle softened-truss model (FA-STM) and removed the limitation of applicability of the FA-STM. The results of the proposed method for reinforced concrete beams were compared to those of the FA-STM.

  • Korean government has been preparing the introduction of Emission Trading as part of the framework convention on Climate Change as a relief of negative downstream effect over electricity industry. This paper develops a mathematical model amenable to analyzing the economic impact of introduced emission trading system on the national generation expansion planning. The developed model was also employed with a case study to verify its applicability.
