Objectives : Teaching the standardized acupuncture point locations and improving the accuracy of acupoint locations through objective evaluation is a very important part of Korean medicine education. The aim of this study is to develop a dummy system for evaluation and support of teaching acupoint location in meridian and acupoints classes and to introduce the developed system. Methods : We established a protocol for the development of the system. The protocol included definition of usage purpose, definition of its essential performance, and set of scope. The system compares the amount of light at the target acupoint with the amount of light at the other sites to determine whether the target acupoint is properly specificated. Results : A prototype of the system was built according to the protocol and consists of light emitter, dummy, control/operation, input part and output part. The light emitter projects laser beam passing through the skin of the dummy. Light sensors were attached inside the acupoints of the dummy. Three types of light sensors were selected depending on the location of the acupoints. The arithmetic, input, and output parts were constructed using Arduino and Raspberry pi boards. The developed system was applied in class. Conclusions : It is thought that the dummy system for evaluation and support of teaching acupoint location can be used as a training model in order to help teach standardized acupoint locations and objective evaluation.
Through articles published in the 『Seungjeongwon Ilgi』, the following conclusions were obtained by analyzing how the Joseon royal family used Asi-acupoint therapy. Various Asi-acupoints were used in the Joseon royal family to treat diseases; King Sukjong was the king who was treated the most with Asi-acupoint therapy, followed by King Yeongjo, King Hyeonjong, King Hyojong and King Injo. The body parts with the most Asi-acupoint therapy are lower extremities, followed by interbody, upper extremities, other parts, and head. Asi-acupoint therapy was treated evenly throughout the body. The most common disease using Asi-acupoint therapy is pain, followed by abscesses, other symptom, internal damage, and external infections. When Asi-accupoint was executed, the ratio of acupunture and moxiubustion was 65:35, indicating that acupuncture was somewhat frequently used.
Objectives : The acupuncture has been used as treatment of disease in the oriental medicine. In this study, it was investigated at had an effects of Heart JEONGGYEOK(心正格) of SAAM five evolutive phase acupuncture techniques(舍岩五行鑛法) for appling deficiency in the heart induced by experimental focal ischemia. Materials and methods : The focal ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion for 2hours. The groups divided into 6 groups, normal(intactness group), control(no therapy group after ischemia-induced), AT1(reinforcing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9 after ischemia-induced), AT2(reinforcing acupoint of Kidney JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LU8, KI7 after ischemia-induced) AT3(combination of reinforcing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK and Kidney JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9, LU8, KI7 after ischemia-induced) AT4(reinforcing and reducing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9, HT3, KI10 after ischemia-induced), AT4(reinforcing and reducing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LRI, HT9, HT3, KI10 after ischemia-induced). Acupuncture therapy was carried out during 3 weeks after focal ischemia-induced. Eight-arm radial maze was used for the behavioral task and neuropretective effect of acupuncture therapy was observed by Cresyl violet, AchE, ChAT-stain. Results : The error rate in the eight-arm radial maze task was significantly decreased in AT3 group on 3days, in AT1 and AT4 groups on 4days, in AT3 and AT4 groups on 5days compared to the control group. The rate of correct choice was significantly increased AT4 group compared to the control group. The density of neurons in the hippocampal CA1 were significantly increased in all experiment groups, AT1, AT2, AT3 and AT4 groups compared to the control group. The density of AchE in the hippocampal CA1 was significantly increased in AT4 group compared to the control group. The density of ChAT in the hippocampal CA1 were significantly increased in AT1 and AT3 group compared to the control group. Conclusions : These results suggest that reinforcing and reducing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK could be used as a medication for controlling the stroke by deficiency in the heart.
Objectives : The purpose on this study is to show the clinical effects of oriental medical treatments for labral tear. Methods : The patients were treated using acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medication, moxibustion, physical treatment and cupping treatment. And the effects for labrum tear have measured in VAS, ROM of shoulder joint. Results : VAS of shoulder pain went down to 2 in case 1, 4 in case 2. ROM of shoulder joint was improved. Conclusions : From the above results, It is demonstrated that oriental medical treatments is effective on labral tear.
