Calcium-activated chloride channels: a new target to control the spiking pattern of neurons

  • The nature of encoded information in neural circuits is determined by neuronal firing patterns and frequencies. This paper discusses the molecular identity and cellular mechanisms of spike-frequency adaptation in the central nervous system (CNS). Spike-frequency adaptation in thalamocortical (TC) and CA1 hippocampal neurons is mediated by the $Ca^{2+}$-activated $Cl^-$ channel (CACC) anoctamin-2 (ANO2). Knockdown of ANO2 in these neurons results in increased number of spikes, in conjunction with significantly reduced spike-frequency adaptation. No study has so far demonstrated that CACCs mediate afterhyperpolarization currents, which result in the modulation of neuronal spike patterns in the CNS. Our study therefore proposes a novel role for ANO2 in spike-frequency adaptation and transmission of information in the brain.

간호대학생의 감성지능, 의사소통능력, 대인관계유능성이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Emotional Intelligence, Communication Competence, and Interpersonal Competence on Adaptation to College Life in Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 감성지능, 의사소통능력, 대인관계유능성 및 대학생활적응 간 관계를 파악하고 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 시도된 서술적 조사연구이다. 연구대상자는 G광역시 소재 대학의 간호학과에 재학 중인 학생 173명으로, 자료수집은 자가보고식 설문지를 이용하여 2022년 9월 10일에서 10월 10일까지 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 25.0 program을 이용하여 기술적 통계, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, 다중회귀분석을 시행하였다. 연구결과 대학생활적응은 감성지능(r=.760, p<.001), 의사소통능력(r=.600, p<.001), 대인관계유능성(r=.451, p<.001)과 유의한 상관관계를 보였다. 대학생활적응에 영향요인은 감성지능(𝛽=.543, p<.001), 의사소통능력(𝛽=.433, p=.001), 대인관계유능성(𝛽=.283, p<.031)으로 대학생활적응에 대한 총 설명력은 59.9%였다. 따라서 간호대학생의 감성지능과 의사소통능력을 함양하고 대인관계유능성 향상을 돕는 교육프로그램을 개발하고 간호교육과정 동안 지속적으로 제공함으로서 대학생활적응력을 높일 수 있는 전략이 필요하다.

다운증후군 자녀를 둔 가족의 적응력: 혼합적 연구 방법 적용 (Adaptation in Families of Children with Down Syndrome: A Mixed-methods Design)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study, which was guided by the Resiliency Model of Family Stress, Adjustment, and Adaptation, was twofold: (a) to explore family and parental adaptation and factors influencing family adaptation in Korean families of children with Down syndrome (DS) through a quantitative methodology and (b) to understand the life with a Korean child with DS through a qualitative method. Methods: A mixed-methods design was adopted. A total of 147 parents of children with DS completed a package of questionnaires, and 19 parents participated in the in-depth interviews. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression and content analysis respectively. Results: According to the quantitative data, the overall family adaptation scores indicated average family functioning. Financial status was an important variable in understanding both family and parental adaptation. Family adaptation was best explained by family problem solving and coping communication, condition management ability, and family hardiness. Family strains and family hardiness were the family factors with the most influence on parental adaption. Qualitative data analysis showed that family life with a child with DS encompassed both positive and negative aspects and was expressed with 5 themes, 10 categories, and 16 sub-categories. Conclusion: Results of this study expand our limited knowledge and understanding concerning families of children with DS in Korea and can be used to develop effective interventions to improve the adaptation of family as a unit as well as parental adaptation.

대학생의 자기계발프로그램이 대학생활 적응 및 스트레스 대처방식에 미치는 효과 (The effects of university students' self-development program on students adaptation to college and stress coping methods)

  • The purpose of this study is to plan out a university students' self-development program and to verify the effect of the students in adapting themselves to college life and coping with stress from it. The program was developed as the liberal arts course for a semester and comprised 12 sessions. Each secession of a 150 minutes workshop program. The pre-test, post test regarding students adaptation to college and stress coping methods conducts upon each experimental group and each control group. Each group consisted of 50 subjects. As a result of this research, this study could come to the following conclusions. Firstly, it was found that the university students' self-development program has effect on improving students adaptation to college. Secondly, it was found that the university students' self-development program has effect on improving stress coping methods.

자궁경부암 여성의 삶의 적응에 관한 근거이론적 접근 (A Grounded-theory Approach to the Process of Life Adaptation in Women with Cervical Cancer)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the process of life adaptation in women with cervical cancer. Method: A grounded theory method with guided data collection and analysis was used. Fifteen women with cervical cancer who had some kind of treatment at the hospital were asked open-ended and descriptive questions with a guideline. All interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Result: The core category that emerged from the comparative analysis was "overcoming cancer" named as a process of life adaptation in the participants. The process of overcoming cancer evolved three stages - "admitting reality", "attempting health-care" and "continuing health-care". Depending on the paradigm model, the central phenomena of the experiences was "powerlessness". The internal factors motivating women to overcome cancer were "denial of cancer" and "desire for life". Strategies of overcoming cancer included "living as a cancer patient," "selective food eating," "steady exercising," "getting rid of stress," and "preparing for death". The intervening conditions, "supportive system," "forms of life," and "burden on family," influenced overcoming cancer. Conclusion: The results of this study could help clinical nurses to understand life adaptation in cervical cancer patients and establish efficient coping strategies in dealing with the problems they face.

