BACnet(Building Automation and Control networks) is a standard data communication protocol designed specifically for building automation and control systems. BACnet provides five options for datalink layer protocols and these five datalink layer options can be applied with various transmission media. Recently wireless technology prevails in automation area. ZigBee is a standard protocol based on IEEE 802.15.4 for low-speed wireless communication network. In this study, we propose a BACnet/ZigBee model that uses ZigBee wireless technology in a BACnet communication network system as a wireless datalink layer protocol. We also applied this model to a lighting control system to evaluate the feasibility of proposed technology. The technology proposed in this paper can extend the application of BACnet not only for building automation but also for home automation by taking the advantages of ZigBee wireless communication technology in BACnet communication network systems.

This paper presents experimental results on frequency interference phenomena between WiFi and ZogBee communication systems which are used for wireless communication in a port. When communication systems use a frequency band in a region, it hurts communication reliability. Hence, understanding and analysis on frequency interference phenomena through experiments. With various experiments between WiFi and ZigBee, we find out that 26th channel of ZigBee collides with WiFi communication channels, which is unknown result yet.

In this paper, we designed and implemented ubiquitous u-Health system using RFE and ZigBee. We made a wireless protocol Kit which combines RFE Tag recognition and ZigBee data communication capability. The software is designed and developed on the TinyOS. Wireless communication technologies which hold multi-protocol stacks with RFID and result in the wireless ubiquitous world could be Bluetooth, ZigBee, 802.11x WLAN and so on. The environments that the suggested u-Health system may be used is un-manned nursing, which would be utilized in dense sensor networks such as a hospital. The the size of devices with RFID and ZigBee will be so smaller and smaller as a bracelet, a wrist watch and a ring. The combined wireless RFID-ZigBee system could be applied to applications which requires some actions corresponding to the collected (or sensed) information in WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) and/or WPAN(Wireless Person Area Network). The proposed ubiquitous u-Health system displays some text-type alert message on LCD which is attached to the system or gives voice alert message to the adequate node users. RFE will be used as various combinations with other wireless technologies for some application-specific purposes.

ZigBee is becoming a promising communication protocol for wireless sensor networks based on low-power consumption. In case of a ZigBee network requesting continuous transmission of sensed data, the required bandwidth can be overwhelm the maximum transmission rate of 150Kbps. However, the ZigBee router which delivers data from source node to destination node can transmit data at most in a half of maximum rate because the router can not send and receive the data simultaneously. In this paper, we propose and implement a dual-channel router which can send and receive data simultaneously. Also, we propose a centralized channel allocation algorithm to allocate different channels to each module. The experiment result by the proposed dual-channel router shows a maximum throughput of 150Kbps as large as twice of normal single-channel router.

In this paper, a home network gateway has been developed, which supports the ZigBee and power line communication methods at the same time. A conversion protocol for smooth information exchange between ZigBee module and power line communication module have been implemented on the gateway, and the performance and reliability of the gateway have been evaluated as good through field tests. The gateway can support various home networks.
This paper suggests how to design a ZigBee-chip-based communication module to remotely measure radiation level. The suggested communication module consists of two control processors for the chip as generally required to configure a ZigBee system, and one chip module to configure a ZigBee RF device. The ZigBee-chip-based communication module for remote radiation measurement consists of a wireless communication controller; sensor and high-voltage generator; charger and power supply circuit; wired communication part; and RF circuit and antenna. The wireless communication controller is to control wireless communication for ZigBee and to measure radiation level remotely. The sensor and high-voltage generator generates 500 V in two consecutive series to amplify and filter pulses of radiation detected by G-M Tube. The charger and power supply circuit part is to charge lithium-ion battery and supply power to one-chip processors. The wired communication part serves as a RS-485/422 interface to enable USB interface and wired remote communication for interfacing with PC and debugging. RF circuit and antenna applies an RLC passive component for chip antenna to configure BALUN and antenna impedance matching circuit, allowing wireless communication. After configuring the ZigBee-chip-based communication module, tests were conducted to measure radiation level remotely: data were successfully transmitted in 10-meter and 100-meter distances, measuring radiation level in a remote condition. The communication module allows an environment where radiation level can be remotely measured in an economically beneficial way as it not only consumes less electricity but also costs less. By securing linearity of a radiation measuring device and by minimizing the device itself, it is possible to set up an environment where radiation can be measured in a reliable manner, and radiation level is monitored real-time.
In Home Area Network (HAN) of the smart grid, Power Line Communication (PLC) technology and ZigBee communication technology can be used in the communication among the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices. However, according to performance evaluation results of the PLC technology, we find that using the PLC technology is unsuitable for the remote meter reading service. It is worth noting that some parts of the PLC are converted to the ZigBee communication technology in Jeju, Korea. Compared with PLC, ZigBee has no restriction of the place, where the equipments can be freely set up, due to the advantage of radio communication. However, number of usable devices will impact the network performance which is depended on the address assignment. In addition, due to the restriction of transmission range among devices, it is difficult to apply the ZigBee address assignment method to the practical circumstance. In this paper, we examine the previous ZigBee address assignment schemes and the corresponding routing algorithms, and propose a novel address assignment scheme compared with the existing methods, the performance of the proposed one is improved. In particular, evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the average number of hop count, the transfer time and the processing time.

In this paper, we propose an emotion transfer system based on LED, which presents and transmitts users emotion through Bluetooth and ZigBee using LED light. We propose an emotional LED system interacting multiple LED lighting system and implement the proposed system using smartphone and WPAN network with Bluetooth and ZigBee. For the transmission of data, ZigBee is adopted for each LED lighting system and Bluetooth is utilized for the smartphone. Also, the LED lighting systems which are connected to smartphone have both ZigBee and Bluetooth module for the heterogeneous network. The implemented system shows the validity and applicability of the proposed system.

In this paper, we have measured PRR, RSSI and LQI of ZigBee channels under Wi-Fi environment and have assessed channel characteristic and link quality. To confirm any relationship among RSSI, LQI values and PRR under Wi-Fi interference in overlapping and non-overlapping channels of Wi-Fi and ZigBee, the experiments were performed without Wi-Fi, with Wi-Fi and file download through Wi-Fi. Under Wi-Fi interference, We perfomed experiments to ensure channel characteristics and link quality by fixing Wi-Fi and ZigBee receiver and varying the distance between ZigBee receiver and transmitter. ZigBee transmitter sends packet of 256 bits every second to ZigBee receiver. PRR was measured from ZigBee with variance of distance between fixed Wi-Fi and ZigBee. RSSI, LQI, PRR were measured from ZigBee with fixed Wi-Fi, fixed ZigBee receiver and variance of distance of ZigBee transmitter. As a result, we confirmed decrease of PRR under Wi-Fi interference but RSSI, LQI values similar regardless of overlapped or non-overlapped channel and Wi-Fi interference. Therefore, PRR should be used for interference detection in ZigBee communication under Wi-Fi environment but RSSI and LQI are not appreciate.
Our goal of study is to develop an automatic carkeeping book using ZigBee Protocol. Car owner gets information of car by PDA or Mobile phone through ZigBee wireless communication network, Running distance, tuning information of car, refueling information and repair information are automatically downloaded from Gas-Station or Tuning-shop. Finally, carkeeping book is automatically recorded without typing.
