Comparison of Primary Breast Cancer Size by Mammography and Sonography

  • Purpose: To compare tumor size by mammography and sonography and align with pathological results in primary breast cancer cases. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 95 primary breast cancer patients who underwent mammography and sonography from January 2011 to June 2012. The largest tumor diameter was chosen as sizing reference for each imaging modality. The measurements of mammography and sonography were considered concordant if they were within the measurement of pathological results ${\pm}0.5cm$. Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated for imaging results. Results: The range of the maximum diameter was 0.6cm-10.5cm and mean value was $3.81{\pm}2.04cm$ by pathological results, 0.7cm-12.4 cm and $3.99{\pm}2.19cm$ by mammography, and 0.9cm-11.0cm and $3.63{\pm}2.01cm$ by sonography, respectively. Sonography (R: 0.754), underestimated tumor size, but had a better correlation with pathological tumor size compared to mammography (R: 0.676), which overestimated tumor size. Conclusions: Sonography is superior to mammography in assessment of primary breast cancer.

  • 시멘틱 웹은 현재의 월드와이드웹의 진화된 모습으로 컴퓨터와 인간이 서로 협업할 수 있도록 컴퓨터가 이해할 수 있는 지식데이터베이스인 온톨로지 기술을 활용한다. 그러나, 온톨로지를 활용하여 정보의 의미를 이해하고 처리 가능하도록 데이터의 표현형식이 표준화 되더라도, 각기 다른 개발자가 서로 다른 개념하에 구축한 온톨로지를 기반으로 작성된 데이터는 상호 불일치 문제를 유발할 수 있다. 따라서, 서로 다른 개념 하에 구축된 온톨로지 간에는 상호 서로 다른 온톨로지 간 정렬작업이 필요하다. 서로 다른 온톨로지 개념노드 간 자동화 처리된 의미정렬 시 인간전문가가 참으로 판단한 사실을 거짓으로 잘못 판단하는 문제상황(false negative)에 의해 정렬오류문제가 발생하게 되는데, 본 연구에서는 서로 다른 온톨로지 개념노드 간 의미정렬과정에서 발생하는 false negative 오류를 최소화 할 수 있는 알고리즘을 새롭게 개발, 제시하였다.

기업의 환경, 보건, 및 안전 (EHS) 조직의 직무능력 개선과 환경변화 대응 방안 (Strategies to Improve Functional Competency and Effectively Respond to Environmental Changes of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Team in Companies)

  • Our nation has experienced remarkable growth over the half a century. Nonetheless, there is still much room for improvement in the area of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). In particular, frequency and severity of industrial accidents did not considerably improve compared to the economic and social progress we made. The main objective of this research is to analyze what plans and actions are required for companies to promote industrial safety by 1) fostering functional competencies of EHS staffs and 2) effectively and proactively responding to rapidly changing EHS environment. For this research, EHS staffs from five large companies in Korea were surveyed. Most respondents indicated that one of key expertise required by EHS staffs is capabilities to effectively deal with changes to various domestic and international EHS-related laws and regulations. Furthermore, a predominant number of respondents commented that it is imperative for EHS staffs to have a broad knowledge of business management. As for internal issues that EHS staffs encounter within their organizations, many pointed out that their EHS vision is not sufficiently shared throughout the organization, and that the rules of leadership are critical in solving this issue. On the other hand, the survey respondents also raised an issue of limited EHS-related investments due to slow economy. As a solution, they proposed ways to align EHS organization's performance with the company's performance. Based on this survey, issues and solutions for EHS organizations were identified. Results of this research can benefit companies that plan to newly establish or further expand EHS organization.

결함 검출을 위한 2차원 산업 영상 정합 기법 (2D Industrial Image Registration Method for the Detection of Defects)

  • 본 논문에서는 결함 검출을 위하여 2차원 산업 영상 정합 기법을 제안한다. 제안 기법은 먼저 참조 영상과 입력 영상 각각에 대하여 원 영상을 평활하면서도 경계를 보존하는 전처리 과정을 수행하여 일반적인 잡음에 강인한 정합을 가능하게 한다. 다음으로 x축 방향의 기울기 크기 영상 및 이진 영상을 생성한 후 각 픽셀별 주변 영역 밀도 분석을 통하여 특징 영상을 생성하여 산업 영상에서 자주 발생하는 모아레 형태의 패턴으로 인한 오정합을 방지한다. 마지막으로 이렇게 생성된 특징 영상에 대하여 위상 연관성을 이용한 정합을 수행하여 두 영상을 고속으로 최적으로 정렬하는 위치 이동 정합 인자를 계산할 수 있다. 실험 결과 실제 산업 영상에 대한 정합 정확성은 100%였고, 기존 기법보다 약 20배의 속도 향상이 있었다. 이와 같이 제안기법은 실제 산업 응용이 가능한 빠른 속도와 정확한 정합 정확도를 보여주었다.

