In the past, a very popular method for reducing the corrosion on zinc involved the use of chemical conversion layer coatings based on $Cr^{+6}$. However, there is an important problem with using chromium salts as a result of restrictive environmental protection legislation. This study investigated the optimum condition for galvanized steel using an organic/inorganic solution with a Ti composition. In the case of a fixed heat treatment time, the corrosion resistance values of LR-0727(1) and LR-0727(2) were improved as the heat treatment temperature increased, and the optimum minimum temperature decreased with the heat treatment time. At the optimum heat treatment condition of two coating solutions, the heat treatment time of the LR-0727(1) solution was shorter than LR-0727(2) for the same heat treatment temperature. LR-0727(1) coated specimens did not show desquamation, and all of the specimens showed a good adhesive property. In contrast, in the case of the LR-0727(2) coated specimens, desquamation arose. Therefore, the adhesive property of LR-0727(1) was superior to that of LR-0727(2). The pencil hardness had a 3H average for all of the coating solutions and heat treatment conditions. In the case of a corrosion resistance test with boiling water, the coated specimens of LR-0727(1) were discolored, but LR-0727(2) was not. Finally, LR-0727(1) was more moisture proof than LR-0727(2).

The effects of thermal cycle conditions on the bonding strength and crack propagation behaviors in electroplated Cr/electroplated Ni-P coatings were systematically evaluated. 1st heat treatment was performed at 500℃ for 3 hours after electroplating Ni-P, and then, 2nd heat treatment was performed at 750℃ for 6 hours after electroplating Cr. The measured bonding strength by ASTM C633 were around 25.6 MPa before thermal cycling, while it increased to 47.6 MPa, after 1,000 cycles. Increasing thermal cycles led to dominant fail mode with cohesive failure inside adhesive, which seemed to be closely related to the increasing bonding strength possibly not only due to higher Cr surface roughness, but also to penetrated channeling crack density. Also, increasing density of penetrated channeling cracks in electroplating Cr layer led to slightly stronger bonding strength due to mechanical interlocking effects of adhesive inside channeling cracks.

The nitride layer was formed on Ti and Ti-10 wt.%Ta-10 wt.%Nb alloy by a plasma nitriding method. Temperature was selected as the main experimental parameter for plasma nitriding. XRD, EDX, and hardness test were employed to analyze the evolution and material properties of the layer. The SEM observation of TiN nitride layer revealed that the thickness of nitride layer tended to increase with increasing temperature. ${\delta}-TiN$, ${\varepsilon}-Ti_{2}N$ and ${\alpha}-Ti$ phases were detected by XRD analysis and the preferred orientation of TiN nitride layer was obviously observed at (220) plane with increasing temperature. From XRD analysis after step polishing the nitride specimens treated at $850^{\circ}C$, as polishing from the surface, TiN and $Ti_{2}N$ phases decreased gradually. After polishing the surface by $4{\um}m$, a small amount of $Ti_{2}N$ and ${\alpha}-Ti$ phases were observed. The adhesive strength test result indicated that adhesive strength increased with increasing temperature.
Objectives: Hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) surface treatment of fiber posts has been reported to increase bond strength of fiber posts to resin cements. However, residual oxygen radicals might jeopardize the bonding procedure. This study examined the effect of three antioxidant agents on the bond strength of fiber posts to conventional and self-adhesive resin cements. Materials and Methods: Post spaces were prepared in forty human maxillary second premolars. Posts were divided into five groups of 8 each: G1 (control), no pre-treatment; G2, 10% $H_2O_2$ pre-treatment; G3, G4 and G5. After $H_2O_2$ application, Hesperidin (HES), Sodium Ascorbate (SA) or Rosmarinic acid (RA) was applied on each group respectively. In each group four posts were cemented with Duo-Link conventional resin cement and the others with self-adhesive BisCem cement. Push-out test was performed and data were analyzed using 2-way ANOVA and tukey's post-hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: There was a statistically significant interaction between the cement type and post surface treatment on push-out bond strength of fiber posts (p < 0.001, F = 16). Also it was shown that different posts' surface treatments significantly affect the push-out bond strength of fiber posts (p = 0.001). $H_2O_2$ treated posts (G2) and control posts (G1) cemented with Duo-link showed the highest ($15.96{\pm}5.07MPa$) and lowest bond strengths ($6.79{\pm}3.94$) respectively. Conclusions: It was concluded that $H_2O_2$ surface treatment might enhance the bond strength of fiber posts cemented with conventional resin cements. The effect of antioxidants as post's surface treatment agents depends on the characteristics of resin cements used for bonding procedure.

