A Study on Optimum Control of Marine Traffic(II) - In the Domain of Passage - (해상 교통량의 효율적 관리 방안에 관하여 (II) - 일반 수로의 경우 -)

  • As increasing needs of marine transportation , world merchant fleet and ship's size were enlarged and it caused frequent disasters in human lives and natural environment. By the reason of the above, they started to establish the Vessel Traffic System (VTS) at the European coast in 1960' and most of advanced contries established and managed it to prevent the sea traffic accidents in these days. The concept of traffic control at sea can be divided into three types. First, the initial gathering of informations about ship's identity and movement etc.. Second, monitoring of the traffic flow and amendment of instructions. Third , organization and direction of ships by allocating routes and speeds. Where the goal of traffic control is safety of traffics and developing effectiveness of navigation channel, if traffic volume is less tan channel capacity then the above first or second level of control would be sufficient but if it is bigger than that , more positive policy of control should be adopted as same as third type of the above. In this paper where the strategy of VTS is focused on the control of traffic density to be spread equality, as possible , all over the navigation channels and also improvement of effectiveness , it suggests algorithm to assign the vessels to the channels with balanced traffic density , and other algorithms using D.P. to sequence the vessels assigned to one channel in optimum order which decreases the mean waiting time in sense of channel effectiveness with numerical examples.

Identification of the Mechanical Resonances of Electrical Drives for Automatic Commissioning

  • The mechanical system of a drive can often be modeled as a two- or three-mass-system. The load is coupled to the driving motor by a shaft able to perform torsion oscillations. For the automatic tuning of the control, it is necessary to know the mathematical description of the system and the corresponding parameters. As the manpower and setup-time necessary during the commissioning of electrical drives are major cost factors, the development of self-operating identification strategies is a task worth pursuing. This paper presents an identification method which can be utilized for the assisted commissioning of electrical drives. The shaft assembly can be approximated as a two-mass non-rigid mechanical system with four parameters that have to be identified. The mathematical background for an identification procedure is developed and some important implementation issues are addressed. In order to avoid the excitation of the system with its natural resonance frequency, the frequency response can be obtained by exciting the system with a Pseudo Random Binary Signal (PRBS) and using the cross correlation function (CCF) and the auto correlation function (ACF). The reference torque is used as stimulation and the response is the mechanical speed. To determine the parameters, especially in advanced control schemes, a numerical algorithm with excellent convergence characteristics has also been used that can be implemented together with the proposed measurement procedure in order to assist the drive commissioning or to achieve an automatic setting of the control parameters. Simulations and experiments validate the efficiency and reliability of the identification procedure.

Optimization Analysis of the Shape and Position of a Submerged Breakwater for Improving Floating Body Stability

  • Submerged breakwaters can be installed underneath floating structures to reduce the external wave loads acting on the structure. The objective of this study was to establish an optimization analysis framework to determine the corresponding shape and position of the submerged breakwater that can minimize or maximize the external forces acting on the floating structure. A two-dimensional frequency-domain boundary element method (FD-BEM) based on the linear potential theory was developed to perform the hydrodynamic analysis. A metaheuristic algorithm, the advanced particle swarm optimization, was newly coupled to the FD-BEM to perform the optimization analysis. The optimization analysis process was performed by calling FD-BEM for each generation, performing a numerical analysis of the design variables of each particle, and updating the design variables using the collected results. The results of the optimization analysis showed that the height of the submerged breakwater has a significant effect on the surface piercing body and that there is a specific area and position with an optimal value. In this study, the optimal values of the shape and position of a single submerged breakwater were determined and analyzed so that the external force acting on a surface piercing body was minimum or maximum.

  • For normally consolidated clay, several researchers have developed a number of theoretical time factors to determine the coefficient of consolidation However, depending on the assumptions and analytical techniques, it could considerably vary even for a specific degree of consolidation. In this paper, a method is proposed to determine a consistent coefficient of consolidation over all ranges of degree of consolidation by applying the concept of the Optimum Design Technique. The initial excess pore pressure distribution is assumed to be obtainable by the successive spherical cavity expansion theory. The dissipation of pore pressure is simulated by means of two dimensional linear-uncoupled axisymmetric consolidation analysis. The minimization of the differences between the measured and the predicted excess pore pressures was carried by BFGS unconstrained optimum design algorithm with one dimensional golden section search technique. By analyzing numerical and real field examples, it can be found that the adopted optimum technique gives a consistent and convergent results.

