This paper presents a fundamental findings of the functional and structural performance of the porous asphalt concrete coated with MMA resin. To evaluate the structural performance, cantabro, wheel tracking, moisture sensitivity and indirect tensile fatigue tests are performed. The tests results show that the cantabro loss is reduced three times and fatigue resistance is significantly increased after the specimens are coated with MMA resin. However there are little changes in the rutting and moisture damage resistances before and after the coating. Air voids, permeability and BPT(British Pendulum Test) tests are conducted to study the functional performance. It is observed form the tests that the air voids and permeability are slightly decreased after the coating. However, the changes in the air voids and permeability are negligible. The skid resistance of the coated specimens is lower than reference specimens. However, the skid resistance is maintained beyond the level of the reference specimens when silica sands are chipped on top of the coated surface.
Recently, investigated failures of external post-tensioned (PT) tendons have called attention to the corrosion of strands in PT bridges, and the prevention of ongoing corrosion is required to secure their structural integrity. Since voids inside ducts can be a source for the ingress of water or deleterious chemicals, the vacuum grouting (VG) method and a volumeter for estimating amount of repair grouts were employed to fill voided ducts. However, the VG method is expensive and time-consuming for infield application because it requires an air-tight condition of entire ducts. Thus, latest research assessed three different repair grouting methods, and the pressure vacuum grouting (PVG) method was recommended in the field because it showed good filling capability in voided ducts and did not require an air-tight condition. Thus, a new method is required to estimate the volume of repair grouts because the PVG method is not applied in air-tight ducts. This research assesses the relationship between voided areas on ducts identified with soundings and required grout volume for repair using experimental results. The results show that the proposed equations and assumptions for estimating repair grout volume provide a sufficient amount of repair grouts for filling voided ducts.

Transmission equipment is mainly used for the XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) insulation cable for ultra high voltage power to minimize power loss. The experiment examined the partial discharge characteristics according to the insertion of the bar electrode and needle electrode into the XLPE specimen and the air voids. XLPE insulation cable manufactured by T. company and tungsten electrode material by K. company were used for specimens, by adhering conductive tape on the semi-conductive material of the lower electrode of XLPE specimen with the dimension of $16{\times}40{\times}30$ [mm] was used as negative electrode. In order to investigate the PD with ${\phi}$-q-n of XLPE specimen according to the electrode shape and the size of air voids. we examined the PD by varying the voltage after applying voltage of 3~20 kV on the electrode. Therefore, it was confirmed from the result of PD characteristics of specimen that the larger the air void than the gap between electrode (+) and electrode(-), the larger effect on the discharge when the bar electrode and needle electrode inserted into XLPE, and the closer the distance between the insulation and the needle electrode, the faster insulation breakdown.

Air void systems in hardened concrete has an important influence on concrete durability such as freeze-thaw resistance, water permeability, surface scaling resistance. Linear traverse method and point count method described at ASTM is the routine analysis of the air void system that have been widely used to estimate the spacing factor in hardened concrete. Recently, many concretes often have a spacing factor higher than the generally accepted $200-250{\mu}m$ limit for the usual range of air contents. This study is proposed to estimate the matrix spacing factor by calculation of simplicity. The matrix spacing factor needs two parameters that are air content and numbers of air voids in the hardened concrete. Those are obtained from the standard air-void system analysis of the ASTM C 457. The equation is valid for all values of paste-to-air ratio because the estimation of paste content is unnecessary at the using ASTM C 457. The matrix spacing factor yields a similar estimate of the standard spacing factor.
In order to develop and take full advantage of pasture fiber and waste concrete, this article studied how different amounts of pasture fiber influenced the toughness and pore structure of concrete with different replacement rates of recycled fine aggregate. Pasture fiber recycled concrete constitutive equations were established under idealized stiffness and toughness damage rate, based on fracture energy and damage mechanics theories. The relationship between pore structure and toughness was studied utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance and fractal theory. The toughness of text groups (0% (JZ), 10% (ZS10), 20% (ZS20)) first increased and then decreased with increasing amounts of pasture fiber, based on the damage rate of toughness. The toughness of concrete samples with recycled fine aggregate and pasture fiber is negatively correlated to the fractal dimension of small and medium-sized pores with a pore size of 0-500 nm. At a replacement rate of 10% of the recycled fine aggregate, the fractal dimension of the air voids (r: 500-9000 nm, i.e., Lg(r) ∈ [2.7, 3.9]) shows a gradual decrease with the increase of grass fiber dosage, indicating that with such a replacement rate of the recycled fine aggregate, the increase of pasture fiber can reduce the complexity of the pore structure of the air voids (500-9000 nm).

