Feeding habits of Syngnathus schlegeli were studied by using samples collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay, Korea from January 1994 to December 1994. Syngnathus schlegeli was a carnivore which mainly consumed copepods and epiphytal gammarid amphipods. Its diets included small quantities of caprellid amphipods, tanaids and mysids. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. In its initial feeding stage, copepods were major food organisms. However, gammarid amphipods were heavily selected with the incretment of the fish size. Food availability in the eelgrass bed changed seasonally. Its main food items were changed according to variations of food availability. Copepods were mainly consumed in spring, and gammarid amphipods in summer and fall.

A total of 164 individuals of Hippocampus coronatus were collected from an eelgrass bed in Dongdae Bay, Korea from September 2006 to August 2007. The number of individuals of H. coronatus was higher in September 2006. The size of H. coronatus ranged from 2.4 to 9.3cm in height (Ht), and most of individuals were small size below 5cm (Ht). H. coronatus was a carnivore which consumed mainly gammarid amphipods and copepods. Its diets also included a small amount ofmysids, ostracods, brachiopods, caprellid amphipods, bathynellaceas, isopods, tanaids, and ascothoracids. The diets of H. coronatus underwent size-related changes; smaller individuals consumed copepods, while larger individuals ate gammarid amphipods and mysids. The dietary breadth index of H. coronatus was increased with increasing of their size.

The objectives of this study to determine seasonal changes in species composition and abundance of fish and decapod assemblage, and the relationships between environmental factors and their abundance in an eelgrass bed of Jindong Bay. A total of 26 fish species and 29 decapod species were collected by a small beam trawl from an eelgrass bed in Jindong Bay in 2002. The dominant fish species were Hexagrammos otakii, Pholis neulosa and P. fangi and these accounted for 48.4 % in the total number of individuals. Dominant decapod taxa were Palaemon macrodactylus, Charybdis japonica, Pagurus minutus and C. bimaculata. These were primarily small species or early juveniles of larger species. Species composition and abundance varied greatly showing a peak in the number of individuals in April and May, and peak biomass in fish in July and decapods in August. Catch rate was low in winter months both in fish and in decapod. Seasonal changes in the abundance of fishes and decapods corresponded with eelgrass biomass and abundance of food organisms indirectly.

Zosterin is a pectin from a seagrasses of the family Zosteraceae. Zosterin was given to rats intragastrically once 1h before the emotional stress or injection of indomethacin, or administration of 2, 4-D solution daily for seven days at dose of 100 mg/kg. The data obtained demonstrate that zosterin enhances resistance of the stomach tissue to various ulcerogenic factors (emotional stress, indomethacin, pesticide 2, 4-D). It was shown to possess a gastroprotective effect, which is accompanied by diminution of the number and sizes of destructive regions in the gastric mucosa during the ulcer affection, as well as reduction of ATP and glycogen deficit, decrease of lactate excess, and normalization of the energy balance in the gastric mucosa. According to its antiulcer effect, zosterin may be recommended for application in prevention and treatment of stomach diseases together with the basic therapy.
Feeding habits of Pseudoblennius percoides collected from the eelgrass bed in Dongdae Bay from January to December 2005 were studied. P. percoides was a carnivore which mainly consumed fishes and caridean shrimps. Its diets included small quantities of mysids, amphipods (gammarid amphipods and caprellid amphipods), copepods, cephalopods, polychaetes, and crabs. P. percoides undergoes significant size-related changes; smaller fish (<3.0 cm SL) prey mainly copepods, gammarid amphipods, and mysids while the proportion of caridean shrimps and fishes increases with fish size. Fishes and caridean shrimps were major prey organisms for all seasons. Dietary breadth of P. percoides was lower with fish size and seasons.
Void fraction of air bubble in the seagrass bed by photosynthesis was estimated with sound speed dispersion. A field experiment was conducted at Seagrasss bed of which bottom type is sandy mud and 120 kHz CW waveform was transmitted to obtain backscattered signals from seagrass bed. The differences of the arrival time of received signal from seagrass bed were observed between day and night. The diurnal variation of arrival time was caused by sound speed dispersion of air bubble generated by photosynthesis of seagrass.

