The Effects of Clinical Practice Stress and Resilience on Nursing Students' Academic Burnout

  • The high degree of academic burnout experienced during academic life indicates that job skill levels during the first year following graduation are low, and the correlation with turnover intention is high. We investigated the effects of clinical practice stress and resilience on nursing students' burnout, and searched for factors that can prevent or control burnout. We recruited a convenience sample of 202 nursing students. Academic burnout, general characteristics, clinical practice stress, and resilience were assessed via self-reported questionnaires. The mean total score of academic burnout was 44.0 points; exhaustion was the highest at 18.5 points, inefficacy was 15.9 points, and cynicism was 9.6 points. High levels of clinical practice stress affected academic burnout (β=0.194, p=0.003), while high resilience was a factor that lowered the degree of academic burnout (β=-0.449, p<0.001). Based on our results, factors affecting students' experiences of academic burnout were clinical practice stress and resilience. We therefore propose the implementation of a new curriculum aimed at increasing satisfaction with the major, reducing clinical practice stress, and increasing resilience, including an efficient peer mentoring program for clinical practice.

20세기 대학연구의 상업화와 지적재산권 제도의 변화 (The Commercialization of Academic Research in the Context of Shifting Intellectual Property Regimes in the Twentieth Century)

  • This article chronicles key shifts in intellectual property regimes in the twentieth century as they related to the commercialization of academic research. The institutionalization and growth of scientific research in the research university in the twentieth century and the increasing awareness of its potential to promote technology innovation and economic growth posited an important question of the ownership of knowledge created in the academic setting, where knowledge was traditionally regarded as a common property among academic researchers. This paper shows the ownership of academic knowledge emerged as a key public policy and legal issue in the latter half of the twentieth century for academic researchers and government officials who pursue the commercialization of academic knowledge for private gain and public benefit. The resulting institutionalization of patent management in the research university and shifts in federal patent policy in turn opened a new legal avenue for the establishment of the private ownership of academic knowledge and the expansion of intellectual property rights in academia, especially in the area of biological and biomedical research. Reflecting upon historical shifts in intellectual property regimes in the twentieth century, this paper suggests recent controversies regarding ownership of biological knowledge and profit sharing in developing counties are linked to critical issues pertinent to the welfare of indigenous population, utilization of new natural resources, and sustainable development for humanity.

아동이 지각한 부모의 성취지향적 양육태도가 자아탄력성을 매개로 학교생활적응과 학업성취도에 미치는 영향 (The Mediating Effects of Ego-Resilience on Achievement-Oriented Parenting Style, School Adjustment and Academic Achievement as Perceived by Children)

  • This study examined the relationships among children's perspectives on achievement-oriented parenting style, ego-resilience, school adjustment, and academic achievement. In order to analyze the associations, the study conducted a secondary analysis of the data found in the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) 2010-2011, which was a non-randomized controlled study designed with a longitudinal follow-up. We analyzed 1,212 students who were in the fourth and fifth grade at elementary school with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results were as follows. First, higher achievement-oriented parenting style was associated with higher ego-resilience that contributed to higher academic achievement and higher school adjustment. Second, higher achievement-oriented parenting style was directly related to lower academic achievement and lower school adjustment. The findings support that children's ego-resilience is an important factor to improve school adjustment and academic achievement. In addition, the achievement-oriented parenting style is not helpful for their children's school outcomes (such as academic achievement and adjustment) even though parenting style improved their children's ego-resilience. Ego-resilience that is developed by achievement-oriented parenting style is likely to enhance children's school adjustment and academic achievement. The study presents policy and practice implications, limitations and areas for further research.

간호대학생의 간호전문직관과 학업적 정서조절이 대학생활 적응에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Nursing Professionalism and Academic Emotional Regulation on College Life Adjustment in Nursing College Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nursing professionalism, academic emotional regulation, and college life adjustment level and to identify the influence of nursing professionalism and academic emotional regulation on college life adjustment. Methods: Data collection was conducted with 142 junior and senior nursing college students using structured self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0. Results: There was a positive correlation between nursing professionalism, academic emotional adjustment, and college life adjustment. The significant predictors of overall college life adjustment were major satisfaction, nursing professionalism, and academic emotional regulation. The significant predictors of clinical practice adjustment were gender, major satisfaction, and nursing professionalism. Conclusion: When developing a program to improve college life adjustment in nursing college students, it is necessary to find ways to improve nursing professionalism and academic emotional regulation as well as major satisfaction.

대학도서관 서비스 품질 평가 기준 개발에 관한 연구 (A Development of Service Quality Evaluation Criteria for Academic Libraries in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 학술도서관 서비스 품질에 대한 국내 외의 최근 연구 동향을 살펴보고, 지난 2010년과 2011년에 각각 실시된 '대학도서관 시범 평가'와 '전문대학도서관 시범 평가'를 진단하고, 2015년 3월 27일 공포(법률 제13222호)된 "대학도서관진흥법"과 2015년 9월 28일 제정(대통령령 제26547호)된 "대학도서관 진흥법시행령"의 시행에 따른 향후 '대학도서관 평가'에 대해 전망하였다. 그리고 국내 외의 대학도서관 서비스 품질 평가 기준의 사례 분석을 통해 그리고 우리나라의 대학도서관 서비스 품질 평가 기준 개발에 있어서 참고하거나 적용해야 할 주요 시사점을 도출하였다.

