  • South Korea, which has entered an aged society, is about to enter a super-aged society in 2025. With the increase of an aging population, traffic accidents by aged drivers have been settled as a social problem. Now, when Korea is facing a super-aged society to come, a study was conducted to prevent traffic accidents that occur while the elderly people are driving through a disaster prevention design. For theoretical research, this study examined the concept and necessity of disaster prevention design, the present condition of an aged society, aged drivers' physical and cognitive characteristics, and the policies related to the forms of traffic lights the elderly people see. In addition, to propose the design, this study investigated and analyzed the traffic safety forms and colors of the International Standards Organization and proposed the first and second forms of the design of traffic lights for the gradual improvement of the traffic lights based on that. The first improved design form is a plan for displaying a triangle, an arrow with a large area, and a quadrangle in the lens of the head of the existing traffic lights, and the second improved design form is a plan for introducing a new traffic light head and forming the traffic light with a bigger triangle, an arrow with a large area and a quadrangular lens. Since it has a visually clearer form than the present traffic lights, it is expected that aged drivers who have physical and cognitive characteristics due to aging can secure better visibility and conspicuity and that they can make better reflex responses than they can now, also in the change of driving environment (rain and heavy snowstorm, etc.). In addition, it is expected that this study would be a preceding study to prepare standard guidelines on traffic safety signs other than traffic lights to be prepared for the super-aged society.

  • A chemical has been aging in soil environment is more less bioavailable than freshly added chemical. The amount of bioavailability of the aged chemical is different by bacterial strains. The difference could be depend on physiochemical properties of each strain. Phenanthrene was employed as an aged chemical. Seven bacteria were isolated from activated sludge and petroleum disposed soil. These strains were able to degrade phenanthrene and to grow using phenanthrene as a sole carbon source. According to the result of materialization and chemical extraction experiment, the bioavailable amount of aged phenanthrene which has been aged in Lima loam is different by each bacteria. Several physiochemical properties of each strain were tested to certify correlation with their different amount of bioavailability.

  • The study has been carried out in four ways to find out the fit of the present size speces of the garments for middle aged woman. For this purpose, surveys, classifying the trunk form of middle aged woman by factor analysis and clustering, calculating coverage rate of one garment item(suit) has been used. The results are as follows: (1) In case of the survey for middle aged women, the problems concerning the length of sleeves or trousers and hip girth are found. The former too long and the latter too tight. (2) The size classification and the standard deviation for each sizes are very diffenent between 9 ready-made-garment makers. (3) In classifying the trunk forms of the middle aged women, the diversity of the trunk forms are examined. (4) In calculating coverage rates of the 5 maker's size spece, those similar to KS sizing system are the highest. The coverage rate of the smallest size is the higest, while that of the biggest is 0%.

  • The population of aged people in industries has been increased remarkably due to the decline of birth rates and the increase of average life span. Also, the current automation trends makes aged people to work easy in industries since automation technologies help them to avoid physically hard tasks. Therefore the evaluation of aged workers' adaptability would be an important research topic. In the study, the mean and standard deviation of the reaction time are calculated to see the differences with four lamps's types and ages. It is found that the mean reaction time and the standard deviation are increased with the the increase of age. The quantitative approach provides an important information to be used not only for the adaptability estimation of aged workers but also for the working capability qualification for re-employment.

  • This study was performed to investigate the quality characteristics of Yanggaeng, including color, pH, total polyphenol contents, and antioxidant activities, with the addition of aged garlic extract (0, 3, 6, 9 or 12%), aged at low temperatures. Among the color characteristics, the lightness value decreased, and the redness and yellowness values increased, proportional to the amount of garlic extract concentrate added to Yanggaeng. The pH of Yanggaeng significantly (p<0.05) decreased according to the amount of aged garlic extract added. Total phenol contents of control (0% aged garlic extract added Yanggaeng) was the lowest, followed by 3, 6, 9, 12% aged garlic extract added to Yanggaeng (88.15, 118.39, 156.91, 208.79 mg/g, respectively). Antioxidant activities, such as DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity, significantly increased with increase in the aged garlic extract concentration. In the sensory evaluation for Yanggaeng, 6% aged garlic extract added to Yanggaeng had the highest score in taste, flavor, and overall acceptance. Based on these results, it is suggest that the addition of 6% aged garlic extract to Yanggaeng can be developed as a product for the elderly.