대학교 신입생의 개별성 및 관계성이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Individuality and Relationship of University Freshman on College Life Adaptation)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대학교 신입생들의 개별성 및 관계성이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써 대학생활의 적응력을 높이기 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 있다. 연구대상은 충북 C시에 소재한 대학교에 재학 중인 1학년 신입생 383명을 대상으로 하였으며 영향요인을 살펴보기 위해 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구결과 첫째, 일반적 특성에 따른 차이에서 성별은 남학생들이 개별성이 더 높게 나타났으며, 성격은 외향적 학생들이 관계성이 더 높게 나타났다. 전공계열에서는 인문사회계열 학생들은 관계성이, 자연공학계열 학생들은 개별성이 더 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 대학생의 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는 하위요인은 개별성에서는 자율성, 관계성에서는 친화성과 친밀성이 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 자율성이 대학생활적응에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 근거로 정책제언을 하면 첫째, 개별성 및 관계성의 조화와 균형이 필요하다. 둘째, 자신이 스스로 선택할 수 있는 활동 및 학습 환경 조성이 필요하다. 셋째, 학과행사, 동아리활동 등 친화성 및 친밀성 증진을 위한 프로그램 개발이 필요하다. 넷째, 개별성 및 관계성 증진을 위해 면대면 접촉을 통한 정서 심리적 프로그램 지원이 활성화 되어야 할 것이다.

신규간호사의 수면 적응 경험 (Adaptation Experience of Sleep in New Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study is a qualitative research to identify new nurses' adaptation experience to sleep changes. Method: Grounded theory methodology was utilized. Participants were 10 new nurses from one university hospital. The information was collected and analyzed using the grounded theory of Corbin and Strauss'(2008). Results: Through constant comparative analysis, central phenomenon was identified as 'Shaky daily life due to the sleep change'. A core category emerged as 'In the shaky daily life, go grab my position', Causal conditions were 'Heaviness in shift work', 'Not released after getting off work', and 'Body and mind are exhausted'. Context were 'An environment that does not tolerate mistakes' and 'Clogged breathing due to worries'. Intervening factors were 'Support of colleagues', 'Recovery volition in restoration of altered relationships due to sleep'. Action/Interaction Strategies were 'To strive for a good sleep', 'Require a reasonable duty schedule' and 'Find a breakthrough'. Consequences were 'Become the master of shaky daily life' and 'Accepting the life of a nurse'. Conclusion: New nurses experience sleep patterns changes from the hospital shift system. but throughout the process of adaptation, came to accept sleep disorder as part of the life of a nurse.

  • This paper is a basic study of college of engineering freshmen's adaptation to college life, and the relationship between sub-variables of academic self-efficacy, learning immersion, and academic curiosity is analyzed. And based on the results, a plan to support new students of the College of engineering is suggested.

임상실습교육 전 간호대학생의 전공만족도, 대학생활 적응 및 간호사 이미지의 관계 (The Relationship between Nursing College Student's Major Satisfaction, Adjustment to College Life and Nurse's Image Nursing Students before Clinical Practical Education)

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to check the effect on nursing college students' major satisfaction, adjustment to college life and nurse's image nursing students before clinical practical education. Methods : The study surveyed 209 college students majoring in nursing science in the city of B for the period of April through May 2022. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 to determine the frequency, percentage ratio, average, and standard deviation. Statistical analyses included the t-test, analysis of variance, pearson's correlation coefficients. Results : As a result of this study, the average degree of satisfaction with majors was 3.88±.50, the average of college life adaptation was 3.26±.47, and the average of the nurse image was 3.90±.51. The major satisfaction according to the general characteristics of the study subjects showed a statistically significant difference in the motive for choosing a department (F=3.70, p=.003) and the thought of a nursing job (F=2.95, p=.004). The adjustment to college life according to the general characteristics of the study subjects showed a statistically significant difference in grade (F=3.50, p=.001), department selection motivation (F=2.69, p=.022) showed a statistically significant difference. The nurse image showed a statistically significant difference in residence type (F=6.00, p=.001) and nursing job thinking (F=2.11, p=.036). The correlation between the variables of the study subjects showed that major satisfaction was found to have a positive correlation with adjustment college life (r=.51, p<.001) and nurse image (r=.54, p<.001). It was found that adjustment college life had a positive correlation with the nurse image (r=.32, p<.001). Conclusion : The higher the degree of satisfaction with the major of nursing students prior to clinical practice education, the higher the degree of adaptation to college life. It is need to intervention studies that can improve the image of positive nursing.

대학생의 신체활동량에 따른 전공만족도와 대학생활적응과의 관계 (The relationship between major satisfaction and adjustment following physical activity level of university students)

  • 본 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 신체활동량에 따른 전공만족도와 대학생활적응과의 관계를 규명하는데 목적이 있다. 따라서 대학생 201명의 데이터를 확보하고, SPSS 22.0프로그램을 이용하여 기술통계분석, 신뢰도분석, 일원변량분석, 상관분석, 사후검증으로는 Tukey방법을 실시하였다. 분석결과는 첫째, 신체활동량에 따른 대학생의 전공만족도는 중강도신체활동집단과 고강도신체활동집단이 저강도신체활동집단 보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<.05). 둘째, 신체활동량에 따른 대학생활적응은 고강도 신체활동집단이 중강도신체활동집단과 저강도신체활동집단보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<.05). 마지막으로 대학생의 신체활동량, 전공만족도, 대학생활적응의 관계를 살펴본 결과 남학생의 경우 신체활동량과 전공만족도(일반만족), 대학생활적응(정서적응)에서 정적상관관계가 있고, 여학생의 경우 신체활동량과 대학생활적응(사회적응)에서 정적상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다(p<.05). 본 연구에서는 대학생의 신체활동량은 전공만족도와 대학생활적응과 관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 이와 같은 결론을 토대로 신체활동을 통해 대학생의 대학생활 관리를 도울 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
