Edge detection is the first step and very important step in image analysis. We cast edge detec¬tion as a problem in cost maximization. This is acheived by the formulation of a cost function that evaluates the quality of edge configurations. The cost function can be used as a basis for compar¬ing the performances of different detectors. We used a Genetic Algorithm for maximizing cost func¬tion. Genetic algorithms are a class of adaptive search techniques that have been intensively stud¬ied in recent years and have been prone to converge prematurely before the best solution has been found. This paper shows that carefully chosen modifications(three factors of the crossover opera¬tor) are implemented can be effective in alleviating this problem.
Assessment of failure probability, especially for a complex structure, requires a considerable number of calls to the numerical model. Reliability methods have been developed to decrease the computational time. In this approach, the original numerical model is replaced by a surrogate model which is usually explicit and much faster to evaluate. The current paper proposed an efficient reliability method based on Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) and multi-gene genetic programming (MGGP) as a robust variant of genetic programming (GP). GP has been applied in different fields; however, its application to structural reliability has not been tested. The current study investigated the performance of MGGP as a surrogate model in structural reliability problems and compares it with other surrogate models. An adaptive Metropolis algorithm is utilized to obtain the training data with which to build the MGGP model. The failure probability is estimated by combining MCS and MGGP. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method were investigated with the help of five numerical examples.
Scheduling is an important tool for a manufacturing system, where it can have a major impact on the productivity of a production process. In manufacturing systems, the purpose of scheduling is to minimize the production time and costs, by assigning a production facility when to make, with which staff, and on which equipment. Production scheduling aims to maximize the efficiency of the operation and reduce the costs. In order to find an optimal solution to manufacturing scheduling problems, it attempts to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems. Unfortunately, most of them fall into the class of NP-hard combinatorial problems. Genetic algorithm (GA) is one of the generic population-based metaheuristic optimization algorithms and the best one for finding a satisfactory solution in an acceptable time for the NP-hard scheduling problems. GA is the most popular type of evolutionary algorithm. In this survey paper, we address firstly multiobjective hybrid GA combined with adaptive fuzzy logic controller which gives fitness assignment mechanism and performance measures for solving multiple objective optimization problems, and four crucial issues in the manufacturing scheduling including a mathematical model, GA-based solution method and case study in flexible job-shop scheduling problem (fJSP), automatic guided vehicle (AGV) dispatching models in flexible manufacturing system (FMS) combined with priority-based GA, recent advanced planning and scheduling (APS) models and integrated systems for manufacturing.

The knapsack problem (KP) is one of the traditional optimization problems. Specially, multiconstrained knapsack problem (MKP) is well-known NP-hard problem. Many heuristic algorithms and evolutionary algorithms have tackled this problem and shown good performance. This paper presents a novel genetic algorithm for the multiconstrained knapsack problem. The proposed algorithm is called 'Adaptive Link Adjustment'. It is based on integer random key representation and uses additional ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$-process as well as selection, crossover and mutation. The experiment results show that it can be archive good performance.
This paper presents a new approach with artificial immune system algorithm to solve the profit based unit commitment problem. The objective of this work is to find the optimal generation scheduling and to maximize the profit of generation companies (Gencos) when subjected to various constraints such as power balance, spinning reserve, minimum up/down time and ramp rate limits. The proposed hybrid method is developed through adaptive search which is inspired from artificial immune system and genetic algorithm to carry out profit maximization of generation companies. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been tested for different Gencos consists of 3, 10 and 36 generating units and the results are compared with the existing methods.

This paper presents to create a SAC(Sectional Area Curve) using an ANFIS(Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System). First, it defines SACs of parent ships by using a B-spline approximation and a genetic algorithm and accumulates a database about SAC's control points. Second, it learns an ANFIS from parent ship data, which are related with principal dimensions and SAC's control points. This process is to model an ANFIS for SAC inferreice. When an ANFIS modeling is completed, we can determine a SAC through an ANFIS inferring.
This paper is concerned with the real-time automatic tuning of the multi-input multi-output positive position feedback controllers for smart structures by the genetic algorithms. The genetic algorithms have proven its effectiveness in searching optimal design parameters without falling into local minimums thus rendering globally optimal solutions. The previous real-time algorithm that tunes a single control parameter is extended to tune more parameters of the MIMO PPF controller. We employ the MIMO PPF controller since it can enhance the damping value of a target mode without affecting other modes if tuned properly. Hence, the traditional positive position feedback controller can be used in adaptive fashion in real time. The final form of the MIMO PPF controller results in the centralized control, thus it involves many parameters. The bounds of the control Parameters are estimated from the theoretical model to guarantee the stability. As in the previous research, the digital MIMO PPF control law is downloaded to the DSP chip and a main program, which runs genetic algorithms in real time, updates the parameters of the controller in real time. The experimental frequency response results show that the MIMO PPF controller tuned by GA gives better performance than the theoretically designed PPF. The time response also shows that the GA tuned MIMO PPF controller can suppress vibrations very well.
The main contribution of the present paper is to propose an intelligent fuzzy inference system approach for modeling the debonding strength of masonry elements retrofitted with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP). To achieve this, the hybrid of meta-heuristic optimization methods and adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is implemented. In this study, particle swarm optimization with passive congregation (PSOPC) and real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) are used to determine the best parameters of ANFIS from which better bond strength models in terms of modeling accuracy can be generated. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed PSOPC-ANFIS and RCGA-ANFIS approaches, the numerical results are compared based on a database from laboratory testing results of 109 sub-assemblages. The statistical evaluation results demonstrate that PSOPC-ANFIS in comparison with ANFIS-RCGA considerably enhances the accuracy of the ANFIS approach. Furthermore, the comparison between the proposed approaches and other soft computing methods indicate that the approaches can effectively predict the debonding strength and that their modeling results outperform those based on the other methods.

In hard real-time systems, a timing fault may yield catastrophic results. Dynamic scheduling provides the flexibility to compensate for unexpected events at runtime; however, scheduling overhead at runtime is relatively large, constraining both the accuracy of the timing and the complexity of the scheduling analysis. In contrast, static scheduling need not have any runtime overhead. Thus, it has the potential to guarantee the precise time at which each instruction implementing a control action will execute. This paper presents a new approach to the problem of analyzing high-level language code, augmented by arbitrary before and after timing constraints, to provide a valid static schedule. Our technique is based on instruction-level complier code scheduling and timing analysis, and can ensure the timing of control operations to within a single instruction clock cycle. Because the search space for a valid static schedule is very large, a novel adaptive genetic search algorithm was developed.

A shared tuned mass damper (STMD) was proposed in previous research for reduction of dynamic responses of the adjacent buildings subjected to earthquake loads. A single STMD can provide similar control performance in comparison with two traditional TMDs. In previous research, a passive damper was used to connect the STMD with adjacent buildings. In this study, a smart magnetorheological (MR) damper was used instead of a passive damper to compose an adaptive smart STMD (ASTMD). Control performance of the ASTMD was investigated by numerical analyses. For this purpose, two 8-story buildings were used as example structures. Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) fuzzy logic controller (FLC) was used to control the command voltages sent to two MR dampers. The MIMO FLC was optimized by a multi-objective genetic algorithm. Numerical analyses showed that the ASTMD can effectively control dynamic responses of adjacent buildings subjected to earthquake excitations in comparison with a passive STMD.
