Aggregate may limit the strength of concrete, and aggregate with undesirable properties cannot produces strong concrete. Also, the properties of aggregate greatly affect the durability and structural performance of concrete. Recently, it has increased the using of crushed aggregate for concrete due to the exhaustion of good natural aggregate. In case of Korea, in 2002, the using ration of crushed stone occupies about 97% of whole coarse aggregate, and ratio of crushed sand occupies about 18.3% of whole fine aggregate. This is a study to compare and analyze the properties of crushed aggregate for concrete to do mix proportion and improve the concrete quality. According to results, it was found that nearly all the properties of crushed aggregate satisfied with the value recommended by KS.
In practice, recycled aggregate is not used for a structural member due to its high absorbability and abrasion. It is, however, highly expected that the usage of recycled aggregate increases as the processing technique of the recycled aggregate progresses. In this study herein, the compressive strength of the recycled aggregate concrete was investigated. Coarse aggregate was replaced with 100% of the recycled aggregate, and cement and fine aggregate was replaced with various amount. The specimen was steam-cured at $80^{\circ}C$. It was shown that the concrete can obtain desirable strength when fine aggregate was replaced with up to 60% of recycled fine aggregate, and when cement was replaced with up to 15% of fly ash.
Since at least three-quarters of the volume of concrete is occupied by aggregate, it is not surprising that its quality is considerable importance. Not only may the aggregate limit the strength of concrete, as weak aggregate cannot porduce strong concrete, but the properties of aggregate greatly affect the durability and sructural performance of concrete. But, it is ture that aggregate strength is usually not a factor in normal concrete strength because the aggregate particle is several times stronger than the matrix and the transition zone in concrete. This study is to consider the influence the strength of concrete according to the kinds of aggregate, such as crushed river rocks, curshed rocks, high strength recycled aggregate, low strength recycled aggregate at water cement ratio 0.25. It is possible to concern the important of the mechanical role of aggegate for the high strength concrete.
This study investigated fundamental properties of the recycled aggregate which was produced through recent hi-techniques of recycling. In addition, the mechanical properties of the concrete that used the recycled aggregate were compared to the concrete used the natural aggregate. From the results of the mechanical property tests, as the recycled aggregate replacement ratio increased, the compressive strength and elastic modulus decreased. When the recycled aggregate completely replaced the natural aggregate, the compressive strength and elastic modulus was about 15$\%$ and 35$\%$ lower than the natural aggregate concrete, respectively. Based on the test results, equations for prediction of compressive strength and elastic modulus were suggested in the consideration of the amount of the replaced recycled aggregate. Based on the test results and study, the equation predicting the required development length of the recycled aggregate concrete is proposed.
Compared with the BF slag, the EAF slag has expansion due to the reaction with water and free CaO. Therefore it is specified in Concrete Specification that the FAP slag aggregated must not be used in concrete. Because of this reason it is unusual to use the EAF slag aggregate in concrete. The EAF slag aggregate treated with accelerated and water aging was comparatively satisfied with fundamental properties, which are specific gravity, unit weight, abrasion and immersion expansion ratio, as concrete aggregate. Therefore when we measured the compressive strength till 28 days, we found that the mortar and concrete replacing the natural aggregate with the EAF slag aggregate by 4 steps had better results than the concrete using the natural aggregate in a view of the compressive strength. But at 91 days, concrete using the EAF slag aggregate had no difference with it using the natural aggregate.
High absorptance of lightweight aggregate make a hard product, work, quality management ect. for making low absorptance property, lightweight aggregate is coated by an organic matter and that way remarkably showed to decrease the absorptance by pre-study. but first, we would need a check to fit into the concrete which both fresh concrete and hardened concrete. In this study, mechanical property change of coated lightweight aggregate concrete was analysed by compared experiment with coated lightweight aggregate concrete and non-coated aggregate concrete.
As Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris increases every year, systems have been adopted to compel the use of recycled aggregate made from C&D debris, and the use of recycled aggregate in the construction field has increased. But environmental problems linked to the alkalinity of recycled aggregate have occurred, and a study on approaches to lower the alkalinity of recycled aggregate is needed. It was certified by this study that a large amount of recycled aggregate could be carbonated in the C&D debris midterm-treatment field. As a result, the density and the water absorption of recycled aggregate after carbonation reaction was improved, and pH of recycled aggregate was lowered from over 11 to 9.4. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and Thermogravimetry/Differential Thermal Analysis (TG/DTA) methods also indicated the carbonation of recycled aggregate.
Lightweight aggregate is a porous material that has a lower density than natural aggregate and is a lightweight construction material. Lightweight Aggregate has a suitable purpose because it is effective in reducing the heavy unit mass in high-rise buildings. However, since lightweight aggregate has weak strength and high water absorption compared to natural aggregate, it is difficult to control the quality of concrete. Although lightweight aggregate has disadvantages such as high water absorption, it is expected that the demand for lightweight aggregate concrete will continue to use in the future because the advantage of being able to reduce the weight of concrete is greater. In this study, we conducted an experimantal study on the compressive strength property of cement matrix according to the type of lightweight aggregate.
Various attempts are being made to reduce carbon emissions through recycling of industrial by-products in the construction materials industry to reduce carbon emissions, and cement substitutes such as blast furnace slag and fly ash are widely used. Although it is suggested that the use of industrial by-product aggregate is possible in 'Aggregate', the use case of industrial by-product aggregate is very rare in the actual field. In this study, as an industrial by-product, fine slag aggregate is used as fine aggregate among aggregates that can be used as aggregate for concrete, and coarse aggregate is used as a substitute for natural aggregate. WWe tried to suggest various ways to expand the use of industrial by-product aggregates.
This study was carried out to investigate the engineering properties of no-fines con- crete, consisting only of coarse aggregate, cement and water. The used coarse aggregates were two, one is natural coarse aggregate grading 4.75~ lOmm, the other is synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate grading 3~8mm. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The W/C ratio of each type was increased with increase of additional amount of coarse aggregate. 2. The unit weight of used ndtural coarse aggregate was shown 1.762~2.184g/cm$^3$, and synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate was shown 0.756 ~ 1 .348g/cm$^3$. 3. The ahsorption rate of used natural coarse aggregate was shown 8.4 ~ 9.4 %, and synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate was shown 17.0~42.4%. 4. The compressive, tensile and hending strength was decreased with increase of coarse aggregate, respectively. The compressive strength of natural coarse aggregate 1:3 was shown 309kg/cm$^2$. 5. The ultrasonic pulse velocity and dynamic medulus of elasticity of each type was de- creased with increase coarse aggregate, respectively. Also, the decreasing rate of the natural aggregate was larger than that of the synthetic lightweight coarse ag- gregate.