Objectives : This study aims to show the rationale of point-selection with regard to acupuncture and moxibustion as described in the Hand section(the Oehyeong chapter) of Dong Ui Bo Gam. Methods : First, the cause of each disease in the Hand section(the Oehyeong chapter) of Dong Ui Bo Gam was summarized, based on which the rationale of acupoint-selection with regard to the cause of disease, physiology of the Oriental medicine, properties of each acupoints, flow of meridian pathways and specific acupoints, etc. Results and Conclusions : The most of the acupoints referred to in the Hand section(the Oehyeong chapter) of Dong Ui Bo Gam, belong to the area surrounding the tender point. Still, when a point around the tender point is taken, it does not simply mean it works because of its proximity to the spot of a specific symptom. Rather, such acupoint-selection should be explained by the cause of disease, physiology of the Oriental Medicine and properties of each acupoint along with aspects such as the flow of meridian pathways and properties of specific acupoint.
Objectives: The purpose of this review was to overview and evaluate the efficacy of acupoint sticking therapy for women with endometriosis. Methods: We searched for randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) using acupoint sticking therapy on endometriosis in 5 electronic databases such as EMBASE, Pubmed, and CAJ. The results of the studies were analyzed and the risk of bias was assessed by using Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results: Two RCTs were included for analysis. In the selected studies, Treatment group was higher effective cure rate than any control group. In one RCT, Acupoint sticking therapy was only used, but the other RCT was treated acupoint sticking therapy combined with acupuncture. So, Interventions in 2 studies were not same, Quantitative synthesis was impossible. Conclusion: The limitation of this review is that the number of studies included is small. However, our systematic review provides a basis for acupoint sticking therapy for endometriosis. Acupoint sticking therapy was considered as one of external treatment method for patients with endometriosis.
Objectives : This study is to compare effects on Intracutaneous Bee Venom pharmacopuncture and Intramuscular Bee Venom pharmacopuncture in Lumbar Disc Herniation. Methods : We investigated 34 cases of patients with lumbar disc herniation and devided into two groups. Group A were treated with intracutaneous bee venom pharmacupuncture and group B were treated with intramuscular bee venom pharmacopuncture. To evaluate the treatment effects of two groups, we used visual analog scale(VAS) and Aberdeen LBP scale. Results : In VAS and Aberdeen LBP scale, that of group A was further improved than that of group B, but there was no statistical significance. Conclusions : Intracutaneous bee venom pharmacupuncture and intramuscular bee venom pharmacopuncture were effective treatments for lumbar disc herniation, but there was no statistical significance.
Objectives : The purpose on this study is to report clinical effects of oriental medicine for traumatic brachial plexus injury. Methods : The patient was treated using acupuncture, electroacupuncture, beevenom acupuncture treatment, herbal medication, moxibustion and physical treatment. And the effects for traumatic brachial plexus injury have measured in VAS, sthenometry and dermatome of upper limb. Results : 1. VAS of upper limb pain was changed to go down at less than half. 2. Sthenometry was improved slowly than VAS. 3. Dermatome of upper limb were improved gradually. Conclusions : Oriental medical treatment showed positive effect on traumatic brachial plexus injury.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report clinical effect of oriental meical for a not improved foot drop patient after herniated intervertebral lumbar disc surgery. Methods : The patient was treated using acupuncture, electroacupuncture, phamacopuncture treatment, herbal medication, moxibustion and physical treatment. And we measured of VAS, ROM of ankle and MMT. Results : After treatment, VAS, ROM of ankle and MMT were improved in case. Conclusions : Oriental medical treatment showed significant effect on patient that not improved foot drop after herniated intervertebral lumbar disc surgery.
Background: The aim of this study was to identify well-supported evidence to aid medical treatment of temporomandibular disorder or dysfunction (TMD) in Korea by analyzing the correlation between TMD and body posture in recent international research. Methods: We looked for recent clinical studies on TMD and body posture in Korean and English databases. Bias risk was estimated using the Risk of Bias Assessment Tool for Non-Randomized Studies and the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool for assessing randomized controlled studies. Results: Nine clinical studies, published between 2005 and 2017, were analyzed. In each, TMD was assessed using the American Academy of Orofacial Pain diagnostic criteria and the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder. Six studies evaluated body posture using photographs, four studies used stabilometry, and one used both photographs and stabilometry. Conclusion: Six of the nine studies found a correlation between TMD and body posture. Well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to provide more data to assess the validity of this correlation.
