Antioxidant compound(s) were identified from the ethanol extract of wild grape (Vitis coignetiea) seed. Organic solvent fractions of n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and butanol were obtained from the ethanol extract of wild grape seed, among which ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest reducing power. Ethyl acetate fraction was further purified through ODS column chromatography and HPLC, and isolated antioxidative active compound was identified through $^1H-NMR$ as (+)-catechin (52.7 g/100 g). (+)-Catechin and ethyl acetate fraction both showed approximately 80% scavenging effect. These results indicated (+)-catechin in the ethyl acetate fraction synergetically interacts with unknown antioxidative compound(s).

When the surfactant is dissolved in an aqueous solution, it forms aggregate called micelles (<20 nm) in the solution, and micelles can form the solubilized formulation by supporting the active ingredient therein. Swollen micelles are formulations capable of carrying larger amounts of active ingredient than conventional solubilized formulations at 50~100 nm. Unlike liposomes or nanoemulsions, which require a separate process such as high pressure emulsification, Swollen micelle is a more efficient method of solubilization and particle formation from a productive point of view. In this study, stabilization experiments on swollen micelle formulations were carried out using poloxamer 407, and then optimized formulation experiments for tocopheryl acetate components were performed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Tocopheryl acetate, a surfactant that affects solubilization and an active substance, were set as a factor and the correlation between them was confirmed. As the evaluation method, stability and particle size distribution and size were confirmed by temperature and time, and the structure and shape of the swollen micelle carrying the active ingredient were confirmed by FIB. These results show that poloxamer 407 0.500%, octyldodeceth-16 0.387% and tocopheryl acetate 0.945% are the most optimized prescriptions for swollen micelle stabilized with tocopheryl acetate.

To test the cytoprotective effect of sophorae radix (SR) against hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂)-induced cytotoxicity, we investigated the cell viability using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay in the presence of ethyl acetate subfractions of SR water extracts In H9c2 cells. And to clarify the cytoprotective mechanism of SR extracts, we evaluated the cellular glutathione (GSH) contents in the presence of subfraction 1, 2, 3, and 4 of SR ethyl acetate soluble fractions. Among 1 -12 subfractions of SR ethyl acetate soluble fractions, 1, 2, 3 and 4 subfractions have an efficacy inhibiting the cytotoxicity induced by H₂O₂ in H9c2 cells. Also, the protective effects of 1, 2, 3 and 4 subfractions of SR ethyl acetate soluble fractions resulted from the anti-oxidant effects. These results suggest that ethyl acetate soluble fractions of SR water extracts is effective in the prevention of H₂O₂-induced cytotoxicity and 1, 2, 3 and 4 subfraction of ethyl acetate soluble fractions possess the anti-oxidant component.
The preparation, characterization and drug release behaviour of drug(indomethacin) loaded Poly(L-lactic acid)(PLA), tarmarind acetate and levan acetate mircospheres were investigated. Hydrophobic tarmarind acetate and levan acetate were prepared by chemical modification of hydrophilic tarmaried gum and levan and microspheres were made by a solvent evaporation method. In the case of poly(L-lactic acid) microspheres, drug release rate was effected by polymer-drug ratios and drum release was sustained by increasing of polymer content. The yield of microspheres were effected by many factors and the mean size was below 1 $\mu$m, The IND release profiles from tarmarind acetate and levan acetate micropheres were more slightly less than ploy(L-lactic acid) microspheres.
Among the environmental pollutants, cadmium and lead compounds may impair human health. These compounds may inhibit the biological metabolic function of human body and may furthermore cause the disease directly or indirectly. This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of the immune response by intoxication of cadmium chloride and lead acetate. Cadmium chloride (8.8mg/kg, in saline 10ml) and lead acetate (15mg/kg, in saline 10ml) were administered by intraperitoneal injection. After 3 weeks, the rats were intoxicated with the above chemicals and immunized with sheep RBC. After 4 weeks, the immune response of rat spleen cells was measured by the Jerne's technique. The results were obtained as follows; 1. There was no change in leukocyte counts by the intoxication of cadmium chloride or lead acetate. 2. Cadmium chloride or lead acetate reduced hemoglobin contents for most intoxicated and immunized groups. 3. Hematocrits were decreased by the intoxication of cadmium chloride or lead acetate significantly. 4. It was determined that total protein, A/G (Albumin/Globulin), ${\alpha}-,\;{\beta}-\;and\;{\gamma}$-globulins in rat serum were not changed. 5. Intoxication by cadmium chloride or lead acetate reduced the number of hemolytic plaque to the sheep RBC in rat spleen cells. Therefore, antibody producing of rat spleen cells was suppressed by the intoxication of cadmium chloride and lead acetate.
