In this paper, we present the basic design results for high-resolution radar development at S-band frequency that can precisely measure the miss distance between two targets. The basic system requirement is proposed for the design of a 3.5 GHz linear frequency-modulated (LFM) radar with maximum detection distance and distance resolution of 2 km and 1 m, respectively, and the specifications of each module are determined using the radar equation. Our calculations revealed a signal-to-noise ratio ${\geq}30dB$ with a bandwidth of 150 MHz, transmission power of 43 dBm for the power amplifier, gain of 26 dBi for the antenna, noise figure of 8 dB, and radar cross-section of $1m^2$ at a target distance of 2 km from the radar. Based on the calculation results and the theory and method of LFM radar design, the hardware was designed using software defined radar technology. The results of the subsequent field test are presented that prove that the designed radar system satisfies the requirements.

This paper is a study of 6~18 GHz wideband high power amplifier which is composed of 10 single amplifier and coaxial type spatial power combiner. The property of this spatial power combiner is on a similar principle to antipodal antenna radiation mechanism. Therefore, the key structure of proposed spatial power combiner is the antipodal finline PCB board and the finline curve shape is numerically synthesized by using Klopfensein's optimum impedance taper. The measured CW output power of spatial combined high power amplifier is nearly 50 W. In conclusion we prove the good combining performance between the spatial power combiner and 10 single amplifier over 6~18 GHz frequency ranges. Also, we developed the key component PA and MFC MMIC which controls the phase and gain of the each amplifier, The main characteristic of MFC MMIC is to maximize combining efficiency of power amplifier.

Resolution 221 requests the ITU-R to conduct studies, as a matter of urgency, on the feasibility of utilizing HAPS system as a base station to provide IMT-2000 services. And HAPS base stations should not cause harmful interference to the cellular IMT-2000 services. To study on the interference between HAPS system and cellular system is divided into two cases. One is the interference into HAPS system from the cellular system and the other is the interference into the cellular system from HAPS system. Since the former case has been already studied[1]. this paper describes the interference the interference to the noise power ration(I/N) with various parameters, such as the transmitting power, the number of users per cell, maximum antenna gain and the multibeam cell radius of HAPS. With the proposed estimation, we can determine the optimum values of various parameters in HAPS IMT-2000 system.

We make an interference analysis to obtain a critical ctiteria for coexisting availability of WLAN and WiBro between adjacent channels can be used in TVWS(TV White Space). To meet this analysis, we set the various transmission parameters including the emission and blocking mask, antenna height and gain, transmission power and bandwidth, channel model etc. And, based on these parameters, we analyze on performances according to a variation of guard band, a number of service user and allowable transmit power of the user operating in the adjacent channels. In this paper, we consider a urban environment and apply a Extended Hata-SRD for WLAN and an interference link and Extended Hata model for WiBro, respectively. With these results, we can see how each system can be shared in an adjacent channel.
With increased human activity in space, the risk of re-entry and collision between space objects is constantly increasing. Hence, the need for space situational awareness (SSA) programs has been acknowledged by many experienced space agencies. Optical and radar sensors, which enable the surveillance and tracking of space objects, are the most important technical components of SSA systems. In particular, combinations of radar systems and optical sensor networks play an outstanding role in SSA programs. At present, Korea operates the optical wide field patrol network (OWL-Net), the only optical system for tracking space objects. However, due to their dependence on weather conditions and observation time, it is not reasonable to use optical systems alone for SSA initiatives, as they have limited operational availability. Therefore, the strategies for developing radar systems should be considered for an efficient SSA system using currently available technology. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of a radar system in detecting and tracking space objects. With the radar system investigated, the minimum sensitivity is defined as detection of a $1-m^2$ radar cross section (RCS) at an altitude of 2,000 km, with operating frequencies in the L, S, C, X or Ku-band. The results of power budget analysis showed that the maximum detection range of 2,000 km, which includes the low earth orbit (LEO) environment, can be achieved with a transmission power of 900 kW, transmit and receive antenna gains of 40 dB and 43 dB, respectively, a pulse width of 2 ms, and a signal processing gain of 13.3 dB, at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. We defined the key parameters of the radar following a performance analysis of the system. This research can thus provide guidelines for the conceptual design of radar systems for national SSA initiatives.

