  • To examine the radioprotective effect of algin-oligosaccharide(AOS), radiation-induced IL(interleukin)-6 in mice treated with 3 Gy whole body irradiation once were examined. In the measurement of irradiation-induced IL-6, in comparison with the irradiation control group, in both small intestine and liver tissues of the group treated with algin-oligosaccharide for 7 days prior to irradiation, was suppressed IL-6 synthesis(p < 0.001). It is considered that the protection against radiation hazard by antioxydative reaction of algin-oligosaccharide results in down control of IL-6 value in experimental groups treated with algin-oligosaccharide. In conclusion, through our study, the fact that algin-oligosaccharide has irradiation protection effects was elucidated, and simultaneously, the possibility of the use of a natural product without chemical toxicity as an irradiation protection agent was confirmed.

  • In order to find out the Radioprotective effect of algin-oligosaccharide(AOS), this study, with a mouse of which whole frame irradiated by 3 Gy radiation once, measured caspase-3 and caspase-9 amid cell signaling connected to apoptosis in order to observe cell activation. In Caspase-3 and Caspase-9 test for observing cell activation, both of Caspase-3 and Caspase-9 showed highly increased O.D. value in the irradiation control group, while the whole groups treated with algin-oligosaccharide before or after irradiation indicated lower O.D. value than the irradiation control group, especially showed big difference in 7 day's treatment group of before irradiation (P<0.001). It confirmed that Caspase generation was restrained in AOS treatment group. Consequently, this study inquired into the fact that algin-oligosaccharide with superior antioxidant activity performed radiation protection by inducing restraint of Caspase generation and confirmed that natural product with less chemical toxicity was able to be applied as radioprotector.

  • In order to find out the radioprotective effect of algin-oligosaccharide, this study, with a mouse of which whole body irradiated by 3 Gy radiation once, measured nitric oxide. In nitric oxide test for observing the reaction of cell inflammation, nitric oxide showed decreased in the irradiation control group, while 3 day's treatment group with algin-oligosaccharide before or after irradiation indicated higher than the irradiation control group, especially showed big difference in 3 day's treatment group before irradiation (P<0.001). Consequently, this study inquired into the fact that algin-oligosaccharide with superior antioxidant activity performed radiation protection by increasing promotion of nitric oxide generation and confirmed that natural product with less chemical toxicity was able to be applied as radioprotector.

  • Most severe problem in production of potted kalanchoe during summer season is retardation of growth caused by high temperature. The aim of this experiment was aimed to investigate the effects of natural products such as algin-oligosacchride and glucosamine oligosaccharide, plant growth promoting rhizovacteria such as Pseudomonas sp. B and Pseudomonas sp. D2, and AG-solution on the growth of potted kalanchoe under the different root zone temperature in the greenhouse. Growth characteristics in terms of plant height, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, leaf weight, fresh weight of shoot and root and root length were recorded under three root zone temperatures (25$^{\circ}C$, 30$^{\circ}C$, 35$^{\circ}C$). In 25$^{\circ}C$, the mixed treatment of Pseudomonas sp. B and glucosamine oligosaccharide resulted in the best growth in terms of plant height, leaf area and root weight. In 3-$^{\circ}C$, glucosamine oligosaccharide treatment gave fair result in plant height and leaf weight, but the mixed treatemtn of Pseudomonas sp. D2 and algin-oligosaccharide showed better growth on leaf area and root weight. In 35$^{\circ}C$, the mixed treatment of Pseudomonas sp. B and glucosamine oligosaccharide could greatly improve the plant height, leaf area, leaf weight and root weight. These results demonstrated that the mixed treatment of natural products and microorganisms could overcome the detrimental effects caused by high temeprature in the production of kalanchoe.
