  • This paper examines nursing professionals' English abstract to learn their preferences towards tense and voice choices. A total of 24 abstracts, completed reviews to be published by the editorial board members of the Korea Industrial Nursing Association, were analyzed for the study. Each sentence in the four parts of the abstract (Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusion) was examined and classified into active/passive voices, and present/past/present perfect tenses. Verbs were then further identified to see which ones were commonly preferred to state the objectives of the study, methods, and to draw conclusions. Hedging expressions in Conclusion were also examined. The results of the present study revealed that Purpose was mostly (79%) stated in the past tense with slight use (17%) of the present tense in the form of 58% active and 42% passive voice whereas Methods were dominantly (96%) illustrated in the past tense with preference of mixed active and passive voice. The Results were also preferably (92%) stated in past tense and Conclusion in both present and past tense. Verbs used by these nursing professionals seemed diverse; however, hedging appeared to be narrowly limited to a few expressions including suggest and should. More diverse English hedging expressions need to be taught at least college level writing so that the EFL learners and writers can have a better understanding of presenting statements in an appropriate level of caution, confidence, or uncertainty.

  • This paper aims to explain the direction of a long-range policy for the development of fisheries industry and fishing villages in Korea after the Conclusion of the Uruguay Round Negotiations. When the Uruguay Round Negotiations were concluded last year, the government soon set up the Committee of Farming and Fishing Village Development under the direct control of the President and launched on the development of agriculture and fisheries policy to provide for the post-Uruguay Round. The Committee drew up an all-round policy report, "The Problem and Direction of Agriculture Policy Reform" as a result of the six-month activity of this committee from February through July, 1994 in which the author participated, and presented it to the President. The author rearranged the problems of a long-range policy related to fisheries industry and fishing villages apart from this report, and drew up another report under the title, "Fisheries Policy in Korea after the Conclusion of the Uruguay Round Negotiations : Its Problem and Direction," which was reported at the year 1994 autumn symposium of the Korean Pedagogic Society of Fisheries and Marine Sciences.

  • This paper presents a method for propagating fuzzy concepts through fuzzy IF-THEN-ELSE rules. A fuzzy IF-THEN-ELSE rule consists of a set of fuzzy condition and conclusion pairs. These pairs assumed to contain informations about a fuzzy mapping from fuzzy concepts of condition parts to the fuzzy concepts of conclusion parts. Conventionally, vectors are used to define fuzzy concepts and matrices are used to define a fuzzy mapping between fuzzy conditions and conclusions. This approach, however, does not satisfy the existing condition property, i.e., when a fuzzy input data exactly matches to a fuzzy condition, fuzzy output data should be mapped to a corresponding fuzzy conclusion. Alternatively, we propose a parameterized approach in which every fuzzy concept is described by a parameterized standard function, including fuzzy conditions and fuzzy conclusions. A fuzzy IF-THEN-ELSE rule takes the parameterized fuzzy concept as an input, and produces a standard function with new parameters as an output. New parameters are determined by a parameterwise interpolation. That is, each output parameters are determined by interpolating parameters of the same class contained in fuzzy conclusions. Obviously, the proposed scheme always satisfies the existing condition property.

  • Representing knowledge uncertainty , aggregating evidence confidences , and propagation uncertainties are three key elements that effect the ability of a rule-based expert system to represent domains with uncertainty . Fuzzy set theory provide a good mathematical tool for representing the vagueness associated with a variable when , as the condition of a rule , it only partially corresponds to the input data. However, the aggregation of ANDed and Ored confidences is not as simple as the intersection and union operators defined for fuzzy set membership. There is, in fact, a certain degree of compensation that occurs when an expert aggregates confidences associated with compound evidence . Further, expert often consider individual evidences to be varying importance , or weight , in their support for a conclusion. This paper presents a flexible approach for evaluating evidence and conclusion confidences. Evidences may be represented as fuzzy or nonfuzzy variables with as associat d degree of certainty . different weight can also be associated degree of certainty. Different weights can also be assigned to the individual condition in determining the confidence of compound evidence . Conclusion confidence is calculated using a modified approach combining the evidence confidence and a rule strength. The techniques developed offer a flexible framework for representing knowledge and propagating uncertainties. This framework has the potention to reflect human aggregation of uncertain information more accurately than simple minimum and maximum operator do.

  • Objective The purpose of this study was to understand the conclusion of 「Gwangjeseol」 in 『Dongeuisusebowon』 in a more accurate sense. Method We examined the basic viewpoint of Lee je-ma in 「Seongmyeonglon」 in 『Dongeuisusebowon』. Based on the interpretation of the 「Seongmyeonglon」, the viewpoints described in the pathology theory of 『Dongeuisusebowon』 were examined. In addition to 『Dongeuisusebowon』, we looked for contents related to "TuHyeonJilNeung" and "HoHyeonNagSeon" in Lee je-ma's book 『Gyukchigo』 and 『Dongmuyugo』. Result We have found that the meanings of the words "TuHyeonJilNeung" and "HoHyeonNagSeon" in the last article of 「Gwangjeseol」 are not limited to just the 「Gwangjeseol」, but contain the meaning of a topic that runs through the entire book. According to the 『Gyukchigo』 and 『Dongmuyugo』, the meaning of "TuHyeonJilNeung" is related to the "Sa-Bang-Il-Yog", and the "Sa-Bang-Il-Yog" is the "ilsimjiyog" that prevents the practice of "Ji-Haeng". This concept is the same as the concept of "Ji-Haeng" in 「Seongmyeonglon」, the first unit of 『Dongeuisusebowon』. Conclusion It is considered that Lee je-ma wanted to emphasize the reason and mindset to do "Ji-Haeng" by writing the end of the 「Gwangjeseol」, which is the last part of 『Dongeuisusebowon』.

  • Objective & Method : By investigating physiological function of tri-energizer, symptoms, and organ coordination, we obtained following conclusion. Tri-energizer is the membrane structure that surrounds the five visceral organs and six hollow organs, and filled with fluid. Tri-energizer acts as the passage for the flow of qi energy. Result & Conclusion : Therefore, dysfunction of the tri-energizer is caused by abnormal evaporation and metabolism. Upper-energizer regulates cardiopulmonary function, middle-energizer regulates spleen and stomach functions, and lower-energizer regulates liver, kidneys, small and large intestines, and bladder functions. Such a functional specialization is possible by receiving the source of qi through the wall wrapping around the internal organs. Tri-energizer represents the exterior and interior relationship by acting as the membrane structure supporting the five visceral organs and six hollow organs and at the same time, as the pericardium surrounding the heart.

  • Factors and causal structures of pre-service elementary teachers about the critical thinking and the scientific literacy competency were investigated in this study. The third grade university students and the first grade university students in the metropolitan city participated in this study. The factor analysis method and the structural equation modeling method were used for the data analysis, and the following results were obtained. First, the third grade university students and the first grade university students recognized 'inquisitive thinking' factor and 'reflective thinking' factor as factors of the critical thinking, and 'scientific explanation' factor and 'evidence-based conclusion' factor as factors of the scientific literacy competency respectively. Second, the third grade university students showed more the influence from 'reflective thinking' factor to 'scientific explanation' factor and from 'reflective thinking' factor to 'evidence-based conclusion' factor than the first grade university students.