As concrete forms, panel forms made of plywood used to be widely used, but recently a system form made of aluminum has been broadly adopted because of the advantages it offers in terms of constructability and economy. However, an aluminum form reacts with concrete, which is alkali, and creates hydrogen gas. As a result, air pockets occur on the concrete's surface, and its finishability deteriorates. Therefore, this research analyzed the relationship between the distribution of voids and surface roughness and the damage degree and number of uses of the aluminum form. The analysis of the distribution of voids shows that the number of voids of 0.1~1 mm, which are considered to have occurred because of chemical reaction, was 200~500 on the coating plywood, but was 1 500~2 000 on the aluminum form after 3 uses, and impossible to count after a higher number of uses. Surface roughness was $1.7{\sim}3.2{\mu}m$ on the coating plywood form, but was about $2.6{\mu}m$ after the first use and about $6.8{\mu}m$ after 10 uses, a 2.6-fold increase. Distribution of voids did not show a particular tendency depending upon the degree of damage to the concrete form, but surface roughness showed an increasing tendency as the degree of damage grows. Therefore, when using aluminum forms, surface maintenance should be carried out completely, such as prevention of damages to the form surface coating materials and spreading of separating materials on forms.
In this study, void behavior of composite laminate by local internal pressure gradient due to structural geometry and surface film application condition was experimentally evaluated through fabrication of spar/skin integrated structure specimens. Viscosity comparison and thermal analysis for both carbon fiber prepreg and surface film were conducted and cure characteristic and rate difference were analyzed. 2 types of spar/skin integrated structural specimens were prepared based on different application condition of surface film. Subsequently, those specimens were evaluated through visual surface inspection, non-destructive and destructive inspection. In a specimen #1 with full application of surface film, low pressurized area of composite laminate created by pressure gradient of structural geometry had voids. It exhibited that voids could not be evacuated and were locked in cured laminate by the influence of pre-cured surface film with relatively faster cure rate. In a specimen #2 without surface film, it revealed that all internal voids disappeared in the cured laminate. Therefore, it is verified that surface film acts as barrier film preventing void movement and evacuation during autoclave cure.

Classified with concrete as placing ways - direct ways, sheath way - and placing directing flange direction, web direction - is analyzed section and strength of hardened concrete. The results of this study is belows the more fluid of concrete, the more useful to top-down method. To minimize the voids of the reverse placement joints, It is more effect to use the sheath method than direct method in concrete placement. If the joint face is a plane, it is impossible to extract the air bubbles which caused voids, so we should consider about this, and decide to select which type of joints.
In order to investigate the effect of pre-cooling of ingot on void closure in hot plate forging the internal strain and stress distributions are examined quantitatively by using ABAQUS. Simula-tions are carried out on a large slab ingot having the same temperature and the temperature gradient induced by air-cooling. It is shown that pre-cooling produces little effect on the strain behavior but remarkable effect on the hydrostatic stress at the central zone of ingot. The main factors for crushing micro-voids are the effective strain and the time integral of hydrostatic stress in the region surrounding the voids. Based on regression analysis it was found that the distortion of void can be expressed as a polynomial function of the two factors.

This paper synthetically analyzes micrometeorological data and geomorphological features of Doeksan-ri Eoreumgol(ice valley) Yeongdeok-gun in order to investigate occurrence characteristics of the ice valley and a mechanism for freezing in summer. This ice valley is located in the distal end of a talus and intensity of cooling and freezing in summer seems to be related to morphology and dimensions of talus. Cooling in the ice valley is generated by cold air flows that move down to the bottom of talus from high mountains through pores and voids, then debris in talus is supercooled by the cold air. For it forms a stable state in and around voids cold air is stagnating in the lower end of talus. This causes freezing in summer at outpour points. Furthermore humidity condition of external air and vaporization heat is a key factor when freezing.
