Recently, the necessity of underwater communication and demand for transmitting and receiving various data such as voice or high resolution image data are increasing as well. The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is influenced by characteristics of the underwater communication channels. Especially, ISI(inter symbol interference) occurs because of delay spread according to multi-path and communication performance is degraded. In this paper, we study the OFDM technique to overcome the delay spread in underwater channel and by using CP, we compensate for delay spread. But PAPR which OFDM system has problem is very high. Therefore, we use DFT-spread OFDM method to avoid nonlinear distortion by high PAPR and to improve efficiency of amplifier. DFT-spread OFDM technique obtains high PAPR reduction effect because of each parallel data loads to all subcarrier by DFT spread processing before IFFT. In this paper, we show performance about delay spread through OFDM system and verify method that DFT spread OFDM is more suitable than OFDM for underwater communication. And we analyze performance according to two subcarrier mapping methods(Interleaved, Localized). Through the simulation results, performance of DFT spread OFDM is better about 5~6dB at $10^{-4}$ than OFDM. When compared to BER according to subcarrier mapping, Interleaved method is better about 3.5dB at $10^{-4}$ than Localized method.
Purpose : To evaluate the role of fractlonated sterotactic radiotherapy (FSRT) in the management of benign brain tumors, we reviewed the clinical, and radiographic responses of patients treated. Methods and Materials : Between March 1995 and March 2002, 36 patients with benign brain tumors were treated by FSRT. The pathological diagnoses consisted of pituitary adenomas (12 patients), cranio-pharyngiomas (5 patients), meningiomas (10 patients), and acoustic neurinomas (9 patients). Radiotherapy doses of 25 to 35 Gy (3~6 Gy/fraction, 5~10 fractions) were prescribed to the 85~90% isodose line, depending upon the location, size and volume of the tumors. The median clinical and radiographical follow up periods were 31 (range, 2~74) and 21 (range, 4~56) months, respectively. Results : In the 35 patients that could be evaluated for their clinical response, 13 (37.1%) were considered improved, 16 (45.7%) stable and 6 (17.2%) worse. Of the 33 patients who had radiographic studies, tumor shrinkage was noted in 17 (51.5%), tumor stabilization in 13 (39.4%), and tumor progression in 3 (9.1%). Of the 17 tumor shrinkage patients, 7 (21.2%) showed a complete response. Acute radiation-induced complications occurred iin 11 (30.6%) patients. Conclusions : FSRT is considered a safe and effective treatment method for begin brain tumors, but large numbers of patients, with relatively long follow-up periods are needed to assess the exact role or effect of FSRT.

With the increase in the speed of ships and the size of ocean structures, the importance of flow noise has become increasingly critical in meeting regulatory standards. However, unlike active investigations in aeroacoustics fields for airplanes and trains, which are based on acoustic analogy methods for tonal and broadband frequency noise, only the discrete blade passing frequency noise from propellers is considered in marine fields. In this study, prediction methods for broadband noise in marine propellers and underwater appendages are investigated using FW-H Formulation1B, which can consider the mechanism of primary noise generation of trailing edge noise. The original FW-H Formulation 1B is based on the pressure correlation function tolackitsgeneralityandaccuracy. To overcome these limitations, wall-pressure spectrum models are adopted to improve the generality in fluid mediums. The comparison of the experimental results obtained in air reveals that the proposed model exhibits a higher accuracy within 5 dB. Furthermore, the prediction procedures for broadband noise for hydrofoils are established, and the estimation of broadband noise is conducted based on the results of the computational fluid dynamics.
After performing mandibular setback surgery, we found some changes in patterns and organs of speech. This investigation was undertaken to investigate the aspect and degree of speech patterns according to the amount of surgical setback in mandibular prognathic patients. Thirteen patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion were studied preoperative and postoperative over 6 months. They had undergone the mandible setback operation via bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy(BSSRO). We split the patients into two groups. Group 1 included patients whose degree of mandibular setback was 6mm or less, and Group 2 above 6mm. Control group was two adults wish normal speech patterns. A phonetician performed narrow phonetic transcriptions of tape-recorded words and sentences produced by each of the patients and the acoustic characteristics of the plosives, fricatives, and flaps were analyzed with a phonetic computer program (Computerized Speech Lab(CSL) Model 4300B(USA)). The results are as follows: 1. Generally, Patients showed longer closure duration of plosives, shorter VOT(voice onset time) and higher ratio of closure duration against VOT. 2. Patients showed more frequent diffuse distribution than the control group in frication noise energy of fricatives. 3. In fricatives, frequency of compact from were higher in group 1 than in group 2. 4. Generally, a short duration of closure for /ㄹ/ was not realized in the patient's flaps. Instead, it was realized as fricatives, sonorant with a vowel-like formant structure, or trill type consonant. 5. Abnormality of the patient's articulation was reduced, but adaptation of their articulation after surgery was not perfect and the degree of adaptation was different according to the degree of surgical setback.
