  • Utilizing admixture, which is one of the raw material replacement method in the cement industry, is expected to be easily and quickly put to practical use as it is relatively more accessible than other methods. Among cement admixtures, limestone powder is reported to be able to improve cement performance through nucleation effects, chemical effects, and filler effects, so it is a material expected to be suitable as a cement admixture. Meanwhile, as high-quality limestone is depleted around the world, the use of limestone with clay or high magnesia (MgO) content is becoming increasingly inevitable. Therefore, in this study, we attempted to evaluate the suitability of limestone cement as a admixture by measuring the basic properties of limestone cement mixed with limestone of different qualities commonly used in Korea. As a result, the effect of alite reaction promotion was confirmed regardless of the chemical composition of the limestone binder. However, the dilution effect depending on the substitution amount was greater than the chemical composition. It is believed that normal-grade limestone can be used as a mixture as long as the limestone content in cement is within 15 % in this scope of study. In the future, we plan to evaluate the impact of the chemical composition of the limestone mixture through additional experiments depending on the chemical composition of cement.

  • In this study, as the resistance of the carbonation for high volume admixture incorporating concrete, coating effect of using refined cooking oil in the surface of high volume admixture incorporating concrete has been tested. The following results could be made as the conclusion. For the fresh concrete, the slump and air content has been identified as satisfying the target range. For the hardened concrete, comparing with specimen of Plain, specimen with coating showed better long age compressive strength. For the carbonation speed, the specimen of FA30 showed highest speed and the specimen of BS60 showed higher speed than specimen of Plain. For all the specimens coated with RCO, as the decrease of capillary pores inside the concrete, the carbonation speed has been obviously decreased and with even better effect than using PEP coating. It could be identified that specimens with coating by RCO showed good effect on refrain the speed of carbonation.

  • From the test results of the adsorption characteristics of AE admixture, it was shown that the adsorption of AE admixture on fly ash was mearly completed in 30 minutes and the higher was ignition loss, the larger the quantity of saturation adsorption. Because most of the ignition loss of the fly ash was due to the unburned carbon, it could be said that the unburned carbon is the main reason of reduction of air content in AE concrete. On the other hand, in the case of superplasticizer, the amount of saturation adsorption in fly ash was lower than in cement and the same result was obtained in the dispersive effect. But, when using superplasticizer in fly ash substituting concrete, the fludity in the concrete was not decreased.

  • When diatomite powder was used as an admixture in mortar, its effects on the mortar strength was examined by experimental tests. For the tests, 4 kinds of commercially available diatomite powder were purchased ; one non-calcined product, one calcined product, and flux-calcined product two. The compressive and flexural strength of the mortar according to the increase of added amount of calcined diatomite powder increased at all test ages(7, 28, and 56 days). However, the use of non-calcined diatomite powder worsened the fluidity of mortar severely and that caused much more required water content. And flux-calcined product did not show useful effect on the mortar strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of admixtures as blast-furnace slag(BF) and fly ash(FA) on tensile and adhesive properties of polymer cement mortar(PCM) with EVA emulsion. The test specimens are prepared with five polymer-cement ratio(P/C) and five admixture contents, and tested for tensile strength and adhesion in tension. From the test results, the tensile strength and adhesion in tension could be improved by an appropriate combination of P/C and admixture contents. In particular, the maximum of tensile strength of PCM with P/C 10% and BF content of 10% is 4.70MPa which is about 1.55 times higher than that of plain mortar, and about 1.22 times that of PCM that does not contain any mixture. The ratio of adhesion in tension to tensile strength of PCM with admixtures averaged 55.8%. It is also apparent that admixture contents of 5% or 10% could be proposed for improvement of tensile strength and adhesion in tension of PCM.

  • In this research, we used fly-ash and blast-furnace slag as substitute material of cement and fine aggregate, and we, through experiments, researched and analyzed the features of high-flowable concrete added high efficiency AE water reduction agent. The results are below. 1. Liquefaction generally presented high-slump flow value; on the other hand, partial segregation was observed in case of mixing proportion with 65 cm slump flow and above. This segregation was partially improved in accordance with mixing admixture. 2. Compressive strength according to mixing admixture and increasing mixing ratio of fly-ash were subject to be declined when it was initially cast-in, but its gap was improved when time was fully passed. 3. After mixing blast-furnace slag and fly-ash as substitute material, the result showed that the modulus of elasticity against freezing & melting was improved according to mixing blast-furnace slag and also increased in accordance with increasing pulverulent-body volume. 4. According to increasing the mixing volume of fly-ash, the durability factor was deteriorated because compressive strength became lower as well as air content was decreased when it was initially case-in. 5. The minimum air content to secure durability was 3.7%, for that reason, we had better secure admixture such as air entraining agent when cast-in high-flowable concrete.

  • Rapid set accelerators are widely used in tunnel construction, however quality criteria of and dosage are not well established. The density and solid content of admixtures, setting time and compressive strength of paste and mortar with admixtures were investigated to establish the quality criteria. While the early strength of mortar with sodium-silicate, sodium-aluminate and calcium aluminate type admixtures that have high alkali content are very high, but long-term strength are low. Aggregates of shotcrete has to be carefully selected. Sodium-silicate type admixture need longer setting time than the others.

  • Hydration characteristics of cement containing zeolite mined at Daepo in Gyeongbuk province were studied for use as a mineral admixture. The cement paste containing zeolite was characterized by the measurement of heat evolution, XRD, EDS, nitrogen adsorption and mercury intrusion porosimetry. The cement paste containing zeolite exhibited tendencies toward acceleration of paste setting and promotion of cement hydration with the increase of zeolite content. The flow of mortar containing zeolite strongly reduced with increase of zeolite content. Compressive strength of the mortar containing zeolite increased very rapidly at an early age in comparison with plain mortar. These results would be related to aluminum species escaped from zeolite particles during the alkali dealumination of zeolite by the hydration process of cement.

  • This study was performed to get high strength of the precase concrete adopting a steam curing by using a gypsum-admixture for the high strength concrete. The superplasticizer was used to compensate low slump of base concrete keeping its slump up about $6{\pm}1cm$. To examine the property for strength revelation of concrete using admixtures for a high strength concrete, steam and standard curing were compared each other. Test results were shown that admixtures for high strength concrete were more effective in steam curing than standard curing. On the condition that the unit cement content is about $530{\sim}600kg/m^3$, the compressive strength of concrete replacing by 10% of the admixture was obtained over $65Okgf/cm^2$, which was increased as 1.3 times as that for the nonreplacement. When the admixture was replaced to 15-30%, the compressive strengh was obtained over $700kgf/cm^2$ which was increased as 1.4 - 1.5 times. Therefore, the admixture for high strength concrete, being effective in steam curing, was more efficient to get a high strength concrete using only steam curing instead of an autoclave curing for the secondary products of cement.
