PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the color stability, water sorption and cytotoxicity of thermoplastic acrylic resin for the non-metal clasp dentures to those of thermoplastic polyamide and conventional heat-polymerized denture base resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three types of denture base resin, which are conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin (Paladent 20), thermoplastic polyamide resin (Bio Tone), thermoplastic acrylic resin (Acrytone) were used as materials for this study. One hundred five specimens were fabricated. For the color stability test, specimens were immersed in the coffee and green tee for 1 and 8 weeks. Color change was measured by spectrometer. Water sorption was tested after 1 and 8 weeks immersion in the water. For the test of cytotoxicity, cell viability assay was measured and cell attachment was analyzed by FE-SEM. RESULTS. All types of denture base resin showed color changes after 1 and 8 weeks immersion. However, there was no significant difference between denture base resins. All specimens showed significant color changes in the coffee than green tee. In water sorption test, thermoplastic acrylic resin showed lower values than conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin and thermoplastic polyamide resin. Three types of denture base showed low cytotoxicity in cell viability assay. Thermoplastic acrylic resin showed the similar cell attachment but more stable attachment than conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin. CONCLUSION. Thermoplastic acrylic resin for the non-metal clasp denture showed acceptable color stability, water sorption and cytotoxicity. To verify the long stability in the mouth, additional in vitro studies are needed.

High-solid coatings were prepared by blending of previosly synthesized acrylic resins and hexamethylene diisocyanate-trimer and curing it at room temperature. The characterization of the films of the prepared coatings was performed. The impact resistance, cross-hatch adhesion, $60^{\circ}$specular gloss, and heat resistance of the films proved to be good, and the pencil hardness and drying time proved to be slightly poor. Especially, there was a remarkable improvement in the heat resistance. This improvement may stem from the regular arrangement of ethyl groups introduced into the acrylic resin. As a result of Rigid-body pendulum visco-elasticity measurement, dynamic $T_g$ values of cured films increased with dynamic $T_g$ values.
One of the primary advantage of acrylic resin teeth is their ability to bond chemically to the denture base resins. But, occasionally, failure have been observed in which acrylic resin teeth break lose from the denture, indicating that chemical bonding does not always occur. The most probable explanation for this type of failure was the presence of a trace of wax remaining as a residue on the surfaces of the teeth after the boiling-out procedure which adgered to the tooth surface and prevented bonding. The purpose of this stdy was preparing the specimens of denture base resin with acrylic resin teeth that four treatment method to ridge lap portion of the tooth and investigated bond between the teeth and denture base resin with tensile strength. Compared results of tensile strength on test specimens were as follows: 1. The mean of strength among the four test groups showed the difference was significant enough(P 0.01). The order of its strength mean was methylene chloride treatment group, detergent solution treatment group, kerosene-ether treatment grgoup, boiling water only group. 2. In compared results between the wax eliminating method groups, there were significant difference between the boiling water only group and other groups(P 0.01), no significant difference were found in the wax eliminating method groups except boiling water only group(P 0.05).

In order to prepare high-solid coatings, acrylic resins, HSCs [poly (EA/EMA/2-HEMA/CLA)] that contain 90% solid, were synthesized by copolymerization of ethyl acrylate (EA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) and caprolactone acrylate (CLA). The high-solid coatings named as CHSCs (HSCs/HDI-trimer) were prepared by the curing reaction between the acrylic resins containing 90% solid contents and the isocyanates (HDI-trimer) curing agent room temperature. The curing behavior and various properties were examined on the film coated with the both high-solid coatings. The glass transition temperatures $(T_g)$ of CHSCs increased proportionally with increasing the predicted $T_g$ value by Fox equation, and had nothing to do with the solid contents. The prepared film showed good properties for $60^{\circ}$ specular gloss, impact resistance, cross-hatch adhesion and heat resistance, and bad properties for pencil hardness, drying time, and pot-life. Among the film properties, the heat resistance was very excellent and could be explained by the introduction of functional monomers of CLA.