This study was performed to analyze bond strength, the alterations of the interfaces between metal films which are populary used and considered to contribute to the chemical reaction with porcelain, according to constant ion- beam- mixing, and the relation between interfacial chemical reactions and bond strength in metal/porcelain specimens. For this study, three seperate metals : selected-gold, indium and tin were chosen ; each to be bonded to a seperate body porcelain. Bonding occurs when the metal is deposited to the body porcelain using a vacuum evaporator. The vacuum evaporator used $10^{-5}\sim10^{-6}$ Torr vacuum states for the evaporation of various metals (Au, Sn, In). Ion-beam-mixing of the porcelain/metal interfaces caused reactions when the Ar+ was implanted into thin films using a 80 KeV accelerator. These ion-beam-mixed specimens were then compared with an unmixed control group. An analysis of bond strength and ionic changes between the the metal and porcelain was performed by electron spectroscopy of chemical analysis (ESCA) and scratch test. The finding led to the following conclusions : 1. Light microscopic views of the scratch test : The ion-beam-mixed Au/porcelain specimen showed narrower scratched streams than the unmixed specimen. However, the Sn/porcelain, In/porcelain specimens showed no differences in the two conditions. 2. Acoustic emissions in scratch tests : The ion-mixed Au/porcelain, In/porcelain specimens showed signals closer to the metal/porcelain interfaces than unmixed specimens. Conversely, the ion-mixed Sn/porcelain specimen showed more critical signals in superficial portions than unmixed specimens. 3. After ion- beam-mixing, the Au/porcelain specimen showed apparently increased bond strength, and the In/porcelain specimen showed very slightly increased bond strength. However, the Sn/porcelain specimen showed no differences between ion mixed specimen and the unmixed one. 4. ESCA analysis : The ion-beam-mixed Au/porcelain specimen showed a higher peak separated value (4.3eV) than that of the unmixed specimen(3.65eV), the ion-beam-mixed In/porcelain specimen showed a higher peak separated value (9.43eV) than that of the unmixed specimen(7.6eV) and the ion-beam-mixed Sn/porcelain specimen showed a higher peak separated value (8.79eV) than that of the unmixed specimen(8.5eV). 5. Interfacial changes were observed in the ion-mixed Au/porcelain, In/porcelain and Sn/porcelain specimens. Especially, significant interfacial changes were measured in the ion- mixed Sn/porcelain specimen. Tin dioxide(SnO2) and a combination of pure tin and tin dioxide (Sn+SnO2) were produced. 6. In the Au/porcelain specimen, the interfacial chemical reaction showed increased bond strength between gold and porcelain substrate. But, in the In/porcelain, Sn/porcelain specimens, interfacial chemical reactions did not affected the bond strength between metal and porcelain substrate. Especially, bonding strength on the ion mixed Sn/porcelain specimen showed the least amount of difference.

Large-sized multi-touch screen is usually made using infrared rays. That is because it has technical constraints or cost problems to make the screen with the other ways using such as existing resistive overlays, capacitive overlay, or acoustic wave. Using infrared rays to make multi-touch screen is easy, but is likely to have technical limits to be implemented. To make up for these technical problems, two other methods were suggested through Surface project, which is a next generation user-interface concept of Microsoft. One is Frustrated Total Internal Reflection (FTIR) which uses infrared cameras, the other is Diffuse Illumination (DI). FTIR and DI are easy to be implemented in large screens and are not influenced by the number of touch points. Although FTIR method has an advantage in detecting touch-points, it also has lots of disadvantages such as screen size limit, quality of the materials, the module for infrared LED arrays, and high consuming power. On the other hand, DI method has difficulty in detecting touch-points because of it's structural problems but makes it possible to solve the problem of FTIR. In this thesis, we study the algorithms for effectively correcting the distort phenomenon of optical lens, and image processing algorithms in order to solve the touch detecting problem of the original DI method. Moreover, we suggest calibration algorithms for improving the accuracy of multi-touch, and a new tracking technique for accurate movement and gesture of the touch device. To verify our approaches, we implemented a table-based multi touch screen.

