  • A new organic reagent, 1-isonicotynyl-2-furfurylidene hydrazine synthesized from isonicotinic acid hydrazid and furfural, gives yellow liquid with cadmium (II). Cadmium complex of the reagent is soluble in water with yellow coloration. The complex has a maximum absorption at 363 m${\mu}$ and molar ratio of cadmium to reagent was estimated as 1:1 by continuous variation method and slope method. Molecular extinction coefficient and apparent formation constant of this complex was spectrophotometrically determined. • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of various types of calcium sources on calcium metabolism. Sprague-Dawley male rate weighing approximately 82g were divided into 6 groups and fed experimental diets containing about 0.2% calcium for 4 weeks. Perilla leaves, dried sea mustard, mulberry leaves, loach, skim milk powder, and CaCO3 were used as calcium sources for this study. Food intake of experimental groups showed no significant difference from that of control group, but food efficiency ratio were higher in group fed loach as a calcium source. Apparent calcium absorption from perilla leaves, and skim milk powder groups as good as that in CaCO group. Femur length showed no significant difference among exjerimental groups with different calcium sources. The breaking force of bone was higher in loach and dried sea mustard groups. Weight, ash weight, and calcium content of the femur were higher in the loach diet group than in the others. Thus, calcium from not only skim milk powder but also perilla leaves, dried sea mustard, mulberry leaves, and loach appears readily available and all of these can be recommended as calcium sources.

  • The relation between the paper formation analyzer by image process system and smoothness, compressibility uniform of ink absorption is studied. There results indicate that the paper with bad formation has higher apparent bulk than the paper with good formation. The bad formation of paper results in the nonuniform calendering and decrease of the compressibility. The bad formation of paper also results in deformation and omission of printing dots, which affects the reproduction of the printing images.

  • In order to offer some fundamental data for recycling the excavated rocks, the component and mechanical characteristics was investigated for the excavated rocks, by means of X-ray diffraction analysis, strength test, slacking test and abrasion test were performed. It appeared that the unconfined compressive strength and the elastic wave velocity were the highest in the sound rock. The dissipation rate by stability tests was found to be high in the case of the slacking index of 98% because of more bedding and more clay minerals. The apparent specific gravity of some crushed aggregate was decreased because they included easily weathered minerals while both the absorption and the abrasion were increased. The results in this study were expected to be useful for recycling the excavated rocks as a concrete aggregate.

  • The usefulness of the domestic shale contained chiastolite as additive were investigated. Crude mixed minerals were separated into shale and chiastolite. Refractory body added simple component or multiple components as additives was obtained when firing at 125$0^{\circ}C$ for each body. Compressive strength, refractories, apparent sp. gr., water absorption, corrosion test by slag, hot linear expansion were measured and X-ray diffraction analysis was observed. As the result of study, refractory body contained separated minerals as additives showed slightly increasing in refractoriness, lowering in sintering effect, the excellent effect for corrosion resistance by acidic slag. With more containing separated minerals, hot linear expansion for the body can be decreased.

  • The purpose of this paper is to obtain the data for manufacturing of microbe carriers as a method of FRP waste recycling technology. Since FRP waste is polymer, the experiment of the thermogravity analyzing was carried out to find thermal behavior. After that, microbe carriers were prepared from waste FRP powder, which had been decomposed, milled, and mixed with clay as a binder and CaCO3 as a flux and a loaming agent, respectively. finally it was made by filing of the sample up to 1,05$0^{\circ}C$. It was investigated how the variation of the additives and firing temperature effect apparent density, water absorption and micro structure.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of iron and selenium intakes on utilization of manganese in rats fed adequate, 2-fold, 4-fold iron and adequate, high selenium for 6 weeks. There was no difference feed intake across iron and selenium containing diet groups. Body weight gain in 2-fold iron and high selenium group(MFeHSe) was significantly higher than those in other groups. Serum iron level was increased with iron increment, and liver iron content was decreased with selenium supplementation. Selenium and manganese contents in tissues were decreased with iron increment. In the case of manganese balance, manganese excretion through feces was significantly increased as iron intake was increased. However, retention and apparent absorption of manganese were not significantly affected by dietary iron. From these results, it could be suggested that the supplementations of iron and selenium affected the manganese utilization. Therefore, it must be considered interaction with various minerals in micro-nutrient supplementations.

  • Since a ductile coupled shear wall system is the primary seismic load resisting systems of many structures, a coupling beams of these system must exhibit excellent ductility and energy absorption capacity. In this paper, the seismic response of coupled shear wall system is discussed. It includes that the evaluation of the degree of coupling between the shear walls and the coupling beams. It is demonstrated through a review of experimental investigations of coupling beam behavior that often the coupling beam ductility demand exceeds the expected available ductility. As a result, it is possible that coupled shear wall system will not behave as desired in the course of a significant seismic event. Limits to the allowable degree of coupling are proposed as a remedy to this apparent deficiency.

  • A simple, rapid, reproducible and selective UV-Visible spectrophotometric method has been developed for determination of germanium in a week acid medium (pH = 3.0) in the presence of mandelic acid (MA) and malachite green (MG). A single extraction in chlorobenzene was used for the analysis. The germanium-MA ion association complex exhibits an absorption maximum at ${\lambda}_{max}=618nm$ with MG as counter ion and has an apparent molar absorptivtity of $1.313{\times}10^5L\;mol^{-1}\;cm^{-1}$. The values obtained by this UV-Visible spectrophotometric method are in good agreement with the values from inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer analysis.

  • The spectrophotometric determination method of scandium with eriochrome cyanine R (ECR) and the composition ratio of the complex were investigated in the presence of surfactants. A volume of 5 mL of 1.0×$10^{-3}$ M ECR and 10 mL of 2.0×$10^{-4}$ M CTMAB are necessary for the determination of 1.0×$10 ^{-7}$ ~ 3.0×$10^{-6}$ M Sc(III) at pH 6.5. The apparent molar absorption coefficient of the Sc(III)-ECR-CTMAB, ternary complex at 610 nm is 5.6×$10^5$ $mol^{-1}cm{-1}$L and its detection limit is 1.0×$10^{-7}$ M. Separation studies were conducted by the column method. The effect of pH, elution solution and the influence of rare earth elements as interferents was discussed. Their separation was carried out in 0.1 M HCl-50% methanol solution and 1.0 M HCl media. The method was applied for the determination of Sc(III) in monazite.
