Numerical Prediction of Aviation Fuel Temperatures in Unmanned Air Vehicles

  • This paper performs numerical prediction of fuel temperature in the fuel tanks of unmanned air vehicles for both ground static non-operating and in flight transient conditions. The calculation is carried out using a modified Dufort-Frankel scheme. For this calculation, it is assumed that a non-operating vehicle on the ground is subjected to repeating daily cycles of ambient temperature with solar radiation and wind under 1%, with a 20% probability of hot day conditions. The energy conservation equation is used as the governing equation to calculate heat transfer between the fuel tank surface and the ambient environment. Results of the present analysis may be used as the estimated initial values of fuel temperatures in a vehicle's fuel tank for the purpose of analyzing transient fuel temperatures during various flight missions. This research also demonstrates that the fuel temperature of the front tank is higher than that of the rear tank, and that the difference between the two temperatures increases in the later phases of flight due to the consumption of fuel.

  • IGCC 가스터빈과 공기분리기와의 결합이 중요한데 공기분리기로 공급되는 공기를 가스터빈에서 추출하는 정도와 공기분리기에 남는 질소를 연소기로 공급하는 정도가 중요한 운전 파라미터이다. 이러한 파라미터들이 가스터빈의 성능과 운전성에 미치는 영향은 설계조건인 ISO 조건뿐만 아니라 다양한 외기조건에 대해서도 고려되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 여러 외기조건에서 터빈 블레이드 온도와 생산 가능한 출력의 한계를 만족하도록 하는 질소희석량과 터빈입구온도를 예측하였다. 공기 결합도는 0 으로 두었다. 해석결과 질소공급량이 많을수록 출력은 높아지고 블레이드 온도는 낮아졌다. 상온 근처의 특정 온도 이하의 외기 조건에서는 가스터빈이 낼 수 있는 최대 출력을 얻을 수 있으나 그 이상에서는 최대 출력을 생산하지 못함을 확인하였다.

  • As the interest on the air pollution is gradually risen up at home and abroad, their vehicle emission regulations have been reinforcing by steps. PM regulation was also reinforced 4times for the last 13years and has been applied to SI vehicles after EURO 5. Additionally, knowing that small particles of PM can easily penetrate deep into lungs PM number was added on the regulation from EURO5+ and is applied to CI vehicles. Also, PN regulation is going to be applied to SI vehicles. But, because the regulation is appled to only a general test mode of each countries that is performed at $25{\pm}5^{\circ}C$, it is unclear whether the regulation can work on the other ambient temperature conditions or not. In this paper, to know that exhaust emission characteristics at the special conditions CI vehicles(CRDi w, w/o DPF) were tested using 5-cycle mode, NEDC mode at 5-ambient temperatures (35, 25, 0, -7 and -15) and the exhaust emission test results were discussed. The results show that the vehicle with DPF emits much low PM(and PM number) on all of the test mode. However, NOx of the other mode was emitted higher than regulation mode. Also. NOx was sharply increased according to decreasing Ambient Temperature.

  • Under part load condition of spark-ignition engine, pumping loss had great effect on engine efficiency. To reduce pumping loss, the study designed spark-ignited engines to make direct spray of gasoline to combustion chamber. In spark-ignited direct-injection engines, ignition probability is important for successful combustion and flame propagation characteristics are also different from pre-mixed combustion. This study designed a visualization testing device to study ignition probability of spark-ignited direct-injection LPG fuel and combustion flame characteristics. This visualization device consists of combustion chamber, fuel supply system, air supply system, electronic control system and data acquisition system. Ambient pressure, ambient temperature and ambient air flow velocity are important parameters on ignition probability of LPG-air mixture and flame propagation characteristics, and the study also found that sprayed LPG fuel can be directly ignited by spark-plug under proper ambient conditions. To all successful cases of ignition, the study recorded flame propagation image in digital method through ICCD camera and its flame propagation characteristics were analyzed.

토양 건조 스트레스와 기온상승에 의한 고추의 생리반응 및 생산량 변화 (Influence of Drought and High Temperature on the Physiological Response and Yield in Hot Pepper)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of combination of air temperature and soil water content on the growth, physiological disorder rate, and yield of hot peppers. The study was carried out in a typical plastic house (open on one side and with ventilation fans on the other side), which was maintained with gradient air temperature (maximum difference in air temperature: $6^{\circ}C$). The deficit irrigation (DI) treatment commenced 65 days after transplanting. The height of plant and fresh and dry weights of the stem increased at high air temperature (ambient + $6^{\circ}C$, extreme high temperature; EHT). Furthermore, the leaf area decreased significantly with the DI treatment. There were no significant differences in the stem diameter, number of branches, and fresh and dry weights of the leaves among all the treatments. The net photosynthesis rate of the full irrigation (FI) treatment was higher than that of the DI treatment. The photosynthesis rate at ambient air temperature was $19.7{\mu}mol\;CO_2m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, the highest among all the treatments; however, the photosynthesis rate of the EHT treatment decreased by 60% ($12.3{\mu}mol\;CO_2m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$). Additionally, the formation of guard cells in the leaf was abnormal with the EHT treatment, and there was a decrease in translocation efficiency. The effects of air temperature treatment were more pronounced on the physiological disorder rate and yield. The physiological disorder rate of the EHT treatment was the highest under the DI treatment condition. The yield of the AFI (ambient air temperature with full irrigation) treatment was 3,771 kg/10a, the highest among all the treatments; however, the yield of the EHT treatment with DI and FI was 1,282 and 1,327 kg/10a, respectively. These results indicate that growth and physiological disorder rate improved with the EHT treatment; however, there was a decrease in yield. Furthermore, the formation of guard cells was abnormal and malfunctional.

