An accurate analytical equation for the total energy in the framework of the single domain model is used to study the thermal stability of nanostructured synthetic ferrimagnets. Elliptical cells are considered that have lateral dimensions of 160 nm (long axis)$\times$80 nm (short axis) and varying values of thickness asymmetry for the two magnetic layers. The direction of the applied magnetic field, which points to the $45^{\circ}$ direction, is in the opposite direction to the thicker layer magnetization. A significant difference is observed in the applied magnetic field dependencies of the equilibrium magnetic configuration and the magnetic energy barrier when using the simplifying assumption that the self-demagnetizing field is identical in magnitude to the dipole field. At a small thickness asymmetry of 0.2 nm, for example, the magnetic energy barrier is reduced from 68 kT (T=300 K) to 6 kT at the remanent state and a progressive switching behavior changes into a critical behavior, as the simplifying assumption is used. The present results clearly demonstrate the need for an accurate analytical equation for the total energy in predicting the thermal stability of nanostructured synthetic ferrimagnets.
To establish the sea surface temperature estimation scheme for the upcoming advanced remote sensor, the quasi-analytical solution of the approximated radiative transfer equation which express the radiative transfer process of the radiant energy radiated from the sea surface to the satellite is approximated into the non-linear equation. To solve the simultaneous approximated radiative transfer equation which express the radiative transfer process of the radiant energy radiated from the sea surface to the satellite is approximated into the nonlinear equation. To solve the simultaneous approximated radiative transfer equation at each channel, the constrained non-linear optimization technique is adopted. To define the coefficients of the approximated radiative transfer equation and the constraints, the satellite detected radiance and the total transmittance are computed from the 1350 kinds of simulated atmosphere / surface models via radiative transfer code. The verification from the simulated data show the sufficient result.
This paper presents the theoretical developments of an exact finite strip for the buckling and initial post-buckling analyses of isotropic flat plates. The so-called exact finite strip is assumed to be simply supported out-of-plane at the loaded ends. The strip is developed based on the concept that it is effectively a plate. The present method, which is designated by the name Full-analytical Finite Strip Method in this paper, provides an efficient and extremely accurate buckling solution. In the development process, the Von-Karman's equilibrium equation is solved exactly to obtain the buckling loads and the corresponding form of out-of-plane buckling deflection modes. The investigation of thin flat plate buckling behavior is then extended to an initial post-buckling study with the assumption that the deflected form immediately after the buckling is the same as that obtained for the buckling. It is noted that in the present method, only one of the calculated out-of-plane buckling deflection modes, corresponding to the lowest buckling load, i.e., the first mode is used for the initial post-buckling study. Thus, the postbuckling study is effectively a single-term analysis, which is attempted by utilizing the so-called semi-energy method. In this method, the Von-Karman's compatibility equation governing the behavior of isotropic flat plates is used together with a consideration of the total strain energy of the plate. Through the solution of the compatibility equation, the in-plane displacement functions which are themselves related to the Airy stress function are developed in terms of the unknown coefficient in the assumed out-of-plane deflection function. These in-plane and out-of-plane deflected functions are then substituted in the total strain energy expressions and the theorem of minimum total potential energy is applied to solve for the unknown coefficient. The developed method is subsequently applied to analyze the initial postbuckling behavior of some representative thin flat plates for which the results are also obtained through the application of a semi-analytical finite strip method. Through the comparison of the results and the appropriate discussion, the knowledge of the level of capability of the developed method is significantly promoted.
A numerical algorithm is developed to analyze the performance of a Unit-injector (UI) System for a diesel engine. The fundamental theory of the algorithm is based on the continuity equation of fluid dynamics. The loss factors that should be seriously regarded on the continuity equation are the compressibility effect of liquid fuel, the wall friction loss in high-pressure fuel lines of the system, the kinetic energy loss of fuel in the system, and the leakage of fuel out of the control volume. For an evaluation of the developed simulation algorithm, the calculation results are compared with the experimental outputs provided by the Technical Research Center of Doowon Precision Industry Co. (DPICO) ; the maximum pressure in the plunger chamber (P$\_$p/) and total amount of fuel injected into a cylinder per cycle (Q$\_$f/) at each operational condition. The result shows that the average error rate (%) of P$\_$p/ and Q$\_$f/ are 2.90% and 4.87%, respectively, in the specified operational conditions. Hence, it can be concluded that the analytical simulation algorithm developed in this study can be reasonably applied to the performance prediction of newly designed UI system.
The objective of this paper is to develop two numerical model for predicting the wave height with set-up/down near the surfzone on a arbitrary beach profile. Two wave models, regular wave model and random wave model, are based on the energy flux equation with the energy dissipation effects. The developed numerical models are verified by comparison of numerical results with analytical solutions that are derived under the simple conditions. The characteristics of parameters included in each model are then investigated and decided to the range of behaviour by the sensitivity analysis. For sensitivity analysis, we carried out total 46 laboratory tests. Finally, the developed numerical models are applied to the field where the wave height near the surfzone has been measured. From the applications of numerical models, it is concluded that the developed numerical models may accurately predict the wave height with the set-up/down near the surfzone on a arbitrary beach profile.