This study would like to measure and compare water sorption and solubility of acrylic resins, with 3 different polymerizing methods, and tensile strength between denture base resin and relining rosins. For this experiment, 3 different acrylic resins were used; heat polymerizing resin: Vertex (Dentmex, Zeist, Holland), autopolymerizing resin: Tokuso Rebase (Tokuyama Corp, Tokyo, Japan), and light curing resin: Mild Rebaron LC(GC Corp, Tokyo, Japan) The results were as follows ; 1. Tokuso Rebase showed the lowest water sorption. followed by Mild Rebaron LC and Vertex. Among resins, there were some signigicant differences (P<0.05). 2. Vertex showed the lowest solubility, followed by Mild Rebaron LC and Tokuso Rcbase. Among resins, there were some signigicant differences (P<0.05). 3. Intact Vertex showed the highest tensile strength, and Mild Rebaron LC had a more tensile strength than Tokuso Rebase. Between Vertex and the other resins, there were some signigicant differences (P<0.05) However, between Mild Rebaron LC and Tokuso Rebase, there was no statistical difference (P>0.05). About 50% of Rebaron LC showed cohesive fracture. 4. Tensile strength has more decreased after thermocycling than before, but there was no statistical difference (P>0.05).
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of paracetic acid (PAA) and ozone disinfection on the tensile bond strength (TBS) of silicone-based resilient liners to acrylic resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One hundred and twenty dumbbell shaped heat-polymerized acrylic resins were prepared. From the mid segment of the specimens, 3 mm of acrylic were grinded off and separated parts were reattached by resilient liners. The specimens were divided into 2 control (control1, control7) and 4 test groups of PAA and ozone disinfection (PAA1, PAA7, ozone1 and ozone7; n=10). While control groups were immersed in distilled water for 10 min (control1) and 7 days (control7), test groups were subjected to PAA (16 g/L) or ozone rich water (4 mg/L) for 1 cycle (10 min for PAA and 60 min for ozone) per day for 7 days prior to tensile tests. Measurements of the TBS were analyzed using 3-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test. RESULTS. Adhesive strength of Mollosil decreased significantly by application of ozone disinfection. PAA disinfection had no negative effect on the TBS values of Mollosil and Molloplast B to acrylic resin. Single application of ozone disinfection did not have any negative effect on TBS values of Molloplast B, but prolonged exposure to ozone decreased its adhesive strength. CONCLUSION. The adhesion of resilient liners to acrylic was not adversely affected by PAA disinfection. Immersion in ozonated water significantly decreased TBS of Mollosil. Prolonged exposure to ozone negatively affects adhesion of Molloplast B to denture base materials.

Hydrocarbon resins, which are defined as low molecular weight, amorphous, and thermoplastic polymers, are widely used as tackifier for various types of adhesives, as processing aids in rubber compounds, and as modifiers for plastics polymers such as isotactic polypropylene. Typically, hydrocarbon resins are non-polar, and thus highly compatible with non-polar rubbers and polymer. However, they are poorly compatible with polar system, such as acrylic copolymer, polyurethanes, and polyamides. Moreover, recently the raw materials of hydrocarbon resin from naphtha cracking had been decreased because of light feed cracking such as gas cracking. To overcome this problem, in this study, novel hydrocarbon resins were designed to have a highly polar chemical structure which material is sustainable. And, it was successfully synthesized by Diels-Alder reaction of dicyclopentadiene monomer and sorbic acid from blueberry as renewable resources. Acrylic resins were formulated with various tackifiers solution including sorbic acid grafted hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene hydrocarbon resins in acrylic adhesive and rolling ball tack, loop tack, $180^{\circ}$ peel adhesion strength, and shear adhesion strength were measured. The properties depend on the softening point and polar content of tackifiers.
This study was performed to investigate the color stability and shear bond strength of denture repair resins. The denture base resins used in this study were Premium Super-20(Lang Dental Mfg. Co., Inc.,.U.S.A.) as heat curing resin, Triad VLC Denture Base(Dentsply/York Division, U.S.A.), Triad Reline Material(Dentsply/York Division, U.S.A.), Repair Acrylic(Lang Dental Mfg. Co., Inc.,. U.S.A.), Toughron Rebase (MikiChemical Product, Kyoto, Japan), and Tokuso Rebase(Tokuyama Soda Co., Ltd., Japan) as denture repair resin. After fabrication of specimens, they stored for 20 months, then color changes and shear bond strength were measured by colorimeter(Model TC-6FX, Tokyo Denshoku Co.) and Instron Universial Test Machine. The results were as follows : 1. There were changes of $L^{\ast},\;a^{\ast},\;b^{\ast}$ and $DE^{\ast}$ in Triad VLC Denture Base after 20 months. 2. There were changes of $a^{\ast}$ in Toughron Rebase and Tokuso Rebase, and $b^{\ast}$ in Tokuso Rebase after 20 months. 3. The shear bond strength of Repair Acrylic and Toughron Rebase were higher than that of Tokuso Rebase and Triad Reline Material.

Room temperature cure type of acryl-urethane coatings with high solid content were prepared in this study. Acrylic resins with 80% solid content were cured with hexamethylene diisocyanate (Desmodure N-3600). The cure time of prepared coatings BEHCC-84 (BEHC-84 : $T_g=0^{\circ}C$) and BEHCC-87 (BEHC-87 : $T_g=30^{\circ}C$), measured by rigid-body pendulum method, was recorded 8.3 hours and 3.8 hours, respectively. Dynamic viscoelastic experiment also revealed the glass transition temperature of BEHCC-84 and BEHCC-87 to be $T_g=40.3^{\circ}C$ and $T_g=43.3^{\circ}C$, respectively. It was found that the adhesion and flexural properties among various propeties of coatings were enhanced by the incorporation of caprolactone acrylate monomer into the acrylic resins.