Despite the various opening models of the southwestern part of the East Sea (Japan Sea) between the Korean Peninsula and the Japan Arc, the continental margin of the Korean Peninsula remains unknown in crustal structure. As a result, continental rifting and subsequent seafloor spreading processes to explain the opening of the East Sea have not been adequately addressed. We investigated crustal and sedimentary velocity structures across the Korean margin into the adjacent Ulleung Basin from multichannel seismic reflection and ocean bottom seismometer data. The Ulleung Basin shows crustal velocity structure typical of oceanic although its crustal thickness of about 10 km is greater than normal. The continental margin documents rapid transition from continental to oceanic crust, exhibiting a remarkable decrease in crustal thickness accompanied by shallowing of Moho over a distance of about 50 km. The crustal model of the margin is characterized by a high-velocity (up to 7.4 km/s) lower crustal (HVLC) layer that is thicker than 10 km under the slope base and pinches out seawards. The HVLC layer is interpreted as magmatic underplating emplaced during continental rifting In response to high upper mantle temperature. The acoustic basement of the slope base shows an igneous stratigraphy developed by massive volcanic eruption. These features suggest that the evolution of the Korean margin can be explained by the processes occurring at volcanic rifted margins. Global earthquake tomography supports our interpretation by defining the abnormally hot upper mantle across the Korean margin and in the Ulleung Basin.
The Yellow Sea has sensitively responded to high-amplitude sea-level fluctuations during the late Quaternary. The repeated inundation and exposure have produced distinct transgression-regression successions with extensive exposure surfaces in Kyeonggi Bay. The late Quaternary strata consist of four seismic stratigraphic units, considered as depositional sequences (DS-1, DS-2, DS-3, and DS-4). DS-1 was interpreted as ridge-forming sediments of tidal-flat and estuarine channel-fill facies, formed during the Holocene highstand. DS-2 consists of shallow-marine facies in offshore area, which was formed during the regression of Marine Isotope Stage (MIS)-3 period. DS-3 comprises the lower transgressive facies and the upper highstand tidal-flat facies in proximal ridges and forced regression facies in distal ridges and offshore area. The lowermost DS-4 rests on acoustic basement rocks, considered as the shallow-marine and shelf deposits formed before the MIS-6 lowstand. This study suggests six depositional stages. During the first stage-A, MIS-6 lowstand, the Yellow Sea shelf was subaerially exposed with intensive fluvial incision and weathering. The subsequent rapid and high amplitude rise of sea level in stage-B until the MIS-5e highstand produced transgressive deposits in the lowermost part of the MIS-5 sequence, and the successive regression during the MIS-5d to -5a and the MIS-4 lowstand formed the upperpart of the MIS-5 sequence in stage-C. During the stage-D, from the MIS-4 lowstand to MIS-3c highstand period, the transgressive MIS-3 sequence formed in a subtidal environment characterized by repetitive fluvial incision and channel-fill deposition in exposed area. The subsequent sea-level fall culminating the last glacial maximum (Stage-E) made shallow-marine regressive deposits of MIS-3 sequence in offshore distal area, whereas it formed fluvial channel-fills and floodplain deposits in the proximal area. After the last glacial maximum, the overall Yellow Sea shelf was inundated by the Holocene transgression and highstand (Stage-F), forming the Holocene transgressive shelf sands and tidal ridges.
We simulate the propagation of earthquake waves in the continental margin of Antarctica using the elastic wave modeling algorithm, which is modified to be suitable for acoustic-elastic coupled media and earthquake source. To simulate the various types of earthquake source, the staggered-grid finite-difference method, which is composed of velocity-stress formulae, can be more appropriate to use than the conventional, displacement-based, finite-difference method. We simulate the elastic wave propagation generated by earthquakes combining 3D staggered-grid finite-difference algorithm composed of displacement-velocity-stress formulae with double couple mechanisms for earthquake source. Through numerical tests for left-lateral strike-slip fault, normal fault and reverse fault, we could confirm that the first arrival of P waves at the surface is in a good agreement with the theoretically-predicted results based on the focal mechanism of an earthquake. Numerical results for a model made after the subduction zone in the continental margin of Antarctica showed that earthquake waves, generated by the reverse fault and propagating through the continental crust, the oceanic crust and the ocean, are accurately described.

A main objective of audio equalizer is for user to tailor acoustic frequency response to increase sound comfort and example applications of audio equalizer includes large-scale audio system to portable audio such as mobile MP3 player. Up to now, all the audio equalizer requires manual setting to equalize frequency bands to create suitable sound quality for each genre of music. In this paper, we propose an intelligent audio graphic equalizer system that automatically classifies the music genre using music content analysis and then the music sound is boosted with the given frequency gains according to the classified musical genre when playback. In order to reproduce comfort sound, the musical genre is determined based on two-step hierarchical algorithm - coarse-level and fine-level classification. It can prevent annoying sound reproduction due to the sudden change of the equalizer gains at the beginning of the music playback. Each stage of the music classification experiments shows at least 80% of success with complete genre classification and equalizer operation within 2 sec. Simple S/W graphical user interface of 3-band automatic equalizer is implemented using visual C on personal computer.
