  • In information security and network management, attacks based on vulnerabilities have grown in importance. Malicious attackers break into hosts using a variety of techniques. The most common method is to exploit known vulnerabilities. Although patches have long been available for vulnerabilities, system administrators have generally been reluctant to patch their hosts immediately because they perceive the patches to be annoying and complex. To solve these problems, we propose a security vulnerability evaluation and patch framework called PKG-VUL, which evaluates the software installed on hosts to decide whether the hosts are vulnerable and then applies patches to vulnerable hosts. All these operations are accomplished by the widely used simple network management protocol (SNMP). Therefore, system administrators can easily manage their vulnerable hosts through PKG-VUL included in the SNMP-based network management systems as a module. The evaluation results demonstrate the applicability of PKG-VUL and its performance in terms of devised criteria.

  • To analyze tens of thousands of alarms triggered by the intrusion detections systems (IDS) a day has been very time-consuming, requiring human administrators to stay alert for all time. But most of the alarms triggered by the IDS prove to be the false positives. If alarms could be correctly classified into the false positive and the false negative, then we could alleviate most of the burden of human administrators and manage the IDS far more efficiently. Therefore, we present a new approach based on attribute-oriented induction (AOI) to classify alarms into the false positive and the false negative. The experimental results show the proposed approach performs very well.

  • Ecopark enables sustainable use of natural resource and can be used as a place for site-based environmental education as well as for recreation. This study investigated the opinion for the development of ecopark and ecological education program of ecopark. Nine hundred and fifteen (918) students, 388 teachers, 341 adults, 200 administrators of district education offices, and 40 administrators of environmental offices participated in this survey with a response rate of 89.7%. Results of this survey indicated the followings are needed to develop ecopark : natural resources and facilities, ecological educational program and its operation, human resource and professional development, and cooperation system with educational and environmental offices. On the basis of these results, the way of improvement was discussed and proposed.

  • Database administrators are demanded to acquire much knowledges and take great efforts for keeping consistent performance in system. Various principles, methods, and tools have been proposed in many studies and commercial products in order to alleviate such burdens on database administrators, and it has resulted to the automation of DBMS which reduces the intervention of database administrator. This paper suggests a resource selection method that estimates the status of the database system based on the workload characteristics and that recommends tuneable resources. Our method tries to simplify selection information on DBMS status using data-mining techniques, enhance the accuracy of the selection model, and recommend tuneable resource. For evaluating the performance of our method, instances are collected in TPC-C and TPC-W workloads, and accuracy are calculated using 10 cross validation method, comparisons are made between our scheme and the method which uses only the classification procedure without any simplification of informations. It is shown that our method has over 90% accuracy and can perform tuneable resource selection.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the organizational culture atpreschool institutes and management styles on job satisfaction levels among teachers. For this study, 256 teachers responded to questionnaires dealing with the following topics: the organization culture and the management styles of administrators at schools they work in and job satisfaction. The results were as follows: First, there was a significant positive correlation between organizational culture and job satisfaction. Second, there was a significant positive correlation between several sub-factors of job satisfaction and management styles. Third, in multiple regression analysis of variables, innovativeness in the organizational culturehad the most significant influence on job satisfaction. Also sub-factors of organizational culture and management styles of administrators that influenced teachers'job satisfaction ratings included collegiality, supervisory support, physical settings, reward systemsand task-centered management styles.
