A modified model combining Kriging and Monte Carlo method (MC) is proposed for probabilistic estimation of tunnel face stability in this paper. In the model, a novel uniform design is adopted to train the Kriging, instead of the existing active learning function. It has advantage of avoiding addition of new training points iteratively, and greatly saves the computational time in model training. The kinematic approach of limit analysis is employed to define the deterministic computational model of face failure, in which the Hoek-Brown failure criterion is introduced to account for the nonlinear behaviors of rock mass. The trained Kriging is used as a surrogate model to perform MC with dramatic reduction of calls to actual limit state function. The parameters in Hoek-Brown failure criterion are considered as random variables in the analysis. The failure probability is estimated by direct MC to test the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed probabilistic model. The influences of uncertainty level, correlation relationship and distribution type of random variables are further discussed using the proposed approach. In summary, the probabilistic model is an accurate and economical alternative to perform probabilistic stability analysis of tunnel face excavated in spatially random Hoek- Brown media.
In this paper, we propose a novel knowledge distillation algorithm to create an compressed deep ensemble network coupled with the combined use of local and global features of face images. In order to transfer the capability of high-level recognition performances of the ensemble deep networks to a single deep network, the probability for class prediction, which is the softmax output of the ensemble network, is used as soft target for training a single deep network. By applying the knowledge distillation algorithm, the local feature informations obtained by training the deep ensemble network using facial subregions of the face image as input are transmitted to a single deep network to create a so-called compressed ensemble DCNN. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed compressed ensemble deep network can maintain the recognition performance of the complex ensemble deep networks and is superior to the recognition performance of a single deep network. In addition, our proposed method can significantly reduce the storage(memory) space and execution time, compared to the conventional ensemble deep networks developed for face recognition.

In this paper, 3D face recognition system is designed by using polynomial based on RBFNNs. In case of 2D face recognition, the recognition performance reduced by the external environmental factors such as illumination and facial pose. In order to compensate for these shortcomings of 2D face recognition, 3D face recognition. In the preprocessing part, according to the change of each position angle the obtained 3D face image shapes are changed into front image shapes through pose compensation. the depth data of face image shape by using Multiple Point Signature is extracted. Overall face depth information is obtained by using two or more reference points. The direct use of the extracted data an high-dimensional data leads to the deterioration of learning speed as well as recognition performance. We exploit principle component analysis(PCA) algorithm to conduct the dimension reduction of high-dimensional data. Parameter optimization is carried out with the aid of PSO for effective training and recognition. The proposed pattern classifier is experimented with and evaluated by using dataset obtained in IC & CI Lab.
This paper proposes an enhanced skin color-based detection method to find a region of human face in color images. The proposed detection method combines three color spaces, RGB, $YC_bC_r$, YIQ and builds color union histograms of luminance and chrominance components respectively. Combined color union histograms are then fed in to the back-propagation neural network for training and Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm is applied to the iteration process of training. Proposed method with Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm applied to training process of neural network contributes to solve a local minimum problem of back-propagation neural network, one of common methods of training for face detection, and lead to make lower a detection error rate. Further, proposed color-based detection method using combined color union histograms which give emphasis to chrominance components divided from luminance components inputs more confident values at the neural network and shows higher detection accuracy in comparison to the histogram of single color space. The experiments show that these approaches perform a good capability for face region detection, and these are robust to illumination conditions.
In this paper, we propose a semi-supervised domain adaptation solution to deal with practical face recognition (FR) scenarios where a single face image for each target identity (to be recognized) is only available in the training phase. Main goal of the proposed method is to reduce the discrepancy between the target and the source domain face images, which ultimately improves FR performances. The proposed method is based on the Domain Adatation network (DAN) using an MMD loss function to reduce the discrepancy between domains. In order to train more effectively, we develop a novel loss function learning strategy in which MMD loss and cross-entropy loss functions are adopted by using different weights according to the progress of each epoch during the learning. The proposed weight adoptation focuses on the training of the source domain in the initial learning phase to learn facial feature information such as eyes, nose, and mouth. After the initial learning is completed, the resulting feature information is used to training a deep network using the target domain images. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, FR performances were evaluated with pretrained model trained only with CASIA-webface (source images) and fine-tuned model trained only with FERET's gallery (target images) under the same FR scenarios. The experimental results showed that the proposed semi-supervised domain adaptation can be improved by 24.78% compared to the pre-trained model and 28.42% compared to the fine-tuned model. In addition, the proposed method outperformed other state-of-the-arts domain adaptation approaches by 9.41%.
The purpose of this study is to find out the progress of social welfare field practice at students, universities, and training institutions in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province during the With COVID-19 era, and to suggest effective social welfare field practice operation plans. To this end, a survey was conducted on 181 people who completed social welfare field practice courses, and the final research results are as follows. First, the operation situation of practice institutions in the era of With COVID-19 was the highest when they were conducted together with 'face-to-face, non-face-to-face', and student satisfaction was positive when partial non-face-to-face practice education was conducted. Despite repeated shutdowns due to COVID-19, the degree of participation in face-to-face services was more than 9 times and the number of supervision was more than 6 times, and many responded that the quality of supervision, a social welfare field training institution, was "generally high." Second, as a result of examining the level of practice performance, trainees, and training institutions, there was a significant relationship between training institution factors and practice performance, and third, as a result of examining how the university, trainees, training institution factors, and practice performance. Therefore, in order to derive the results of social welfare field practice in the era of With Corona, programs to promote and strengthen non-face-to-face exchanges at the university level are necessary, and an education system that also provides non-face-to-face practice guidance suitable for the With Corona era. In addition, various support for the practice system of government ministries and related institutions, including universities and practice institutions, is needed.

