This Paper deals with the synthesis of absolutely stabilizing fixed order controllers for Lure-Postnikov systems. Lure-Postnikov systems are frequently encountered in mechanical engineering applications. Analytical tools for synthesizing stabilizing fixed structure controllers, such as the PID controllers examining the absolute stability of Lure-Postnikov systems, have recently been studied in the literature. However, tools for synthesizing controllers of arbitrary order have not been studied yet. We propose a systematic method for synthesizing absolutely stabilizing controllers of arbitrary order for the Lure-Postnikov systems. Our approach is based on recent results in the literature on approximation of the set of stabilizing controller parameters that render a family of real and complex polynomials Hurwitz. We provide an example of a robotic system to illustrate the procedure developed.
Standard makers in both private and public sectors have been increasingly mandating security standards upon organizations to protect organizational digital assets. A major issue in security standardization is that standards often cannot regulate all possible security efforts by the standard maker because some efforts are unverifiable by nature. This paper studies from an analytical perspective how a standard maker should design the standard using a verifiable security control in the presence of another related unverifiable one. We compare it with two benchmark standards; $na{\ddot{i}}ve$-standard which refers to the standard maker who ignores the existence of the unverifiable control, and complete-information standard which refers to the maker sets standards on both controls. Optimal standard and benchmark standard depend critically on how the two controls are configured. Under parallel configuration, the existence of the unverifiable control induces the policy maker to set a higher standard (the complete-information standard is optimal); under serial configuration, a lower standard is applied (neither benchmark works). Under best-shot configuration and if the verifiable control is more cost-efficient, the existence of the unverifiable control has no impact on the optimal standard (the $na{\ddot{i}}ve$ standard is optimal).
This study was carried out to describe and analyze experimental studies conducted in graduates nursing degree. Of 170 experimental studies conducted during the past three decades between 1962 and August 1991, 150 studies were available, including 124 master’s and 26 doctoral theses. This study examined their general characteristics and detailed research methods using percentiles. The results were as follows 1. Most of the studies adopted a quasi-experimental design. 2. The subjects of the studies were chosen by convenience sampling except for two studies whose subjects were drawn by randomization. Studies comparing experimental and control groups were in the highest proportion and the most frequent sample sizes of each group were 21 to 30 for both experimental and control groups. 3. As to measurement, physiological measures were most frequent followed by psychsociological measures and active report questionnaires. Each study, on average, adopted two kind of measurement tools. Studies in which the data collection period was of 1~2 months were in the highest pro-portion. 4. All doctoral theses and 67.0% of master’s theses examined specific research hypotheses. Of these studies, the results of 92.5% supported the hypotheses. 5. Parametric statistics were the major analytical methods. In particular, t-test was used most frequently followed by Chi square, F-test, and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. 6. Patients were the most frequent study subjects. Frequent nursing interventions were information and education followed by support, distraction, and nursing treatments. 7. With regards to the dependent variables, “feelings” such as anxiety, pain, and depression were most frequent. In addition “exchanging” such as restoring, metabolism, cardiopulmonary function, infection and vital signs were adopted as the dependent variables in 29.1% of the studies examined, while 12.3% of the studies selected “choosing” such as stress, health behavior, or role performance.

In this paper, a decision-feedback coherent code tracking loop is designed for WCDMA systems and its performance is analyzed in terms of jitter variance considering the effect of phase and symbol estimation errors for both AWGN and fading environments. An analytical closed-form formula for jitter variance is Int derived for AWGN environments as a function of a pulse-shaping filter, timing offset, signal-to-interference ratio, and loop bandwidth while involving the phase estimation error and bit error rate, and the upper bound of jitter variance is derived for fading environments. Finally a second-order coherent code tracking loop is designed with the DPCH frame format #13 of the WCDHA forward link selected as a target system, and its performance is evaluated by the closed-form formula and compared with the simulation results for both AWGN and Rayleigh fading environments.
The harshness of legionellosis differs from mild Pontiac fever to potentially fatal Legionnaire's disease. The increasing development of drug resistance against legionellosis has led to explore new novel drug targets. It has been found that phosphoglucosamine mutase, phosphomannomutase, and phosphoglyceromutase enzymes can be used as the most probable therapeutic drug targets through extensive data mining. Phosphoglucosamine mutase is involved in amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism. The purpose of this study was to predict the potential target of that specific drug. For this, the 3D structure of phosphoglucosamine mutase of Legionella pneumophila (strain Paris) was determined by means of homology modeling through Phyre2 and refined by ModRefiner. Then, the designed model was evaluated with a structure validation program, for instance, PROCHECK, ERRAT, Verify3D, and QMEAN, for further structural analysis. Secondary structural features were determined through self-optimized prediction method with alignment (SOPMA) and interacting networks by STRING. Consequently, we performed molecular docking studies. The analytical result of PROCHECK showed that 95.0% of the residues are in the most favored region, 4.50% are in the additional allowed region and 0.50% are in the generously allowed region of the Ramachandran plot. Verify3D graph value indicates a score of 0.71 and 89.791, 1.11 for ERRAT and QMEAN respectively. Arg419, Thr414, Ser412, and Thr9 were found to dock the substrate for the most favorable binding of S-mercaptocysteine. However, these findings from this current study will pave the way for further extensive investigation of this enzyme in wet lab experiments and in that way assist drug design against legionellosis.
