  • The bottom-simulating reflector (BSR) is the most commonly observed seismic indicator of gas hydrate in the Ulleung Basin, East Sea. We processed ten representative seismic reflection profiles, selected from a large data set, for amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis of the BSR to estimate gas-hydrate concentrations. First, BSRs were divided into five groups based on their seismic amplitudes and associated sediment types: (1) very high-amplitude BSRs in turbidite/hemipelagic sediments, (2) high-amplitude BSRs in debris-flow deposits, (3) moderate-amplitude BSRs in turbidite/hemipelagic sediments, (4) very low-amplitude BSRs in debris-flow deposits, and (5) very low-amplitude BSRs in seismic chimneys. The AVO responses of the group 1 and 3 BSRs are characterized by a rapid decrease and a relatively slow decrease in magnitude with offset, respectively. The AVO response of the group 2 BSR is characterized by a relatively slow increase in magnitude with offset. The AVO responses of the groups 4 and 5 BSRs are characterized by a flat AVO with very small zero-offset amplitude. Theoretical AVO curves, based on the three-phase Biot theory, suggest that the group 1 and 3 BSRs may be related to high (> 40%) concentrations of gas hydrate whereas the group 2 BSRs may indicate low (< 20%) concentrations of gas hydrate. The AVO responses of the group 4 and 5 BSRs cannot be compared with the theoretical models because of their very small zero-offset amplitudes. The comparison of the AVO response of the BSR at the UBGH-04 well with theoretical models suggests about 10% gas-hydrate concentration above the gas-hydrate stability zone.

  • The purpose of this study was to increase the current understanding of the acoustic characteristics of voices with advancing age. The relationship between age-related changes in body physiology and certain acoustic characteristics of voice was studied in a sample of 80 men representing four chronological age groupings (20-29, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79) who were all of good physical condition. Each subject was asked to phonate the vowel /a/, /i/, and /u/ for as long as possible at comfortable frequency and intensity level and read the sentence. A promising voice analysis program (Multi-Dimensional Voice $Program^{TM}$) was used to measure the fundamental frequency ($f_0$), jitter, shimmer, $f_0$ variation, peak-amplitude variation, smoothed pitch perturbation quotient, smoothed amplitude perturbation quotient, soft phonation index, $f_0$-tremor intensity index, amplitude tremor intensity index, and noise-to-harmonics ratio from the samples.

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc.. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with somato type by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results were obtained three somato type. Also I made skirts in order to analyzed to the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The effect of somato type on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. Results for flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somato type. therefore gray-level histogram are correlated with changes out-line space-shape, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somato type. • This paper deals with an application of Teager Energy Operator (TEO) and Energy Separation Algorithm(ESA) to detect and determine various voltage waveform distortions like harmonics, inter-harmonics and frequency variation. Because the TEO and DESA algorithm was initially proposed for speech or communication analysis, its applications are limited to some types of waveform in the power quality analysis area. For example, an undistorted voltage signal is similar with a pure sinusoid. A voltage fluctuation is very similar with an amplitude-modulated signal, from the viewpoint of signal theory. And a continuous frequency variation is similar with a frequency-modulated signal, which is also known as a chirp signal. This paper is written to show that the TEO and DESA algorithm can be used for detecting occurrences of the representative waveform distortions and determining their instantaneous information of amplitude and frequency.

  • The amplitude variation with offset of seismic data can detect fluids in the sediment and resolve the petrophysical properties of hydrocarbons in the subsurface. We analyzed and described the amplitude variation in deep sea seismic data obtained from the Ulleung Basin, East Sea. By inspecting seismic CDP-offset and CDP-angle gathers which show a bright reflection event, we decided a target zone for amplitude variation analysis. From the seismic angle gather at the middle of Ulleung Basin, we recognized amplitude increase or decrease versus offset on the intercept-gradient curve. Using the product attribute and Poisson's ratio change attribute computed in terms of intercept with gradient, the top and the base of gas saturated sediments were described. The area of amplitude variation suggestive of the presence of gas saturated sediments is shown at the depth of 3 s traveltime. Anomalous features of seismic amplitude in the Ulleung Basin were classified by the crossplot of intercept and gradient. The background trend of crossplot between intercept and gradient shows an inverse proportional relation that is common for wet sediments. Anomalous amplitudes of Class III fall into the first and the third quadrants on crossplots. We inferred regional gas/water saturated area with the horizontal dimension of 150 m in the Ulleung Basin by cross-section with respect to cross-plot anomaly.

  • By using numerical analysis methods, through transmission type pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing is modeled and PEC signal responses due to varying material conductivity, permeability, thickness, lift-off and pulse width are investigated. Results show that the peak amplitude of PEC signal gets reduced and the time to reach the peak amplitude is increased as the material conductivity, permeability, and specimen thickness increase. Also, they indicate that the pulse width needs to be shorter when evaluating the material conductivity and the plate thickness using the peak amplitude, and when the pulse width is long, the peak time is found to be more useful. Other results related to lift-off variation are reported as well.

  • In this study, we have constructed the acoustic microscope using quadrature technique and analyzed the relative variation of image intensity and the quality of image by reconstructing the amplitude and phase image for surface defects with tiny hight variation. In this experiment, we have constructed the scanning acoustic microscope using the focused transducer with 3㎒ center frequency and the quadrature detector. And we have fabricated aluminum samples with round defects whose depth is different and reconstructed the amplitude and phase images for the samples. One sample has round defects with 2㎜ diameter and 100㎛ depth and the other has round defects with 4㎜ diameter and 5㎜ depth. In the result of line scanning for the sample with 100㎛ round defects, it has been shown that the variation rate of amplitude image intensity is 7% and the variation rate of phase image intensity is 89%. The phase image has better contrast than amplitude image for the sample. In contrast to this, the amplitude image has better contrast than phase image for the sample with 5㎜ depth's defects. Accordingly there is big difference between amplitude image and phase image for depth variation of defects whose boundary is 1 wavelength. Consequently the acoustic microscope using quadrature detector can be evaluated efficiently more than using envelope detector, for detecting defects which have height variation less than 1 wavelength. And also the phase image and the amplitude image can be used for detecting defects of tiny height variation with complimentary relation.

  • Measuring phonatory stability using MDVP(Multi-dimensional voice program, Kay Elemetrics Corp., NJ, USA) are becoming popular in many Korean clinics and laboratories, yet questions about standardization and reference values have remained. The purpose of present study was to examine the effects of frequency and intensity variation on the results of acoustic analysis related to phonatory stability. Twenty young adults(ten females and ten males) were asked to sustain vowel /a/ for more than 3 seconds under 9 different pitch and loudness conditions. Using MDVP, nine voice samples were analyzed, and jitter percent, fundamental frequency variation, shimmer percent, peak amplitude variation, noise to harmonic ratio, amplitude tremor intensity index, and degree of subharmonics were compared. The results showed that intensity changes can significantly affect various phonatory stability measures, and the lowest perturbation values can be obtained from slightly louder(10dB) phonatory condition than comfortable level phonation.

  • The signal processing algorithm for a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) using amplitude modulation/demodulation is addressed in this paper. Dark currents and external noises such as daylight and fluorescent lights are eliminated by using amplitude modulation/demodulation and a low pass filter. The proposed amplitude modulation/demodulation method for a PSD sensor is compared with pulse amplitude modulation method. The proposed amplitude modulation is proved to be more accurate and robust than PAM method by analysis and experiments. Multiple measurements using one PSD sensor by amplitude modulation/demodulation is also addressed. The Power variation of light source is compensated by normalization process using a divider.