대학캠퍼스의 인지적 외부 공간환경에 대한 재학생만족도가 학업성취도에 미치는 영향 연구 (The Effects of College Students' Satisfaction in Perceived Public Outdoor Spatial Environment on the Level of Academic Achievement)

  • Public outdoor spatial environment and its convenient facilities are playing an important role in providing space for various student activities in university campus. Previous studies have shown that many socio-demographic-economic students' background and motivation have impacted the level of academic achievement. Moreover, research also contended that school facilities at some points also influenced students' academic performance. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between the level of academic achievement and satisfaction of various spatial environment through survey. For that purpose, one university campus was selected and evaluation indexes were categorized into five major components of physical and experimental environment, later supported by factor analysis. Correlation analysis found that extracted factors were significantly interrelated to academic achievement. Further, regression analysis also explored sense of belonging as major predictor of academic achievement. Finally the study suggested that campus plan be approached carefully, because such experimental environment as diverse club activities at outdoor environment is a key element to academic achievement even though rated low scores in satisfaction.

국가적 학술정보공동활용의 활성화를 위한 대학도서관의 주제별 특성화 정책에 관한 연구 (A Policy Study on Subject-oriented Specialization of University Libraries to Facilitate Sharing of National Academic Information Resources)

  • 대학도서관 자료의 전문화, 세분화된 학술정보자료의 공동수집 및 공동이용은 대학 내 연구의 활성화와 대학간 다양화, 특성화, 지역화를 추진하게 할 것이다. 이것은 국가 및 대학 차원에서 대학도서관의 특성화, 차별화 정책을 기반으로 할 때 가능할 것으로 보인다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대학도서관의 주제별 특성화를 기반으로 한 국가적 학술정보공동활용체계를 제안했으며, 구체적으로 두 가지 방안을 제시하였다. 첫째 한국교육학술정보원을 중심으로 형성된 협력망을 이용하는 방법과 둘째. 주제 또는 지역별로 형성된 각종 협의회를 중심으로 주제별 특성화를 유도하고 이를 활용하는 방법이다.

민간 포털의 책, 전문정보 서비스와 대학도서관 서비스 (Search Portals and Academic Libraries: An Analysis of the Book Services and Academic Information Services of Major Search Portals)

  • 국내외 검색 포털들은 검색 이외에도 다양한 서비스를 개발하고 있으며, 최근에는 책, 전문정보 서비스 분야에도 적극적으로 진출하고 있는 상황이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내외 주요 검색 포털들의 책, 전문정보 서비스를 분석, 평가하고, 국내 주요 포털들과 대학도서관과의 연계 현황을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 포털의 책 서비스, 전문정보 서비스의 개선에 활용되고, 이용자가 우수한 책, 전문정보 서비스 선택시 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 또한 본 연구의 결과는 향후 대학도서관 서비스의 차별화에 시사점을 제공할 것으로 사료된다.

The influence of breakfast on the academic performance of school-age adolescents: systematic review

  • Purpose: This review article provides an overview of the importance of breakfast by examining the relationship between breakfast and academic achievement including the papers published in Korean. Methods: This study searched a total of six domestic and international databases. The main search words for searching the database were 'breakfast,' 'morning meal,' 'adolescent,' 'teen or teenage,' 'children' and 'academic performance,' and used search operators when available such as 'breakfast AND adolescent AND academic performance'. Results: We searched a total of 274 studies through six databases and included a total of 15 primary studies in which 12 studies were cross-sectional and three were cohort studies. Since a quantitative integration of the primary studies was difficult to achieve such as performing a meta-analysis, this study performed a descriptive analysis of all the 15 studies and the results have shown that eating breakfast has a significant effect on academic achievement. In other words, students who regularly had breakfast showed more than twice the academic performance compared to those who did not have breakfast, and even though the math scores of students who had breakfast were statistically significantly higher, none of the study results inferred the reason. Conclusion: This study showed the importance of eating breakfast during adolescence by presenting that academic achievement increases with regular or more frequent habits of eating breakfast.

간호대학생의 학업스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Affecting Academic Stress of Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study were to identify degree and the relationship between of self-efficacy, social support, and academic stress of nursing college students. Method: This study was a descriptive research study to analyze the factors affecting academic stress. Data were collected by structured questionnaires from June 10 to 30, 2020. The survey conducted an online survey of 159 students in D and B city. Data were analyzed descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression Results: Academic stress were correlated with self-efficacy(r=-.41, p<.001) and social support(r=-.40, p<.001). In a multiple regression, self-efficacy(β=-.170, p=.010), social support(β=-.137, p=.042) were associated academic stress. These factors attributed to 22.2% of the total variance in academic stress. Conclusion: Therefore the factors affective intervention techniques need to be applied to the development of programs to upgrade mental health academic stress of nursing students.