  • This paper considers that advanced planning and scheduling (APS) in manufacturing and the efficient purchasing where each customer order has its due date and multi-suppliers exit We present a Make-To­Order Supply Chan (MTOSC) model of efficient purchasing process from multi-suppliers and APS with outsourcing in a supply chain, which requires the absolute due date and minimized total cost. Our research has included two states. One is for efficient purchasing from suppliers: (a) selection of suppliers for required parts; (b) optimum part lead­time of selected suppliers. Supplier selection process has received considerable attention in the business­management literature. Determining suitable suppliers in the supply chain has become a key strategic consideration. However, the nature of these decisions usually is complex and unstructured. These influence factors can be divided into quantitative and qualitative factors. In the first level, linguistic values are used to assess the ratings for the qualitative factors such as profitability, relationship closeness and quality. In the second level a MTOSC model determines the solutions (supplier selection and order quantity) by considering quantitative factors such as part unit price, supplier's lead-time, and storage cost, etc. The other is for APS: (a) selection of the best machine for each operation; (b) deciding sequence of operations; (c) picking out the operations to be outsourcing; and (d) minimizing makespan under the due date of each customer's order. To solve the model, a genetic algorithm (GA)-based heuristic approach is developed. From the numerical experiments, GA­based approach could efficiently solve the proposed model, and show the best process plan and schedule for all customers' orders.

Nondestructive Damage Identification of Free Vibrating Thin Plate Structures Using Micro-Genetic Algorithms (마이크로 유전 알고리즘을 이용한 자유진동 박판구조물의 비파괴 손상 규명)

  • This study deals with a method to identify damages of free vibrating thin plate structures using the combined finite element method (FEM) and the advanced uniform micro-genetic algorithm.To solve the inverse problem using the combined method, this study uses several natural frequencies instead of mode shapes in a structure as the measured data. The technique described in this paper allows us not only to detect the damaged elements but also to find their numbers, locations, and the extent of damage.To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method, the algorithm is applied to a free vibrating steel thin plate structures with arbitrary damages. From the standpoint of computation efficiency, the proposed method in this study has advantages when compared with the existing simple genetic algorithms. The numerical examples demonstrate that the method using micro-genetic algorithms can possibly detect correctly the damages of thin plates from only several natural frequencies instead of their natural modes.

  • This paper investigates the applicability of optical flow information for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigation under environments where global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is unavailable. Since the optical flow information is one of important measurements to estimate horizontal velocity and position, accuracy of the optical flow information must be guaranteed. So a navigation algorithm, which can estimate and cancel biases that the optical flow information may have, is suggested to improve the estimation performance. In order to apply and verify the proposed algorithm, an integrated simulation environment is built by designing a guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system. Numerical simulations are implemented to analyze the navigation performance using this environment.

GA-based parameter identification of DC motors (DC 모터의 GA 기반 파라미터 추정)

  • In order to design the speed controller of the DC motor system, firstly, parameters estimation of the system must be preceded. In this paper, we proposed the application of genetic algorithm(GA) optimization in estimating the parameters of DC motor. Estimated models are considered both first and second order models, and each estimated model is optimized by minimizing three different types of the evaluation function of GA. Also, GA is imported in comparison with estimation result of numerical analysis method because of its power in searching entire solution space with more probability of finding the global optimum. Data for parameter estimation is acquired from input and output signals of the actual experiment device and the butterworth filter also designs for removing noise in the signals. Finally comparison between real data of the actual device and estimated models is presented to indicate effectiveness and resolution of proposed identification method.

Beam selection method for millimeter-wave-based uplink hybrid beamforming systems (밀리미터파 기반 상향링크 하이브리드 빔포밍 시스템을 위한 빔선택 방법)

  • Millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication systems provide high data rates owing to the large bandwidths available at mm-wave frequencies. Recently, analogue and digital combined beamforming, namely "hybrid beamforming" has drawn attentions owing to its ability to realize the required link margins in mm-wave systems. Taking into account the radio frequency (RF) hardware limitations, such as the analogue phase shifter gain constraint and the low resolution of the phase controller, we introduce an uplink hybrid beamforming system that includes discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based "fixed" analogue beamforming. We adopt a zero-forcing (ZF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) equalizer to eliminate the uplink inter-user interferences. Moreover, to improve the sum-rate performances, we propose a transmit beam selection algorithm which makes the uplink effective channels, i.e., the beamformed channels, become near orthogonal. The effectiveness of the proposed beam selection algorithm was verified through numerical simulations.

Stability and Complexity of Static Output Feedback Controllers (고정형 출력 궤환 제어기의 안정성과 복잡도)

  • Limited access to state information in the design of a feedback controller has brought out a significant amount of research on the design of an output feedback controller. Despite its long endeavor to find an optimal one, it is still an open problem. Thus, we focus on the comparison of existing states of arts in the design of a static output feedback controller in terms of stability and complexity so as to find further research direction in this field. To this end, we present eight design methods in a unified presentation. We also provide the complete description of algorithms which can be applicable to any system configuration. Stability performance and complexity in terms of processing time are evaluated through numerical simulations. Simulation results show that the algebraic controller (AC) algorithm [20] has the smallest complexity while the scaling linear matrix inequality (SLMI) algorithm [18] seems to achieve the best stability in most cases with much higher complexity.
