  • During the transmission process of processing of image, various noises are added causing an error to the image. In order to restore these images, methods such as alpha trimmed average filter, standard median filter and switching median filter were proposed but such previous methods has insufficient noise suppression characteristics. Therefore in this paper, in order to remove the impulse noise added to the image, an adaptive median filter algorithm modified to expand the mask according to the noise density of mask pixels was proposed.

  • This paper describes a new two-dimensional adaptive lattice algorithm which determines reflection coefficients recursively by applying the gradient search technique to a two-dimensional lattice filter proposed by Parker and Kayran. The convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm are also described. A new tow-dimensional adaptive lattice \ulcorneralgorithm has been obtained through the application of the \ulcorneralgorithm to the two-dimention adaptive lattice algorithm. Computer simulation proves that the convergence speed of the two-dimension adaptive lattice \ulcorneralgorithm is reladtively higher than that of the conventional adaptive lattice algorithm when \ulcornerhas a small value.

  • This research is concerned with the development of a real-time adaptive PPF controller for the active vibration suppression of smart structure. In general, the tuning of the PPF controller is carried out off-line. In this research, the real-time learning algorithm is developed to find the optimal filter frequency of the PPF controller in real time and the efficacy of the algorithm is proved by implementing it in real time. To this end, the adaptive algorithm is developed by applying the gradient descent method to the predefined performance index, which is similar to the method used popularly in the optimization and neural network controller design. The experiment was carried out to verify the validity of the adaptive PPF controller developed in this research. The experimental results showed that adaptive PPF controller is effective for active vibration control of the structure which is excited by either impact or harmonic disturbance. The filter frequency of the PPF controller is tuned in a very short period of time thus proving the efficiency of the adaptive PPF controller.

  • Magneto-cardiogram(MCG) signals may be highly distorted by the environmental noise, such as power-line interference, broadband white noise, surrounding magnetic noise, and baseline wondering. Several kinds of digital filters and noise cancellation methods have been designed and realized by many researchers, but these methods gave some problems that the original signal may be distorted by digital filter due to the wideband characteristics of background noise. To eliminate noise effectively without distortion of MCG signals, we performed multi-level frequency decomposition using wavelet packets and local adaptive noise cancellation in each local frequency range. In addition to the proposed wavelet filter to eliminate these various non-stationary noise elements, the local adaptive filter using the least mean square(LMS) algorithm and the soft threshold do-noising method are introduced in this paper. The signal to noise ratio(SNR) and the reconstruction square error(RSE) are calculated to evaluate the performance of the proposed method and compared with the results of the conventional wavelet filter and adaptive filter. The experimental results show that the proposed local adaptive filtering method is better than the conventional methods.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the structure of the IMADF(improved modified multiplication-free adaptive filter) to cancel the adaptive noise in biomedical signals. The IMADF structure use the one-step predicted filter in the multiplication-free adaptive digital filter(MADF) structure using the DPCM and Sign algorithm. And then we use the heart phantom model based on the magnetocardiographic (MCG) to test the biomedical signals and analyze the signal of it. Their functions of the heart phantom occur from the multidipole current source. This can play role the same in the real function of the human heart to study it. In the experimental results, the IMADF algorithm has reduced the computational complexity by use of only the addition operation without a multiplier. Also, under the condition of identical stationary-state error, it could obtain the stabled convergence characteristics that the IMADF algorithm is almost same as the sign algorithm, but is better than the MADF algorithm. Here, this algorithm has effective characteristics when the correlation of the input signal is highly.

  • A new estimationn mothod of single-EP(evoked potential) using adaptive algorithm and paralnetrlc model is proposed. Since the EEG(eletroencephalogram) signal is stationary in short time interval the AR(autoregressive) parameters of the EEG are estimated by the Burg algorithm using the EEG of prestimulus interval. After stimulus, the single-EP is estimated by adaptive algorithm. The validity of this method is verified by the simulation for generated auditory single-EP based on parametric model.

  • The convergence of adaptive algorithm depends mainly on the proper choice of the design factor called the covergence factor. In the paper, an optimal convergence factor involved in TRLMS algorithm, which is used to predict the coefficients of the ARMA predictor in ADPCM is presented. It is shown that such an optimal value can be generated by system signals such that the adaptive filter becomes self optimizing in terms of the convergence factor. This algorithm is applied to real image.

  • An adaptive algorithm for the acoustic echo canceller is presented. This paper proposes a modified LMS algorithm for the adaptive filter and applys the algorithm to he acoustic echo canceller, An objective of the proposed algorithm is to reduce the hardware complexity. In order to est the performances, a model of the echo path is established, and a program is described. The impulse reponses of the echo path have the length of 125msec or ore, and then the FIR filter with 1000 taps is required. he results from simulations show that the acoustic echo canceller adopting the proposed algorithm achieves the ERLE of 25dB or more within 1sec. If an echo canceller is implemented with this algorithm, its computation quantity s reduced to two times less than the one that is implemented with the normal LMS algorithm, without the degradation of performances.

  • In this paper, an adaptive temporal and spatial filter (ATSF) based on mean square error (MSE) estimation is proposed. ATSF is a block based de-noising algorithm. Each noisy block is selectively filtered by a temporal filter or a spatial filter. Multi-hypothesis motion compensated filter (MHMCF) and bilateral filter are chosen as the temporal filter and the spatial filter, respectively. Although there is no original video, we mathematically derivate a formular to estimate the real MSE between a block de-noised by MHMCF and its original block and a linear model is proposed to estimate the real MSE between a block de-noised by bilateral filter and its original block. Finally, each noisy block is processed by the filter with a smaller estimated MSE. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm achieves substantial improvements in terms of both visual quality and PSNR as compared with the conventional de-noising algorithms.