A finite element formulation to predict the flexural behavior of composite girder is presented in which the early-age properties of concrete are specified including maturing of elastic modulus, creep and shrinkage. The time dependent constitutive relation accounting for the early-age concrete properties is derived in an incremental format by expanding the total form of stress-strain relation by the first order Taylor series with respect to the reference time. The total potential energy of the flexural composite member is minimized to derive the time dependent finite element equilibrium equation. Numerical applications are made for the 3-span double composite steel box girders which is a composite bridge girder filled with concrete at the bottom of the steel box in the negative moment region. The numerical analysis with considering the variation of concrete elastic modulus are performed to investigate the effect of it on the early-age behavior of composite structures. The one dimensional finite element analysis results are compared with the analytical method based on the sectional analysis. Close agreement is observed among the two methods.
In this paper the analysis of laminate composite folded plates with arbitrary angle connection like box girder is studied by finite strip method Total stiffness of laminated plate is obtained by integration of the stiffness in each layer or lamina through laminate thickness and total stiffness in each layer or lamina through laminate thickness and total tiffness matrix is obtained by substitutionto equilibrium equation derived from the minimum total potential energy theorem. The assumed displacement functions for a finite strip method in plate or box girder analysis are combinations of one-way polynomial functions in the transverse direction and harmonic functions in the span-wise direction. Finite strip method with the merits of the simplification in modeling and the reduction of analytical time is accurate in the analysis of laminate composite folded plates shaped like box firders.
Effects of viscoelastic foundation on vibration of curved-beam structure with clamped and simply-supported boundary conditions is investigated in this study. In doing so, a micro-scale laminate composite beam with two piezoelectric face layer with a carbon nanotube reinforces composite core is considered. The whole beam structure is laid on a viscoelastic substrate which normally occurred in actual conditions. Due to small scale of the structure non-classical elasticity theory provided more accurate results. Therefore, nonlocal strain gradient theory is employed here to capture both nano-scale effects on carbon nanotubes and microscale effects because of overall scale of the structure. Equivalent homogenous properties of the composite core is obtained using Halpin-Tsai equation. The equations of motion is derived considering energy terms of the beam and variational principle in minimizing total energy. The boundary condition is assumed to be clamped at one end and simply supported at the other end. Due to nonlinear terms in the equations of motion, semi-analytical method of general differential quadrature method is engaged to solve the equations. In addition, due to complexity in developing and solving equations of motion of arches, an artificial neural network is design and implemented to capture effects of different parameters on the inplane vibration of sandwich arches. At the end, effects of several parameters including nonlocal and gradient parameters, geometrical aspect ratios and substrate constants of the structure on the natural frequency and amplitude is derived. It is observed that increasing nonlocal and gradient parameters have contradictory effects of the amplitude and frequency of vibration of the laminate beam.
A recent progress on the prediction of the thermal stability of a nanostructured exchange-coupled trilayer is reviewed. An analytical/numerical combined method is used to calculate its magnetic energy barrier and hence the thermal stability parameter. An important feature of the method is the use of an analytical equation for the total energy that contains the magnetostatic fields. Under an assumption of the single domain state, the effective values of all the magnetostatic fields can be obtained by averaging their nonuniform values over the entire magnetic volume. In an equilibrium state, however, it is not easy to calculate the magnetostatic fields at the saddle point due to the absence of suitable methods of the accessing its magnetic configuration. This difficulty is overcome with the use of equations that link the magnetostatic fields at the saddle point and critical fields. Since the critical fields can readily be obtained by micromagnetic simulation, the present method should provide accurate results for the thermal stability of a nanostructured exchange-coupled trilayer.
This paper presents an implementation of selective harmonic elimination (SHE) modulation for a single-phase 13-level transistor-clamped H-bridge (TCHB) based cascaded multilevel inverter. To determine the optimum switching angle of the SHE equations, the Newton-Raphson method is used in solving the transcendental equation describing the fundamental and harmonic components. The proposed SHE scheme used the relationship between the angles and a sinusoidal reference waveform based on voltage-angle equal criteria. The proposed SHE scheme is evaluated through simulation and experimental results. The digital modulator based-SHE scheme using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is described and has been implemented on an Altera DE2 board. The proposed SHE is efficient in eliminating the $3^{rd}$, $5^{th}$, $7^{th}$, $9^{th}$ and $11^{th}$ order harmonics, which validates the analytical results. From the results, it can be seen that the adopted 13-level inverter produces a higher quality with a better harmonic profile and sinusoidal shape of the stepped output waveform.
