This study investigates Active Learning and Facilitation Convergence Education Program which can improve core competency to cope with vocational education in the fourth industrial revolution era. I applied the integrated advantages of Active Learning which enhances 'problem solving skill' and those of Facilitation for creative thinking idea to application design process coursework and verified the effectiveness of such education method through student satisfaction survey. I also designed application contents for the students who are familiar with the mobile environments and UI contents for data visualization which can help those students to improve their skills in software. Every coursework was conducted as a team project. As a result, Active Learning and Facilitation Convergence Education Program is found to be helpful in improving the basic skills and competencies required in college education. I hope this work helps to reduce the educational gap between industry and professional colleges.
In mathematics education we have focused on how to improve the problem-solving ability, which makes its way to the new direction with the introduction of meta-cognition. As meta-cognition is based on cognitive activity of learners and concerned about internal properties, we may find a more effective way to generate learners problem-solving power. Its means that learners can regulate cognitive process according to their gorls of learning by themselves. Moreover, they are expected to make active participation through this process. If specific meta problems designed to develop meta-cognition are offered, learners are able to work alone by means of their own cognition and regulation while solving problems. They can transfer meta-cognition to the other subjects as well as mathematics. The studies on meta-cognition conducted so far may be divided into these three types. First in Flavell([3]) meta-cognition is defined as the matter of being conscious of one's own cognition, that is, recognizing cognition. He conducted an experiment with presschoolers and children who just entered primary school and concluded that their cognition may be described as general stage that can not link to specific situation in line with Piaget. Second, Brown([1], [2]) and others argued that meta-cognition means control and regulation of one's own cognition and tried to apply such concept to classrooms. He tried to fined out the strategies used by intelligent students and teach such types of activity to other students. Third, Merleary-Ponty (1962) claimed that meta-cognition is children's way of understanding phenomena or objects. They worked on what would come out in children's cognition responding to their surrounding world. In this paper following the model of meta-cognition produced by Lester ([7]) based on such ideas, we develop types of meta-cognition. In the process of meta-cognition, the meta-cognition working for it is to be intentionally developed and to help unskilled students conduct meta-cognition. When meta-cognition is disciplined through meta problems, their problem-solving power will provide more refined methods for the given problems through autonomous meta-cognitive activity without any further meta problems.
The purpose of this study was to examine the difference between communicative competence and problem solving ability by applying project - based instruction in the community dental hygienic subject. For this purpose, we measured 30 students' communication ability and problem solving ability using the same questionnaire before and after experiencing project learning. The data were Collected from 30 undergraduate students and analyzed by paired t-test with SPSS. The result demonstrated that project-based learning method has an significant effect on improvement of communication skill and problem solving ability of undergraduate students. Based on the results of this study, in order to improve the practical ability, it is necessary to activate the self-directed active learning method such as Project-based learning for community dental hygiene major study.
A pilot parent education program composed of 8 two-hour sessions was developed on the philosophy of a democratic parent-child relationship. The program focused not only on a concept of personal respect toward children but on change in parenting behaviors through a process of problem-solving. Problem-solving was implemented by encouraging active participation of parents in developing an understanding of the causes of problem behavior and searching for their own solutions. 19 mothers aged 29 to 37 were pre- and post-tested. Two months later, 15 of them responded to a questionnaire (follow-up test). Their concepts of children and parenting behaviors changed dramatically shortly after participation in the program. However, results of the follow-up test showed the such gains are not always long lasting. This implies that further investigation is needed for helping mothers retain the effectiveness of the program.