However, domestic vehicle emissions test temperature of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ is it does not reflect this situation the actual test temperature to accurately measure the exhaust gas volume of the vehicle is difficult. In this study, domestic automobile exhaust gas test conditions of a test temperature $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ various temperatures, including (35, 25, 0, -7, -15, $-25^{\circ}C$) under the two vehicles (2.0L MPI, 2.4 L GDI) as was discussed with respect to the exhaust gas characteristics of the vehicle according to the ambient temperature gas. As a result, domestic emissions test temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ than average conditions were temperature decreases greenhouse gas emissions and increase overall increased by up to 15 times higher. Numerical and experimental investigation on the temperature distribution of steel tubes under solar radiation

  • The temperature on steel structures is larger than the ambient air temperature under solar radiation and the temperature distribution on the affected structure is non-uniform and complicated. The steel tube, as a main structural member, has been investigated through experiment and numerical analysis. In this study, the temperature distribution on a properly designed steel tube under solar radiation is measured. A finite element transient thermal analysis method is presented and verified by the experimental results and a series of parametric studies are carried out to investigate the influence of various geometric properties and orientation on the temperature distribution. Furthermore, a simplified approach is proposed to predict the temperature distribution of steel tube. Based on both the experimental and the numerical results, it is concluded that the solar radiation has a significant effect on the temperature distribution of steel tubes. Under the solar radiation, the temperature of steel tubes is about $20.6^{\circ}C$ higher than the ambient air temperature. The temperature distribution of steel tubes is sensitive to the steel solar radiation absorption, steel tube diameter and orientation, but insensitive to the solar radiation reflectance and thickness of steel tube.

Virtual Simulation of Temperature Distribution throughout Beef Packages with Time-temperature Indicator (TTI) Labels

  • If the time-temperature indicator (TTI) experienced a different temperature than the accompanied packaged food, influenced by heat transfer between the TTI, package, and ambient air, TTI would incorrectly predict the food quality changes with temperature. Temperature distributions of a finite slab with different sizes, representing beef packaged with TTI, were estimated by the finite element method (FEM). The thermal properties of the beef and TTI, such as heat capacity, density, and heat conductivity, were estimated from the relevant equations using their chemical compositions. The FEM simulations were performed for three cases: different locations of TTIs on the beef, different thicknesses of beef, and non-isothermal conditions of ambient air. The TTIs were mounted in four different locations on the beef. There was little difference in temperature between four locations of the TTI on the package surface. As the thickness of the slab increased, the temperature of the TTI changed faster, followed by the corner surface, as well as middle and bottom parts, indicating the possible error for temperature agreement between the TTI and the slab. Consequently, it was found that any place on the package could be selected for TTI attachment, but the package size should carefully be determined within a tolerable error of temperature.

  • We investigated the mechanism of mobility enhancement after the dehydrogenation process in polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin films. The dehydrogenation process was performed by using an in-situ CVD chamber in a $N_2$ ambient or an ex-situ furnace in air ambient. We observed that the dehydrogenated poly-Si in a $N_2$ ambient had a lower oxygen concentration than the dehydrogenated poly-Si annealed in an air ambient. The in-situ dehydrogenation increased the (111) preferred orientation of poly-Si and reduced the oxygen concentration in poly-Si thin films, leading to a reduction of the trap density near the valence band. This phenomenon gave rise to an increase of the field-effect mobility of the poly-Si thin film transistor.

  • The occurrence of white plume in the cooling tower is phenomenon that the steam in the air through the cooling tower fan is condensed again by the cold ambient air to become saturated moist air. Accordingly, this can cause many problems like spoiling landscape around the cooling tower, odor of ambient air, falling accident by frozenness in the winter, and traffic accident, etc. This study was to install the heat exchanger in the inside of the cooling tower in order to prevent the white plume phenomenon in the cooling tower without affecting the performance of cooling tower. In addition, this study was to discharge the part of cooling water into the atmosphere through the recirculation of heat exchanger after creating dry air by heating the saturated moist air to the dew point temperature. At that time, this study was to conduct the experimental study in order to secure the optimal design data to prevent the white plume in the cooling tower because it checked the dry·moist temperature and relative humidity in the inside·outside of cooling tower on the moist air, and evaluated the performance of the heat exchanger.
