To develop an active material for skin darkening, we examined the effect of 300 plants on tyrosinase activity and found only Caesalpinia sappan has an ability to increase tyrosinase activity highly and melanin contents in B-16 melanoma cells. A compound increasing tyrosinase activity and melanin production was isolated from Caesalpinia sappan Lignum. Brazilin was identified as a new active agent. Brazilin increases the tyrosinase activity and malanin production of B-16 melanoma cells. In conclusion, it seems that brazilin cal be used as a new sunless tanning agent.

In this paper, a robust Sliding Mode Variable Structure (SMVS) controller is designed for Active Queue Management (AQM). This type of controller is insensitive to noise and variance of the parameters, thus it is suitable to time varying network systems. Simulation results conform the robust performance of SMVS controller against the disturbance. At the same time, a complete comparison between SMVS and PI controllers is made. The conclusion is that both transient and steady state performance of SMVS controller is better than that of PI one.

This paper deals with our proposed fuzzy inference method, in which the fuzzy relation is represented by the membership functions of the antecedent and consequent parts, it is not used any fuzzy composition. The strong point of this method is that the membership function of an inferred conclusion has a simple shape and thus its meaning can be interpreted easily. Firstly, the proposed method is explained, and then it is applied to fuzzy modeling of distributed data.

The objective of this study was to develop a polymer mortar defensive block with high strength and durability using unsaturated polyester resin to complement defects of conventional cement mortar defensive block. Physical and mechanical properties of the polymer mortar defensive block were also investigated. Low absorptivity, high impact strength, and great bending strength of the polymer mortar defensive block was compared with those of the conventional cement defensive block. In conclusion, the polymer mortar defensive block is excellent and useful as industrial products for erosion control works.

This study attempts to provide policy makers and other interested parties with policy implications throughout an economic analysis of software sector. Chapter 2 is designed to provide an overview of market characteristics in the software sector. Chapter 3 reviews an overview of the evolution stage of the software industry and the effects these trends have on firm strategies. Chapter 4 reviews the relationships between software economic characteristics and intellectual property rights. Some suggestions are offered in the conclusion, with special attention given to an examination of market characteristics, firm strategies, government policies, and some economic factors.

This article describes a robust control method by using peak control of a sensitivity function in the state-feedback control systems. This method apparently reduces the peak, and as a result makes closed loop systems more stable. The designed closed loop systems also make the response to an external step disturbance more fast with a lower undershoot. At the conclusion, it is verified that the proposed method enhances robust stability and robust performance to parametric uncertainties through $\mu$-plot.

Objectives: To inform the clinical features of drug-induced liver injury (DILI), and study traditional Korean medicine (TKM)-based strategies or therapeutics. Methods: A female patient with hepatitis after long term use of medication for cold symptoms was treated with Oriental therapies, after which the clinical outcome was evaluated by serum biochemical parameters and ultrasonography. Results: Clinical and biochemical levels were fluctuating during administration of cold medicine, but the patient completely recovered her health with herbal medicines. Conclusion: This case report would provide information about a typical DILI by western medicine followed by treatment with traditional Korean medicine.

A sodium chloride crystallizer shows oscillatory and nonlinear characteristics under its nucleating and growing process. Because these characteristics vary with operational condition, we can't control the product crystal size exactly with a PID controller or a sequence controller. Then, we make a model with threefold neural networks for the laboratory equipment that is a jet mixing crystallizer. We try to control the product crystal size with its neuro-model, and we reach the conclusion that our neuro-model is applicable to the practical crystallizer.

Experiments were conducted with rabbits to study the possibility that blood flow of submaxillary glands may play a role in salivary secretion. Varoious dosage of propranolol and isoproterenol were given via the jugular vein and tha investigation of blood flow in submaxillary glands were performed by means of rheographic method. Conclusion were that propranolol was affected scarecely and isoproterenol were affecred dramatically of blood flow in sibmaxillary gland.

The stock return is changed by factors of inside and outside or is changed by factor of market system. But most studies have not considered the changes of stock return distribution when estimate the VaR. Such study may lead us to wrong conclusion. In this paper we calculate the VaR of price-to-earnings ratios by the distribution that have considered the change point and used transformation to satisfy normal distribution.