The esterification of alcohols with acetic acid, lactic acid and citric acid was carried out in batch during the second distillation. Effect of various parameters, e.g. pH of reactant base spirit, temperature of distillation, time of distillation were studied. The parameter of distillation temperature was modified by atmospheric distillation and pressure distillation. The pressure(1.9 atm.) distillation was used in order to react and distill at high temperature. Compared with the base spirit concentration, ethyl acetate, ethyl lactate and iso-amyl acetate in esterification distillate increased by 2,890%, 6,410% and 52%, respectively. Major factors of the esterification with organic acids in distilled spirit making were molecular weight of the organic acid and pH of reactant base spirit.
VFAs like acetate are the major soluble metabolites of food waste leachates after digested. Therefore this study investigates the effect of acetate on growth rate and nutrient removal efficiency of Chlorella vulgaris to treat digested food waste leachates. The initial acetate concentration varied from 0 to 20 mM. As a result, Chlorella vulgaris growth rate was increased as high as the concentrations ranged from 0 to 20 mM. The same trend was observed with $NH_4$-N and $PO_4$-P consumption. The highest growth rate and the highest $NH_4$-N, $PO_4$-P removal rate were observed at acetate concentration of 20 mM. The microalgae growth rate and $NH_4$-N, $PO_4$-P removal rates were 1.5, 1.8, 2.3 times higher than the condition without acetate.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of 11 active compounds of essential oils (ACEO) on rumen fermentation characteristics and methane production. Two trials were conducted. In trial 1, ACEO (eugenol, carvacrol, citral, limonene, 1,4-cineole, p-cymene, linalool, bornyl acetate, ${\alpha}$-pinene, and ${\beta}$-pinene) at a dose of $1,000{\mu}L/L$ were incubated for 24 h in diluted rumen fluid with a 70:30 forage:concentrate substrate (16.2% crude protein; 36.6% neutral detergent fiber). Three fistulated Holstein cows were used as donors of rumen fluid. The reduction in methane production was observed with nine ACEO (up to 86% reduction) compared with the control (p<0.05). Among these, only limonene, 1,4-cineole, bornyl acetate, and ${\alpha}$-pinene did not inhibit volatile fatty acid (VFA) production, and only bornyl acetate produced less methane per mol of VFA compared with the control (p<0.05). In a subsequent trial, the effects on rumen fermentation and methane production of two concentrations (500 and $2,000{\mu}L/L$) of bornyl acetate, the most promising ACEO from the first trial, were evaluated using the same in vitro incubation method that was used in the first trial. In trial 2, monensin was used as a positive control. Both doses of bornyl acetate decreased (p<0.05) methane production and did not inhibit VFA production. Positive effects of bornyl acetate on methane and VFA production were more pronounced than the effects of monensin. These results confirm the ability of bornyl acetate to decrease methane production, which may help to improve the efficiency of energy use in the rumen.
Activities of nanostructure HZSM-5 and Co-ZSM-5 catalysts (with different Co-loading) for catalytic conversion of ethyl acetate and toluene were studied. The catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, BET, SEM, TEM and ICP-AES techniques. Catalytic studies were carried out inside a U-shaped fixed bed reactor under atmospheric pressure and different temperatures. Toluene showed lower reactivity than ethyl acetate for conversion on Co-ZSM-5 catalysts. The effect of Co loading on conversion was prominent at temperatures below $400^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$ for ethyl acetate and toluene respectively. In a binary mixture of organic compounds, toluene and ethyl acetate showed an inhibition and promotional behaviors respectively, in which the conversion of toluene was decreased at temperatures above $350^{\circ}C$. Inhibition effect of water vapor was negligible at temperatures above $400^{\circ}C$. An artificial neural networks model was developed to predict the conversion efficiency of ethyl acetate on Co-ZSM-5 catalysts based on experimental data. Predicted results showed a good agreement with experimental results. ANN modeling predicted the order of studied variable effects on ethyl acetate conversion, which was as follows: reaction temperature (50%) > ethyl acetate inlet concentration (25.085%) > content of Co loading (24.915%).
This study was made on the poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and poly(vinyl acetate- ethylene) (VAE) emulsion polymer blend which used PVA as protective colloid, and the PVA used as protective colloid was existed in each emulsion film before blend and even in the film after the blend consecutively. It makes us expect excellent adhesive power among particles that form the blend. Emulsion blends with different Tg are important target of concerning, and PVAc/VAE emulsion blend suggested simple and excellent research method. As a result of blend, elongation was lowered by the increase of PVAc, and the plasticizer used in making PVAc affected on the Tg of blend and lowered Tg of VAE emulsion, and the synergy effect of two blends was seen for the tensile strength, thermal resistance, and adhesive strength.