Purpose - The purpose of this study was to review and analyze EAJBE (The East Asian Journal of Business Economics) of EABEA (The East Asia Business Economics Association) and all of their published articles of 2013 to 2017 and to revise and update the existing publication standards and practices in order to improve the overall quality and reputation of EAJBE. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper applied an analytical approach, a case study method, to analyze and examine the published articles and the publication standards and practices of EAJBE (East Asian Journal of Business Economics) from their first publication. Results - The EAJBE has been issuing academic journals four times a year since its foundation. Although it is a journal based in Korea, overseas scholars publish articles steadily compared to other academic journals and the EAJBE raises the level of globalization. The level of internationalization of association's management and editorial members is also high, making the overall academic journal more cosmopolitan. Conclusions - Although the EABEA (The East Asia Business Economics Association) is a newly formed, the association is actively managing the academic community and making two major goals for the development of the academic journal. First, this journal is actively attracting overseas scholars, and is raising the level of internationalization. As an integrated academic conference is held with overseas scholars, they actively exchange with overseas scholars by contributing and publishing their papers. Second, it is seeking to establish national and international ties by publishing the papers of Korean scholars as well as abroad and holding academic contests regularly.
Cellular Automata(CA) have been investigated and utilized as a theoretical framework and/or methodology for analyzing and simulating the properties and behaviors of many complex systems in various physical science and engineering field. Due to the conceptual elegance and effectiveness of implementing spatio-temporal dynamic models and the compatibility with raster GISs, recently a variety of modeling works using both CA and GIS have been published in GIS fields Most of spatial dynamic models introduced in previous research, however, were very limited and furthermore integrated CA-GIS system for practical modeling purpose are not developed yet. This study aims to develop an integrated CA-GIS system in which a CA simulator is used as an analytical engine for GIS providing a multipurpose spatial dynamic modeling functionalities. This integrated CA-GIS system is anticipated radically enhancing the current lacking dynamic modeling functionalities of GIS and being utilized as an powerful and effective tool for practical spatial dynamic modeling research.
The purpose of this study was to establish an analytical framework and quantitative methodologies to analyze 'the cognitive effects of web map use' and to empirically test it. This experimental design was established based on the literature about spatial cognition. Accuracy, reaction time, and confidence within each participant were compared to measure the cognitive effects of web map use for wayfinding. Geometric accuracy of the cognitive maps was estimated and calculated based on the bidimensional regression. The experimental results showed that characteristics of map users and repetition of map use rather than types of map representation did significantly affect accuracy and reaction time of spatial cognition by using web maps. And confidence appeared to be low when the participants referred to both 2D and 3D maps for wayfinding tasks on the web maps. Understanding spatial cognition of web map users, which was suggested in the study, will help cartographers make more effectively-communicated maps.
The paper presents shear lag parameters for beam-to-column connections in steel box piers. Previous researches have analyzed beam-to-column connections in steel piers using a shear lag parameter ${\eta}_o$ obtained from a simple beam model, which is not based on a reasonable design assumption. Instead, the current paper proposes a cantilever beam model and has proved the effectiveness through theoretical and experimental studies. The paper examines the inaccuracy of the previous researches by estimating the effective width, the width-span length ratio L/b, and the sectional area ratio S of a cantilever beam. Two different shear lag parameters are defined using the cantilever model and the results are compared each other. The first type of shear lag parameter ${\eta}_c$ of a cantilever beam is derived using additional moments from various stress distribution functions while the other shear lag parameter ${\eta}_{eff}$ of a cantilever beam is defined based on the concept of the effective width. An evaluation method for shear lag stresses has been investigated by comparing analytical stresses with test results. Through the study, it could be observed that the shear lag parameter ${\eta}_{eff}$ agrees with ${\eta}_c$ obtained from the $2^{nd}$ order stress distribution function. Also, it could be observed that the shear lag parameter ${\eta}_c$ using the $4^{th}$ order stress distribution function almost converges to the upper bound of test results.
In recent years, study of the static response of pavements to moving vehicle and aircraft loads has received significant attention because of its relevance to the design of pavements and airport runways. The static response of beams resting on an elastic foundation and subjected to moving loads was studied by several researchers in the past. However, most of these studies were limited to steady-state analytical solutions for infinitely long beams resting on Winkler-type elastic foundations. Although the modelling of subgrade as a continuum is more accurate, such an approach can hardly be incorporated in analysis due to its complexity. In contrast, the two-parameter foundation model provides a better way for simulating the underlying soil medium and is conceptually more appealing than the one-parameter (Winkler) foundation model. The finite element method is one of the most suitable mathematical tools for analysing rigid pavements under moving loads. This paper presents an improved solution algorithm based on the finite element method for the static analysis of rigid pavements under moving vehicular or aircraft loads. The concrete pavement is discretized by finite and infinite beam elements, with the latter for modelling the infinity boundary conditions. The underlying soil medium is modelled by the Pasternak model allowing the shear interaction to exist between the spring elements. This can be accomplished by connecting the spring elements to a layer of incompressible vertical elements that can deform in transverse shear only. The deformations and forces maintaining equilibrium in the shear layer are considered by assuming the shear layer to be isotropic. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of the position of moving loads on the response of pavement.
