  • In this paper, a selective coefficient updating (SCU) approach at each branch of the per-tone equalization (PTEQ) structure has been applied for insufficient cyclic prefix (CP) length. Because of the high number of adaptive filters and their complex adaption process in the PTEQ structure, SCU has been proposed. Using this method leads to a reduction in the computational complexity, while the performance remains almost unchanged. Moreover, the use of set-membership filtering with variable step size is proposed for a sufficient CP case to increase convergence speed and decrease the average number of calculations. Simulation results show that despite the aforementioned algorithms having similar performance in comparison with conventional algorithms, they are able to reduce the number of calculations necessary. In addition, compensation of both the channel effect and the transmitter/receiver in-phase/quadrature-phase imbalances are achievable by these algorithms.

  • This paper presents an adaptive algorithm to generate a near-optimal closed-loop solution for a non-zero sum differential game by periodically updating the solutions of the two-point boundary-value problem. Applications to competitive advertising problem show that the adaptive algorithm can be used as an efficient tool to solve the differential game problem in which one player may take advantage of the other's non-optimal play.

  • A new implementation method for MPDSAP(Maximally Polyphase Decomposed Subband Affine Projection) adaptive filter is proposed. The affine projection(AP) adaptive filter achieves fast convergence speed, however, its implementation is so expensive because of the matrix inversion for a weight-updating of adaptive filter. The maximally polyphase decomposed subband filtering allows the AP adaptive filter to avoid the matrix inversion, moreover, by using a pipelining technique, the simple subband structured AP is suitable for VLSI implementations concerning throughput, power dissipation and area. Computer simulations are presented to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, an adaptive beamforming algorithm, based on the Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) criterion, is devised fer adaptive antenna applied to an MC-CDMA system. A new method for updating the weight vector is derived. Computer simulations show that proposed algorithm is capable of rejecting co-channel interference that affects the MC-CDMA system. Thus, the BER performance of the MC-CDMA system is improved compared with that of the MC-CDMA system without using adaptive antenna and that of the DS-CDMA system with adaptive antenna in multi-path Ricean fading channel.

  • This paper presents implementation of the adaptive neuro-fuzzy control method. Control performance of the adaptive neuro-fuzzy control method for a popular inverted pendulum system is evaluated. The inverted pendulum system is designed and built as an education kit for educational purpose for engineering students. The educational kit is specially used for intelligent control education. Control purpose is to satisfy balancing angle and desired trajectory tracking performance. The adaptive neuro-fuzzy controller has the Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy structure. Back-propagation algorithm is used for updating weights in the fuzzy control. Control performances of the inverted pendulum system by PID control method and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy control method are compared. Control hardware of a DSP 2812 board is used to achieve the real-time control performance. Experimental studies are conducted to show successful control performances of the inverted pendulum system by the adaptive neuro-fuzzy control method.

  • Under the condition of a common narrowband target signal and interference signals from several directions, the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) method using the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) for adaptive beamforming has been exploited successfully However, in the case of wideband signals, the length of the adaptive filter must be extended. As a result, the complexity of the beamformer increases, which makes real-time implementation difficult. In this paper, we improve the convergence characteristics of the adaptive filter using the transform domain normalized least mean square (NLMS) approach based on the subband GSC structure without the increase of complexity. Besides, the M-MAX algorithm, which is one of various selective coefficient updating methods, is employed in order to remarkably reduce the computational cost without decreasing the convergence quality. With the combination of these methods, we propose a computationally efficient wideband adaptive beamformer and verify its efficiency through a series of simulations.

  • This paper relates with the Hybrid-SMMA adaptive equalization algorithm that is possible to improve the equalization performance based on adaptive modulus and adaptive stepsize which is propotional to the output power of equalizer in the current SMMA (Sliced Multi Modulus Algorithm). The fixed statistic modulus of transmitted signal is used in current SMMA algorithm in order to generate the error signal for updating the tap coefficient of equalizer. The proposed Hybrid-SMMA based on the adaptive modulus which is propotion to the equalizer output signal power and adaptive stepsize which is fuction of the nonlinearties of error signal. The computer simulation was performed in order to confirm the improved equalization performance of proposed algorithm. As a result of computer simulation, the proposed Hybrid-SMMA has fairly good in every performance than the current SMMA.

  • As the world is trying to establish smart city, unmanned vehicle control systems are being widely used. This paper writes about an unmanned parking control system that uses an adaptive background image modeling method, suggesting the method of updating the background image, modeled with an adaptive Gaussian mixture model, in both global and local way according to the moving object. Specifically, this paper focuses on suggesting two methods; a method of minimizing the influence of a moving object on a background image and a method of accurately updating the background image by quickly removing afterimages of moving objects within the area of interest to be monitored. In this paper, through the implementation of the unmanned vehicle control system, we proved that the proposed system can quickly and accurately distinguish both moving and static objects such as vehicles from the background image.

  • The present work is concerned with the development of a procedure for adaptive computations of shear localization problems. The maximum jump of equivalent strain rates across element boundaries is proposed as a simple error indicator based on interpolation errors, and successfully implemented in the adaptive mesh refinement scheme. The time step is controlled by using a parameter related to the Lipschitz constant, and state variables in target elements for refinements are transferred by $L_2$-projection. Consistent tangent moduli with a proper updating scheme for state variables are used to improve the numerical stability in the formation of shear bands. It is observed that the present adaptive mesh refinement procedure shows an excellent performance in the simulation of shear localization problems.

  • This paper reports a technique for discriminating double talk and echo path change using the stochastic characteristics of power change for an adaptive noise canceller. The causes of rapid error increasing are double talk and echo path change. When the echo path is changed, the system corrects the impulse response in order to reduce the error. However, in the case of double talk, the system has to suspend the updating impulse response in order to maintain the quality of the voice signal. In the conventional system, it was difficult to discriminate between the two situations. In this research, the stochastic characteristics of the voice power change in the double talk period were experimentally verified to be different from the power change during echo path changing. Based on the results, a new double talk detection method is proposed.
