A Novel Phase Noise Reduction In Oscillator Using PBG(Photonic Band Gap) Structure and Feedforward Circuit

  • In this paper, PBG structure and feedforward circuit has been used to suppress the phase noise of the oscillator. Microstrip line resonator have low Q, but we can obtain high LO power by feedforward circuit and improve the resonator Q by the PBG, simultaneously. The proposed oscillator which uses PBG and feedforward circuit shows 0${\~}$20 dB phase noise reduction compared to the conventional oscillator. We have obtained -115.8 dBc of phase noise at 100 kHz offset from 2.4 GHz center.

  • This paper proposes a design method of sliding mode observer for SISO linear systems with a disturbance input. We first construct an observer with a constant gain matrix, a feedforward injection map and an external feedforward compensation signal input. Using the second Lyapunov method, we present a sufficient condition for the existence of sliding mode observer. The proposed observer guarantees that the state error trajectories enter a certain region in finite time and remain inside thereafter.

  • A novel design of frequency multiplier using a feedforward technique and a defected ground structure(DGS) is proposed. The feedforward loop in the proposed frequency multiplier suppresses the fundamental component $(f_0)$, the dumb-bell or spiral shaped DGS diminish unwanted harmonics such as second, third and fourth. Due to the combination of the feedforward structure and the DGS, only the multiplied frequency component$(2f_0,\;3f_0,\;4f_0)$ appears at the output port and the other unwanted components are suppressed excellently. The frequency multiplier is designed at 1 GHz $(f_0)$, by the proposed technique and measured. The measured output power of $2f_0,\;3f_0$ and $4f_0$ is -2.59 dBm, -5.36dBm and -4.57dBm, respectively, when the input power is 0dBm.

  • A linear power amplifier is particularly emphasized on the system using a linear modulations, such as 16QAM and QPSK with pulse shaping, because intermodulation distortion which causes adjacent channel interference and co-channel interference is mostly generated in a nonlinear power amplifier. In this paper, parameters of a linearization loop, such as an amplitude imbalance, a phase imbalance and a delay mismatch, are briefly analyzed to get a specific cancellation performance and linearization bandwidth Experimental results are presented for IMT-2000 frequency band The center frequency of the feedforward amplifier is 2140MHz with 60MHz bandwidth When the average output power of feedforward amplifier is 20 Watt, the intermodulation cancellation performance is more than 28dB. In this case, the output power of feedforward amplifier reduced 3.5dB because of extra delay line loss and coupling loss. The feedforward amplifier efficiency is more than 7% for multicarrier signals.

  • We investigate how a feedforward neural network works to separate a geometric region from its complement. Our investigations are restricted to regions in ${\mathbb{R}}$ or ${\mathbb{R}}^2$ including an interval, a triangular region, a disk and the union of two disjoint disks. We also examine what happens at each layer of the network.

  • This paper concerns on a non-rotating single-DOF beam-active magnetic bearing(AMB) system subject to arbitrary shaped base motion. In such a system, it is desirable to retain the beam within the predetermined air-gap under foundation excitation. Motivated form this, an adaptive acceleration feedforward control is proposed to reduce the base motion response without deteriorating other feedback control performances. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the acceleration feedforward control.

A Study on the Improved of the Harmonic Distortion of the Operational Amplifier (연산증폭기의 고조파 왜곡 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Generally, the distortion of the negative feedback amplifier is reduced by a factor equal to the return difference (1+${\beta}_1A_1$), but the proposed feedforward amplifier is reduced by a factor equal to the square of the return difference (1+${\beta}_1A_1$). In this paper, a feedforward amplifier with error correction is designed and implemented. So as to evaluate the characteristics of the harmonic distortion that the inverting feedforward amplifier is compared with that of the reference amplifier without feedforward error correction. It is confirmed that the proposed method should be able to reduce much greater than compared with a conventional negative feedback amplifier. Therefore it should be noted that the proposed feedforward amplifier network is also acceptable for wide-band amplifiers and the network which is demanded to improve the harmonic distortion.

  • A brush-less type synchronous generator driven by an internal-combustion engine is used for emergency electric source. These types of generators have to maintain a certain range of output voltage even under the sudden load change conditions such as full load application and removal. This paper describes a method for suppressing the output voltage of a synchronous generator that operates excessively when the load fluctuates. The method used in this paper is a feedforward control method in which the main voltage control consists of a feedback loop using a typical PID controller and the load current is detected as a disturbance element and compensated directly. A feedforward system is constructed in which the load current is regarded as disturbance, and the appropriate feedforward controller configuration and parameters are found through simulation. Finally, it can be seen through the experiment that the feedforward control is performed properly. It can be seen that the generator terminal voltage is recovered to the steady state in a short period of time as compared with the existing PID control method even when the entire load of the generator is changed.

  • A low spur phase-locked loop (PLL) with FVCO-sampled feedforward loop-filter has been proposed. Conventional PLL has loop filter made of a resistor and capacitors. The proposed PLL is working stably with the filter consisted of capacitors and a switch. It has been designed with a 1.8V $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and proved by simulation with HSPICE.

  • This paper concerns on application of active magnetic bearing(AMB) system to levitate the elevation axis of an electro-optical sight mounted on moving vehicles. In such a system, it is desirable to retain the elevation axis within the predetermined air-gap while the vehicle is moving. An optimal base acceleration feedforward control is proposed to reduce the base motion response. In the consideration of the uncertainty of the system model, a filtered-x least-mean-square(FXLMS) algorithm is used to estimate the frequency response function of the feedforward control which cancels base motions. The frequency response function is fitted to an optimal feedforward control. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control reduces the air-gap deviation to 27.7% that by feedback control alone.
