  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the structural relationships among duration of media use, behavior problems, and school adjustment, while accounting for gender differences. Methods: The study used 4th-wave panel data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study, and 2,119 first graders in elementary school were analyzed. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. Results: The results can be summarized as follows. First, the duration of media use had a direct effect on school adjustment. Secondly, the duration of media use had an indirect effect on school adjustment through internalizing and externalizing problems. According to multigroup analysis, gender differences were found in the structural relations among variables. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the needs for media usage education to improve children's school adjustment. Furthermore, it suggests that different intervention strategies for internalizing/externalizing behavior problems are needed depending on gender.

  • This study investigated the relationship between mother's parenting attitudes and the adjustment to kindergarten of young children by gender and only-child/ sibling status. Subjects consisted of 210 3- to 6-year-old children and their mothers sampled from 3 kindergartens in Seoul City and Gyeongbuk Province, Korea. Instruments were the Maternal Parenting Attitude Scale (Ahn, 2000) and Kindergarten Adjustment Scale(Oh, 2006). Statistical methods were correlation and t-test. Results showed that mothers' hostile parenting attitude correlated with children's problematic adjustment to kindergarten and controlling parenting attitudes correlated with children's negative adjustment to kindergarten. Children's kindergarten adjustment varied by gender : boys' problem behavior was higher than girls'. Finally, being an only child or having siblings was not significantly related to kindergarten adjustment.

  • An important problem in process adjustment using feedback is how often to sample the process and when to apply an adjustment. Schemes are designed to minimize the overall cost. The cost is taken the frequency with which they require observations to be made, and the resulting overall length of time between adjustments. In this article, the process adjustment which is based on the adaptive EWMA forecasts is derived. An example is presented to improve the standard variation through the analysis of data series.

  • The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate factors influencing college adjustment on nursing freshmen in the distance education during COVID-19. A final sample 165 nursing freshmen was selected from S city, between 31 August and 4 September 2020. Using SPSS program t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed. Factors that influenced college adjustment age, education at the time of admission, motivation of department choice, scholastic achievement. College adjustment showed a positive correlation with academic self-efficacy, critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability. These factors affecting the college adjustment of the subjects were with an explanatory power of 37.7%. Nursing freshmen need to method of class and student guidance that take these factors into account in the distance education during COVID-19.

  • This study examined the direct and indirect influences of parental behavioral control on adolescents' school related adjustment by exploring pathways between parental behavioral control, adolescents' anxiety, and school related adjustment. Participants were composed of 319 high school 1st graders (153 male and 165 female students) from the Seoul area. They completed questionnaires on parental behavioral control, adolescents' anxiety, and adolescents' school related adjustment. The collected data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficients, Factor Analysis, and Structural Equation Modeling. It was adapted to SPSS version 19.0 and Amos version 21.0 for Windows. The results indicated that adolescents' anxiety partially mediated the association of parental behavioral control and adolescents' school related adjustment. More concretely, direct effect of adolescents' anxiety on adolescents' school related adjustment were slightly greater than the direct/indirect effects of parental behavioral control on adolescents' school related adjustment. The effect of adolescents' anxiety on adolescents' school related adjustment was the greatest among all associations between research variables. The findings of this study have implications for research and practice that highlights the important considerations for proper parental behavioral control and reducing adolescents' anxiety that should be emphasized to improve adolescents' school related adjustment. We believe that improved parental behavioral control needs to be emphasized when designing prevention and parent intervention education programs for adolescents' psychological problem and school related adjustment.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the simulation-based cooperation program on self-efficacy, social problem-solving ability and college life adjustment of health college students. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used. Sixty-eight students were in the experimental group receiving the simulation-based cooperation program, and 68 were in the control group with no treatment. Results: There were significant increases in self-efficacy(z=-4.70, p<.001) and college life adjustment(t=2.03, p<.05) in the experimental group compared to the control group. However, there was no difference in the social problem-solving ability (z=-1.87, p=.061) between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the simulation-based cooperation program has a significant effect on improving self-efficacy and college life adjustment in health college students. Thus the simulation-based cooperation program to promote the social problem-solving ability needs to be more developed and research related with cooperation program is further needed.

  • The problem addressed by this study were to explore the effect of hardiness on psychosocial adjustment of persons with a colostomy and to identify factors which influence that psychosocial adjustment. The purpose was to suggest a theoretical base for the planning of supportive nursing interventions to increase the level of adjustment. Among members of the Korea Ostomy Association, 34 subjects who had undergone colostomy from March, 1990 to March, 1991 were selected as the sample. Data were collected from April 8 to May 8, 1991 using a mailed questionnaire. The instruments used for this study were the Health -Related Hardiness Scale(Pollock, 1984) and the Psychosocial Adjustment to illness Scale (Derogatis, 1975). ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepswise Multiple Regression were used for data analysis. The results of the study are summarized as follows. 1. Hardiness was significantly related to psychosocial adjustment(p=0.009). That is, the higher the hardiness, the higher the level of psychosocial adjustment. 2. Among the demographic variables, only economic level was significantly related to the level of psychosocial adjustment. (p=0.005). 3. The important factors influencing the level of psychosocial adjustment of persons with a colostomy were economic level, commitment, challenge (subconcepts of hardiness). Therefore, in order to increase the level of the psychosocial adjustment, it might be helpful to provide them with hardiness training to strengthen their commitment and their challenge.

  • Parallel Genetic Algorithms (GAs) are developed to solve a single machine n-job scheduling problem which is to minimize the sum of absolute deviations of completion times from a common due date. (0, 1) binary scheme is employed to represent the n-job schedule. Two selection methods, best individual selection and simple selection are examined. The effect of crossover operator, due date adjustment mutation and due date adjustment reordering are discussed. The performance of the parallel genetic algorithm is illustrated with some example problems.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing college life adjustment in nursing students. Methods: The subjects consisted of 206 nursing students. Data were collected from December 6 to December 13, 2012. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlational coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS WIN v 20.0. Result: The mean scores of ego-identity ($3.53{\pm}48$), social problem-solving ability ($3.41{\pm}.42$), and college life adjustment ($5.27{\pm}.91$) were above average. College life adjustment was significantly different according to ego-identity, academic performance, and perceived health state. Ego-identity, academic performance, and perceived health state were influencing factors of college life adjustment (53.2%). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an education program to improve ego-identity, academic performance, and perceived health state to help nursing students to adjust to their college life more effectively.