환경불확실성과 물류정보시스템 간의 적합성이 물류성과에 미치는 영향: 기업규모의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Moderating Effects of Firm Size on the Relation of Environmental Uncertainty-Logistics Information Systems Fit and Logistics Performance)

  • 본 연구는 물류관리시스템 성과를 극대화하기 위해 외부환경과 물류정보시스템 간의 적합성이 물류성과에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 과정에서 기업의 규모에 따라 물류성과는 차별적인 영향을 받고 있는가를 연구의 목적으로 한다. 실증분석결과, 먼저 환경불확실성과 물류정보시스템 간의 적합성의 차이에 따라 물류성과가 차이가 있는가에 대한 실증결과에 의하면 적합성이 높은 그룹이 낮은 그룹보다 물류성과가 높다는 연구결과를 보이고 있다. 둘째, 환경불확실성과 물류정보시스템 간의 적합성에 따른 물류성과 차이가 기업규모에 따라 차이가 있는가에 대한 연구결과를 보면, 기업의 규모에 따라 물류성과는 차이가 있다는 연구결과를 보이고 있다. 즉 이러한 연구결과는 외부환경과 물류정보시스템 간의 적합성을 통한 물류성과 향상의 달성은 규모의 경제 논리에 따라 기업규모가 클수록 물류성과가 효율적이라는 선행연구 결과에 의해서 기업의 규모에 따라 차별적으로 물류성과 향상을 꾀할 수 있다는 연구결과이다. 본 연구결과는 전략의 수립 실행만을 초점으로 하는 물류경영실무에 대해서도 기업의 규모에 대한 명시적인 고려가 필요함을 시사해 준다. 또한 기업의 성과함의를 분석하기 위해서 전략 실행의 문제를 배제하고 있는 물류경영실무에 대해서도 기업규모에 따른 적절한 물류정보시스템의 선택에 관한 문제를 고려할 필요가 있음을 제시하는 연구결과이다.

자기장 영향에 따른 자기유변탄성체의 구름 마찰 특성 연구 (A Study on Rolling Friction Characteristics of Magneto-Rheological Elastomer under Magnetic Fields)

  • Magneto-rheological elastomer (MR elastomer) is a smart material, because it has mechanical properties that change under a magnetic field. An MR elastomer changes its stiffness characteristics when the inner particles (iron particles) align along the direction of a magnetic field. There has been much research to make use of this characteristic to control vibration issues in various mechanical systems, such as for mounting systems in the automotive field, home appliances, etc. Furthermore, the friction and wear properties of MR elastomer have been studied, as these relate to the durability of the material needed to meet engineering requirements. Rolling friction (or rolling resistance) is one of these friction properties, but has not yet been studied in the context of MR elastomers. In this study, an MR elastomer is fabricated in the shape of a hollow cylinder to evaluate the rolling friction characteristic under a magnetic field. The test apparatus is setup and a strain gauge is used to calculate the rolling resistance under test conditions. Permanent magnets are used to supply the magnetic field during tests. The load and rolling speed conditions are also considered for the tests. The test results show that rolling friction characteristic has a different trend under different magnetic field, load, and rolling speed conditions. It is assumed that the stiffness change of an MR elastomer under a magnetic field has an effect on the rolling friction characteristic of the MR elastomer. For the future work, the rolling friction characteristics of MR elastomers will be controlled by adjusting the strength of the magnetic field using electromagnets.