The purpose of this study is to investigate students decision-making progress through ill-structured problem solving process. For this study, 25 fifth graders in an elementary school were observed by applying ABCDE model (Analyze - Browse - Create - Decision making - Evaluate), and analyzed their decision-making progress analyzing framework which follows 3 steps - making their own decision, discussing/revising with peers, and lastly decision making/solving problem. Upper two groups with better performance in ill-structured problem solving model among 6 groups showed active discussion in group and decision making process with 3 steps (making their own decision, discussing/revising with peers). Even though their decisions are not good-fit to mathematical reasoning result, development and application of ill-structured problems would bring better ability of high level thinking and problem solving to students.
There has been an amounting interest and subjects in gifted education in recent years as a number of studies dealt with the development of gifted education programs. However, earth science area remained as a low profile in developing educational programs and materials that meet the varying curiosities and needs of gifted students with a focus on their characteristic development. This study developed a small group-based active-cooperative learning program in middle school to investigate the effects of the program in terms of the creative problem solving ability in science and learning attitude of the gifted students. Then the study examined the conceptions of the students after the implementation of the small group-based active-cooperative learning program. Findings of the study showed that there was a significant increase in participated gifted students' creative problem solving skills and their learning attitude. In addition, the small group-based active-cooperative learning program apparently increased the participants' interests, satisfaction, and participation toward the instruction, and significantly influenced their affective domain. It implies that these findings were not caused by the lectures from the teachers, but by the variety of activities in which the gifted students discussed and debated with the classmates to derive a positive reciprocal action. In conclusion, a small group-based active-cooperative learning program promoted a reciprocal action among all the students who participated in a small group by sharing their opinions and respecting each other.

If the C++ programming class, an object-oriented language capable of modeling similar to the real world, is developed as a curriculum that introduces the flipped learning model, students' active problem-solving skills can be cultivated. In this subject development case, it is significant that the flipped learning technique was applied to the programming class and was effective in improving students' active problem-solving skills. First, the lectures in the 4th session were divided into Pre-Class, In-Class, and Post-Class, and the class was conducted in a way that suggested class goals suitable for the subject and formed a team to discuss. At the end of the lecture, a follow-up survey was conducted to check whether the learners learned effectively.

This paper presents a new practical method for optimal active and reactive power control for the economic operation in electrical power system, and the programs are developed for digital computer solution. The major features and techniques of this paper are as follows: 1) The method is presented for finding the equivalent active power balance equation applying the sparse Jacobian matrix of power flow equation instead of using B constant as active power balance equation considering transmission loss, and thus for determining directly optimal active power allocation berween generator unitw satisfying the equality and inequality constraints. 2) The method is proposed for solving directly the optimum economim dispatch problem without using gradient method and penalty function for both active and reactive power control. As a result, the computing time are reduced and convergence characteristic is remarkably improved. 3) Unlike most of conventional methods which adopt the transmission loss as a objective function for reactive power control, the total fuel cost of themal power plant is adopted as objective function for both active and reactive power control. consequently, more reasonable and economic profit can be achieved.
The purpose of this study is to develop instructional design model of flipped learning suitable for engineering education field and to draw out effects and improvements by applying it to actual lessons for engineering college students. Literature review and case studies were conducted to achieve the purpose of the study. For a case study, flipped learning was applied to 'creative problem solving methodology' which is a liberal arts course of engineering college at D university in Gyeonggi-do. As a result of the literature review, the PARTNER model was applied and weekly instructional guide was presented by each stage. In addition, the results of analysis on the reflection journal showed that the students were more able to achieve the deepening learning stage through active participation in class than the existing class, and found that they had a more challenging plan after the class.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the 6th national secondary science curriculum and classroom practices to collect the basic data for developing secondary science program focusing on creative problem-solving ability. The creative problem-solving ability was conceptualized as an active process of producing new solutions to problems and consisted of five components: general knowledge, domain-specific knowledge, motivation, divergent thinking and critical thinking. The research questions were generated as follows: (1) Whether creative problem-solving elements-domain specific knowledge(declarative knowledge and inquiry methods) were included or not in the 6th secondary science curriculum, textbooks and teacher's guide? If so, how are they represented? (2) Whether the teachers tried to enhance divergent and critical thinking of their students. Through content analyses, observations and interviews, these research questions were answered as follows: (1) Inquiry methods, which are important to develop creative problem-solving abilities in science, were underestimated in comparison with declarative knowledge. In other words. inquiry methods were regarded only as tools to understand the scientific concepts and principles. (2) It was hard to find the situations which teachers provided opportunities for divergent and critical thinking to their students. Based on these results, the followings were recommended: (1) Inquiry methods should be regarded as a goal not as a tool and be used to acquire inquiry methods themselves. (2) Teachers should not stick to the prescribed inquiry methods prescribed in the textbook, but to give opportunities for thinking various kinds of inquiry methods to improve divergent and critical thinking.