A study on changes on the distribution of vascular hydrophytes and the growth pattern of Schenoplectus triqueter (Scirpus triqueter) was undertaken at the Nakdong River estuary from 2002 to 2004. The change was due to physical alteration of the estuary for the past 25 years. These plant species are the major food sources for winter waterfowl. A total of 32 species of vascular hydrophytes from 17 families were found in the West Nakdong River (freshwater), the main channel of Nakdong River (freshwater) and the Nakdong River Estuary (brackish water). After the construction of the barrage on the estuary in 1987, the number of hydrophytes has remarkably increased to 17 species (5 species in 1985) in the main channel of the River. In particular, a community of Eurale ferox was found at the backwater wetland of the Daejeo side of the main channel. The introduced species of Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes that were epidemic in 2001 at West Nakdong River was not found any more. The other species such as Nymphoides indica, Myriophyllum spicatum, Ruppia spp. were rediscovered. The large area (about 1,300ha) of Zostera spp. was the main sources of food for swans, but disappeared because of direct and indirect impacts of reclamation in the River estuary. Currently, there remains a small patch of Zostera spp. and about 250ha of S. triqueter. Schenoplectus triqueter grew mostly between April-September and tuber formed, between September-October. The growth of S. triqueter up to $60\sim80cm$ in length was observed in 5 sites out of the 7 sites in brackish area. Tubers of S. triqueter were eaten by waterfowls such as swans as winter food. In five sites, tubers took $44\sim57%$ of total biomass in October. Tubers were found in deep layers; $5\sim15cm$ (9%), $15\sim25cm$ (28%), $25\sim40cm$ (55%), below 40cm $(6\sim7%)$. The distribution of vascular hydrophytes has remarkably changed in the Nakdong River Estuary due to the reclamation of the area. In order to determine the extent of changes of the distribution of these plants and the carrying capacity of the area for waterfowl, an intensive research is urgently needed.

A total of 3 epiphytic macroalgae were collected from eelgrass bed in Jindong Bay, and Scytosiphon lomentaria and Colpomenia sp. in Phaephyta, Gracilaria sp. in Rhodophyta occurred during study periods. For epiphytic microalgae (diatoms), Cocconeis scutellum and Cocconeis placentula were common species. Seasonal variations of epiphytic algal biomass were marked: the higher epiphytic macroalgae was 3.3 g $DW/m^2$ in November 2003; whereas epiphytic diatoms were 43,153 $cells/m^2$ in June 2003. Diversity and number of epiphytic macroalgae species were the lowest in the study area, compared with those of in other areas such as Koongyang Bay, Dongdae Bay, and Aenggang Bay. These results were therefore likely due to the severe physical characteristics of the intertidal mudflat eelgrass biological characteristics, and the deterioration of water quality.
This was the second study on the ecological characteristics of the epiphytes on seagrass leaf. The objective of this study was to understand the variation of epiphytes on seagrass leaf depending on the change of physico-chemical factors such as salinity, nutrients, and etc. This study showed the four results. 1) The eelgrass growth was influenced by water temperature, suggesting the positive correlation between eelgrass growth and water temperature. 2) The epiphytes growth on seagrass leaves did not show the correlation with water temperature, but negatively correlated with salinity. 3) The eelgrass growth decreased when the concentraion of nitrogen increased. 4) However, loads of epiphytes increased when the concentration of total nitogen (TN), nitrate ($NO_3^-$), and nitrite ($NO_2^-$) were high. This increase of epiphytes growth could be suggested in the cause-effect pathway of nutrient enrichment leading to seagrasses loss.
Feeding habits of Favonigobius gymnauchen collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. Favonigobius gymnauchen was a carnivore which consumed mainly gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, crabs and copepods. Its diets included minor Quantities of gastropods, tanaids and isopods. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals (1$\~$2 cm) fed mainly on gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, and copepods. While the portion of the stomach contents attributable to polychaetes and crabs increased steadily with incensing fish size, consumption of copepods decreased progressively. Gammarid amphipods were the most selected prey item for all size classes. Although gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, crabs and copepods were major prey organisms for all seasons, the relative proportion of these food items changed with season. Consumption of copepods was relatively high in spring and fall and consumption of gammarid amphipods, polychaetes and crabs was relatively high in summer.