Automatic Person Identification using Multiple Cues

  • This paper describes a method for vision-based person identification that can detect, track, and recognize person from video using multiple cues: height and dressing colors. The method does not require constrained target's pose or fully frontal face image to identify the person. First, the system, which is connected to a pan-tilt-zoom camera, detects target using motion detection and human cardboard model. The system keeps tracking the moving target while it is trying to identify whether it is a human and identify who it is among the registered persons in the database. To segment the moving target from the background scene, we employ a version of background subtraction technique and some spatial filtering. Once the target is segmented, we then align the target with the generic human cardboard model to verify whether the detected target is a human. If the target is identified as a human, the card board model is also used to segment the body parts to obtain some salient features such as head, torso, and legs. The whole body silhouette is also analyzed to obtain the target's shape information such as height and slimness. We then use these multiple cues (at present, we uses shirt color, trousers color, and body height) to recognize the target using a supervised self-organization process. We preliminary tested the system on a set of 5 subjects with multiple clothes. The recognition rate is 100% if the person is wearing the clothes that were learned before. In case a person wears new dresses the system fail to identify. This means height is not enough to classify persons. We plan to extend the work by adding more cues such as skin color, and face recognition by utilizing the zoom capability of the camera to obtain high resolution view of face; then, evaluate the system with more subjects.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine some of the most important factors for the development of information systems with today's fast-paced, ever-changing, and exciting information system environment. Especially, it was focused to investigate current information technology related to develop information systems, to find some important problems during the development process, and to suggest solutions for the problems. Case research methodology was used because a natural setting was needed and a focus was on contemporary events for this study. Similarly, research phenomena was not supported by a strong theoretical base. The case was the development of an integrated information systems in a specific university. Multiple-case designs were desirable, but single-case study was used because of limitations of site selection. Multiple data collection methods were employed in this study such as documentation, interviews, and direct observation. Some major problems were found during the system development. First, the schedule to complete a project was delayed over six months. Second, the system did not ensure to align organizational goals and information systems goals based on BPR (Business Process Reengineering). Third, there was a difficulty in evaluating request for proposal (RPR) returns and choosing a vendor. Finally, information technology is changing too fast. So, it was very difficult to get the transparency of new technology The study has suggested a few solutions: top management support, matching If planning with business planning, complete project plan and control, user participation, and training Finally, joint application development (JAD) is strongly recommended, which is a workshop that unites management, IT specialists, and knowledge workers to define and specify the logical requirements and technical alternatives for a proposed system.

Trajectory Studies of Methyl Radical Reaction with Iodine Molecule

  • The reaction of methyl radical with iodine molecule on an attractive potential energy surface is studied by classical trajectory procedures. The reaction occurs over a wide range of impact parameters with the majority of reactive events occurring in the backward rebound region on a subpicosecond scale. A small fraction of reactive events take place in the forward hemisphere on a longer time scale. The ensemble average of reaction times is 0.36 ps. The occurrence of reactive events is strongly favored when the incident radical and the target molecule align in the neighborhood of collinear geometry. Since the rotational velocity of I2 is slow, the preferential occurrence of reactive events at the collinear configuration of $CH_3{\ldots}I{\ldots}$I leads to the reaction exhibiting an anisotropic dependence on the orientation of $I_2$. During the collision, there is a rapid flow of energy from the $H_3C{\ldots}$I interaction to the I-I bond. The $CH_3I$ translation and $H_3C$-I vibration share nearly all the energy released in the reaction, and the distribution of the vibrational energy is statistical. The reaction probability is $\cong$0.4 at the $CH_3$ and I2 temperatures maintained at 1000 K and 300 K, respectively. The probability is weakly dependent on the $CH_3\;and\;I_2$ temperatures between 300 K and 1500 K.

IT혁신, IT의존성 및 EA활용이 IT-비즈니스 연계(Alignment)에 미치는 영향 연구 (A Study on the Effects for IT Innovation, IT Dependency and Enterprise Architecture Usage on IT-Business Alignment)

  • 본 연구에서는 십 수년간 조직의 경영진과 CIO의 가장 큰 관심사 중 하나인 IT-비즈니스 연계에 실무적 관점에서 영향을 주는 요인에 대해 분석하였다. 기업이 시장경쟁력을 갖추기 위해서는 끊임없이 혁신해야 하고 혁신도구로 IT활용이 일반화되어 대두된 IT혁신, 업무의 IT활용이 늘어남에 따른 IT의존성, 그리고 업무와 IT의 복잡성이 증대되어 이를 해결하기 위한 EA활용은 IT-비즈니스 연계에 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설을 제시하였고 이를 검증하기 위해 관련 전문가 120명으로 부터 설문을 수집하여 PLS(Partial Least Square)를 통해 유의성을 조사하였다. 본 연구를 통한 시사점은 첫째 IT혁신을 효율화하기 위해서는 기술적, 업무적인 사전검토와 사후활용에 대한 고려가 필요하고 두 번째 IT의존성이 높아지면 IT구축시에 보다 명확한 요구사항 정의가 가능해지며 세 번째 EA활용이 IT-비즈니스 연계에 유의성을 입증한 만큼 EA를 보다 적극적으로 활용하기 위한 시스템 적용이 활성화 될 것으로 기대한다.
