  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the mediating effects of self-efficacy between academic stress and college adjustment in first year nursing students. Method: Data were collected from 396 first year nursing students from 3 junior colleges and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations and structural equation model (SEM) with PASW 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs. Results: There was a negative relationship between academic stress and college adjustment but a positive relationship between self-efficacy and college adjustment. There was a partial mediating effect of self-efficacy between academic stress and college adjustment. Conclusion: The results indicate a need to develop programs that effectively promote the self-efficacy of first year nursing students to decrease academic stress and maximize college adjustment. Further studies are needed in which other factors that could affect college adjustment are examined.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop MBL(Microcomputer Based Laboratory) programs for sixth-grade elementary students in science laboratory instructions and to ascertain the effects of this program on academic achievement and science-related affective characteristics. In laboratory instructions, using the MBL was found to be effective in improving academic achievement for elementary students, especially in the domain of knowledge. In addition, it helped students to improve science-related affective characteristics. The experimental group showed higher levels, especially in the domains of cognition and interest. When our findings were analyzed in detail, the sub-domains that showed positive effects included 'cognition of science' in the domain of cognition, and interest toward science', 'interest toward science learning', 'interest toward science related activities', and 'anxiety for science' in the domain of interest. Male students exhibited improvement in the domain of cognition while female students showed improvement in the domain of interest. In conclusion, utilizing MBL programs as an experimental measurement in the real field of elementary science education can be said to be both positive and desirable.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship of self-resilience, academic self-concept and test anxiety in undergraduates. Method: The participants were 403 undergraduates in H, C University in G City, and K University in S City. Data were collected from March 1 to April 30, 2012, and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: The mean score per item for self-resilience was 2.77. The mean academic self-concept score was 3.17 and the mean score for test anxiety was 2.38. Self-resilience showed a negative correlation with test anxiety (r=-.186, p<.001) and a positive correlation with academic self-concept (r=.312, p<.001). Academic self-concept showed a negative correlation with test anxiety (r=-.353, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that self-resilience and academic self-concept enhancement programs should be developed to reduce test anxiety in undergraduates and that further study should be done on the effects of such programs.

The sample selection consisted of 1484 high school seniors in Korea. The following are the results of this study: First, female students scored higher in academic achievement than male students. Second, academic achievement by male students was related to levels of school satisfaction, academic motivation, and family strength, while academic achievement by female students was related to levels of parents' education, family income, ego-resiliency, school satisfaction, academic motivation, and family strength. Third, the most important predictor of academic achievement for male and female students is academic motivation, followed by school satisfaction. • The purpose of this study was to investigate ways to improve the effect of English-medium instruction (EMI) in Korean universities by comparing EMI lectures in two Korean universities with those in a Japanese university. Some universities run all courses in English while others do so for only part of them. This study comparatively investigated how EMI courses were run by these two groups of universities. For the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with EMI instructors and students to find out what merits and problems that such EMI programs had in EFL environment of Korea and Japan. Another important goal was to correct problems and improve the Korean programs. The result showed that the most important issue of EMI programs in Korean universities was students' low English proficiency. It also demonstrated that English for Academic Purposes (EAP) was necessary to overcome this problem. It is a key to the success of MI programs. Hopefully, this study will stimulate continuous discussions on limitations and ways to improve EMI in Korean universities in various aspects.

Methods: Data collection was made out of RISS of Korea. Excel 2016 was used to categorize 210 finally filtered and collected data which included academic journal articles, MA/PhD dissertations, and funded research reports according to analysis criteria by publication year/5-year-term, research theme, research method, and researchers' academic area. Results: Annual/5-year-term analysis shows increasing trends of parent education programs for young children. Quantitative research was the most frequently implemented method, followed by literature reviews, qualitative research, and mixed research method in order. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to synthesize the literature on the sex education programs for Korean college students and to provide a basis for developing effective sex education programs for this population. Methods: Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review method guided this review of studies conducted from 2000 to 2019. Articles were identified through three electronic databases and scholarly web sites. Fifteen articles met the inclusion criteria. Results: Three studies were descriptive, and 12 described interventions. In most of the reviewed studies, sexual knowledge, sexual attitudes, and sexual autonomy improved after sex education interventions. Before providing sex education, the researchers assessed student's needs for sex education and the various topics provided through sex education programs. Conclusion: When developing sex education programs, we need to a) focus on practical sexual knowledge including contraceptive methods, b) provide repeated and continuous education of a sufficient duration, c) provide comprehensive sex education beyond biological sex, and d) use various teaching methods to allow participants to gain a better understanding. Additionally, sex education should be conducted by experts such as nurses or trained educators to provide systematic and comprehensive education for young adults.

  • The influences of the basic academic skills to the scholastic achievement grades has been researched and we made a test of the basic academic skills(Korean language, mathematic, foreign language) to the students of engineering department in I college in Seoul and analyzed the correlation between the basic academic skills and the scholastic achievement grades. Results show that the scholastic achievement grades has a correlation(r=.456, p<0.01) to the average grade of the basic academic skill test. High level students of the scholastic achievement grades have a correlation(r=.292, p<0.01) to the mathematical department and the others have a correlation(r=.232, p<0.05 and r=.279, p<0.01) to the Korean linguistic department. The results of this study through multiple regression analysis indicate that the scholastic achievement has a relation on Korean language skill. As a result, It is recommendable that the mathematical basic academic skill programs are suggested to the high-level students of the scholastic achievement grades and the linguistic basic academic skill programs to the others. Also, the required basic linguistic subject is needed to the low-level students of the basic academic skills and in this paper, we propose the test and management system for the basic campus-life skills including the basic academic skills and the basic major skills.