The application of an adhesive calcium carbonate-based hybrid insulation board with quasi-combustibility in the external thermal insulation composite system(ETICS) ensures effective thermal performance and fire safety. This study aimed to conduct a mechanical test of the quasi-non-combustible hybrid insulation board as well as its constituent materials to obtain the basic data for the structural design of the adhesive ETICS. Test specimens were fabricated based on domestic and foreign test standards to examine and evaluate their tensile, compressive, flexural, and shear strengths. The strength characteristics of the quasi-non-combustible hybrid insulation board were identified from the test results, which verified that the minimum required physical properties suggested by the current KS M ISO 4898 were met. Furthermore, the quasi-non-combustible ETICS used in this study was found to be suitable for use as an external insulation system for walls unless subjected to continuous gravity load, such as a heavy exterior finish.
In the development of a cryogenic propellant tank, the proper selection of adhesives to bond composite and metal liner is important for the safety of operation. In this study, 3 types of adhesives were tested for the ability to bond CFRP composites developed for cryogenic use and aluminum alloy (Al 6061-T6) for lining the tank using double-lap joint specimens. The double-lap joint specimens were tested inside an environmental chamber at room temperature and cryogenic temperature ($-150^{\circ}C$) respectively to compare the bond strength of each adhesive and fracture characteristics. The material properties with temperature of component materials of double-lap joints were measured. In addition, ABAQUS was used for the purpose of analyzing the experimental results.
Pyrotechnic separation devices have been widely used as holding and release mechanism for deployable appendage. However, pyro-shock can cause temporal or permanent damage on shock sensitive components such as electronics, mechanism, and brittle components. This study proposed a low-stiffness blade based passive shock absorber using a multi-layered stiffener laminated with viscoelastic acrylic tapes for reducing transmitted pyro-shock upon explosion of pyrotechnic separation devices. The multi-layered structure with viscoelastic tape has high-damping characteristics to effectively secure structural integrity of low-stiffness blades under the launch environment. The design effectiveness was verified through a shock test by dropping a pendulum. The structural integrity of the shock absorber under a launch environment was evaluated through structural analysis under load conditions with a deployable payload.

Wedge locks have been widely used for spaceborne electronics for mounting or removal of a printed circuit board (PCB) during integration, test and maintenance process. However, it can basically provide a mechanical constraint on the edge of the board. Thus, securing a fatigue life of solder joint for electronic package by limiting board deflection becomes difficult as the board size increases. Previously, additional stiffeners have been applied to reduce the board deflection, but the mass and volume increases of electronics are unavoidable. To overcome the aforementioned limitation, we proposed an application of multi-layered PCB sheet with viscoelastic adhesive tapes to implement high-damping capability on the board. Thus, it is more advantageous in securing the fatigue life of package under launch environment compared with the previous approach. The basic characteristics of the PCB with the multi-layered sheet was investigated through free-vibration tests at various temperatures. The effectiveness of the proposed design was validated through launch vibration test at qualification level and fatigue life prediction of electronic package based on the test results.
Oocyte surface in two Korean minnows, Rhynchocypris oxycephalus and R. kumgangensis was examined by light and electron microscope. In two species, the development of the oocyte was similar, but the follicular layer surrounding full-grown oocyte showed an evident difference. In R. oxycephalus, the follicular layer at the yolk vesicle stage became bilaminar with the retention of its outer squamous cell layer and the acquisition of an inner cuboidal or round cell layer just over the zona radiata. As the oocyte grows, the cuboidal cells of the inner follicular layer began to be replaced by columnar cells. At the yolk granule stage, the columnar cells secreted mucin to their cytoplasm (adhesive materials) and then surround the entire oocyte, as bundles of fence-shaped structures. Whereas, although the follicular layer of R. kumgangensis had an outer squamous layer and an inner cuboidal or round cell layer at the yolk vesicles as in R. oxycephalus, no inner cells were more changed with the retention of its cuboidal or round cells. Finally, in R. kumgangensis, the adhesive materials did not occur. In Korean two minnows, the structural difference in the oocyte surface seems to be related to their habitats and spawning characteristics as well as taxonomic characters.
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the biocompatibility and barrier function of mussel adhesive protein (MAP)-loaded collagen membranes in guided bone regeneration (GBR). Methods: Eight male New Zealand white rabbits were used. Four circular defects (diameter: 8 mm) were created in the calvarium of each animal. The defects were randomly assigned to 1) a negative control group, 2) a cyanoacrylate (CA)-loaded collagen membrane group (the CA group), 3) a MAP-loaded collagen membrane group (the MAP group), and 4) a group that received a polycaprolactone block with MAP-loaded collagen membrane (the MAP-PCL group). Specimens were harvested at 2 weeks (n=4) and 8 weeks (n=4) postoperatively for observational histology and histometric analysis. Results: In the histologic analysis, MAP was completely absorbed without any byproducts. In contrast, some of the CA adhesive remained, showing an inflammatory reaction, at 8 weeks. In the MAP-PCL group, the MAP-loaded collagen membranes served as a barrier membrane despite their fast degradation in GBR. No significant difference was found in the amount of new bone between the MAP-PCL and MAP groups ($1.82{\pm}0.86mm^2$ and $2.60{\pm}0.65mm^2$, respectively). Conclusions: The MAP-loaded collagen membrane functioned efficiently in this rabbit calvarial GBR model, with excellent biocompatibility. Further research is needed to assess clinical applications in defect types that are more challenging for GBR than those used in the current model.