In this paper, a 60 GHz LTCC SiP with low-power CMOS OOK modulator and demodulator is presented. The 60 GHz modulator is designed in a 90-nm CMOS process. The modulator uses a current reuse technique and only consumes 14.4-mW of DC power in the on-state. The measured data rate is up to 2 Gb/s. The 60 GHz OOK demodulator is designed in a 130nm CMOS process. The demodulator consists of a gain boosting detector and a baseband amplifier, and it recovers up to 5 Gb/s while consuming low DC power of 14.7 mW. The fabricated 60 GHz modulator and demodulator are fully integrated in an LTCC SiP with 1 by 2 patch antenna. With the LTCC SiP, 648 Mb/s wireless video transmission was successfully demonstrated at wireless distance of 20-cm.

The design and fabrication of X-band(11.7~12 GHz) 2-stage monolithic microwave integrated circuit(MMIC) low noise amplifier (LNA) for active antenna are presented using $0.15{\mu}m\times140{\mu}m$ AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (P-HEMT). In each stage of the LNA, a series feedback by using a source inductor is used for both input matching and good stability. The measurement results are achieved as an input return loss under -17 dB, an output return loss under -15dB, a noise figure of 1.3dB, and a gain of 17 dB at X-band. This results almost concur with a design results except noise figure(NF). The chip size of the MMIC LNA is $1.43\times1.27$.

A Ku-band low noise amplifier has been designed and fabricated by using 0.25 um SiGe BiCMOS process. The developed Ku-band LNA RFIC which has been designed with hetero-junction bipolar transistor(HBT) in the BiCMOS process have noise figure about 2.0 dB and linear gain over 19 dB in the frequency range from 9 GHz to 14 GHz. Optimization technique for p-tap value and electro-magnetic(EM) simulation technique had been used to overcome the inaccuracy in the PDK provided from the foundry service company and to supply the insufficient inductor library. The finally fabricated low noise amplifier of two fabrication runs has been implemented with the size of $0.65\;mm{\times}0.55\;mm$. The pure amplifier circuit layout with the reduced size of $0.4\;mm{\times}0.4\;mm$ without the input and output RF pads and DC bais pads has been incorporated as low noise amplication stages in the multi-function RFIC for the active phased array antenna of Ku-band satellite VSAT.

Since a conventional multi-cell transmit diversity scheme depends on the feedback from the user for the channel gain information, its performance gets to severely degrade when the channel varies fast due to the high mobility of the user. Also, transmit power of the base station cannot be fully used in the conventional scheme because only one transmit antenna is used for data transmission. In this paper, we propose a multi-cell transmit diversity scheme appropriate for fast fading channel. In the proposed scheme, channel-independent precoding vector is applied over all transmit antennas and different precoding vectors are applied for neighboring subcarriers so that the received signal is avoided to experience deep fading over multiple neighboring subcarriers. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better detector output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and bit error rate (BER) performances than the conventional scheme.

In this paper, we present an asymptotical analysis of channel capacity of Bell labs layered space-time (BLAST) architectures based on a zero-forcing (ZF) criterion in the sense of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We begin by introducing a new relationship related to multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channel capacity. We prove that Diagonal Bell Labs Space-Time (DBLAST) attains the lower bound for MIMO channels when interference nulling is carried out based on the ZF-criterion. An exact closed-form expression for the probability density function of the channel capacity is analyzed. Based on the asymptotic behavior of the channel capacity of each layer, closed-form expressions for the asymptotic ergodic capacity are derived for BLAST. Based on the analysis presented in this paper, we gain an insight on the channel capacity behavior for a MIMO channel. Computer simulation results have verified the validity and accuracy of the proposed analysis for a wide range of antenna array sizes.