Detection and recognition of human faces in images can be considered as an important aspect for applications that involve interaction between human and computer. In this paper, we propose a face recognition method using eigenfaces and fuzzy neural networks. The Principal Components Analysis (PCA) is one of the most successful technique that have been used to recognize faces in images. In this technique the eigenvectors (eigenfaces) and eigenvalues of an image is extracted from a covariance matrix which is constructed form image database. Face recognition is Performed by projecting an unknown image into the subspace spanned by the eigenfaces and by comparing its position in the face space with the positions of known indivisuals. Based on this technique, we propose a new algorithm for face recognition consisting of 5 steps including preprocessing, eigenfaces generation, design of fuzzy membership function, training of neural network, and recognition. First, each face image in the face database is preprocessed and eigenfaces are created. Fuzzy membership degrees are assigned to 135 eigenface weights, and these membership degrees are then inputted to a neural network to be trained. After training, the output value of the neural network is intupreted as the degree of face closeness to each face in the training database.

This paper proposes a new spatial regularization of Fisher linear discriminant analysis (LDA) to reduce the overfitting due to small size sample (SSS) problem in face recognition. Many regularized LDAs have been proposed to alleviate the overfitting by regularizing an estimate of the within-class scatter matrix. Spatial regularization methods have been suggested that make the discriminant vectors spatially smooth, leading to mitigation of the overfitting. As a generalized version of the spatially regularized LDA, the proposed regularized LDA utilizes the non-uniformity of spatial correlation structures in face images in adding a spatial smoothness constraint into an LDA framework. The region-dependent spatial regularization is advantageous for capturing the non-flat spatial correlation structure within face image as well as obtaining a spatially smooth projection of LDA. Experimental results on public face databases such as ORL and CMU PIE show that the proposed regularized LDA performs well especially when the number of training images per individual is quite small, compared with other regularized LDAs.

Face recognition has wide applications in security and surveillance systems as well as in robot vision and machine interfaces. Conventional challenges in face recognition include pose, illumination, and expression, and face recognition at a distance involves additional challenges because long-distance images are often degraded due to poor focusing and motion blurring. This study investigates the effectiveness of applying photon-counting linear discriminant analysis (Pc-LDA) to face recognition in harsh environments. A related technique, Fisher linear discriminant analysis, has been found to be optimal, but it often suffers from the singularity problem because the number of available training images is generally much smaller than the number of pixels. Pc-LDA, on the other hand, realizes the Fisher criterion in high-dimensional space without any dimensionality reduction. Therefore, it provides more invariant solutions to image recognition under distortion and degradation. Two decision rules are employed: one is based on Euclidean distance; the other, on normalized correlation. In the experiments, the asymptotic equivalence of the photon-counting method to the Fisher method is verified with simulated data. Degraded facial images are employed to demonstrate the robustness of the photon-counting classifier in harsh environments. Four types of blurring point spread functions are applied to the test images in order to simulate long-distance acquisition. The results are compared with those of conventional Eigen face and Fisher face methods. The results indicate that Pc-LDA is better than conventional facial recognition techniques.

Representation based classification, kernel method and sparse representation have received much attention in the field of face recognition. In this paper, we proposed an improved kernel principal component analysis method based on sparse representation to improve the accuracy and robustness for face recognition. First, the distances between the test sample and all training samples in kernel space are estimated based on collaborative representation. Second, S training samples with the smallest distances are selected, and Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA) is used to extract the features that are exploited for classification. The proposed method implements the sparse representation under ℓ2 regularization and performs feature extraction twice to improve the robustness. Also, we investigate the relationship between the accuracy and the sparseness coefficient, the relationship between the accuracy and the dimensionality respectively. The comparative experiments are conducted on the ORL, the GT and the UMIST face database. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more effective and robust than several state-of-the-art methods including Sparse Representation based Classification (SRC), Collaborative Representation based Classification (CRC), KCRC and Two Phase Test samples Sparse Representation (TPTSR).
