On the basis of equal health hazard risk, economic assessment of nuclear was compared with that of coal for the expansion planning of electric power generation in the year 2000. In comparing health risks, the risk of coal was roughly ten times higher than that of nuclear according to various previous risk assessments of energy system. The zero risk condition can never be achievable. Therefore, only excess relative health risk of coal over nuclear was considered as social cost. The social cost of health risk was estimated by calculation of mortality and morbidity costs. Mortality cost was $250,000 and morbidity cost was $90,000 in the year 2000.(1986US$) Through Cost/Benefit Analysis, the optimal emission standards of coal-fired power generation were predicted. These were obtained at the point of least social cost for power generation. In the year 2000, the optimal emission standard of SOx was analyzed as 165ppm for coal-fired power plants in Korea. From this assessment, economic comparison of nuclear and coal in the year 2000 showed that nuclear would be more economical than coal, whereas uncertainty of future power generation cost of nuclear would be larger than that of coal.
The isotope effect of pure liquid on vapor pressure is examined, and the vapor pressure ratios of two different isotopes are calculated. Based on the Significant Structure Theory of Liquids, the effect of molecular weight and the effect of moments of inertia are dominant in ordinary/trans-$d_2$ ethylene isotopes; the effect of hindered rotational zero-point energy is dominant in trans-$d_2$/cis-$d_2$ ethylene isotopes; and the effect of intermolecular potential difference is found in $CH_3OH/CH_3OD$ isotopes. In the isotopes of $CH_4/CD_4,\;SiH_4/SiD_4\;and\;GeH_4/GeD_4$, the weight effect decrease in the order of $CH_4/CD_4 >SiH_4/SiD_4 >GeH_4/GeD_4$.
Background: Radiation dose rates in PRIDE facility is evaluated quantitatively for assessing radiation safety of workers because of large amounts of depleted uranium being handled in PRIDE facility. Even if direct radiation from depleted uranium is very low and will not expose a worker to significant amounts of external radiation. Materials and Methods: ORIGEN-ARP code was used for calculating the neutron and gamma source term being generated from depleted uranium (DU), and the MCNP5 code was used for calculating the neutron and gamma fluxes and dose rates. Results and Discussion: The neutron and gamma fluxes and dose rates due to DU on spherical surface of 30 cm radius were calculated with the variation of DU mass and density. In this calculation, an imaginary case in which DU density is zero was added to check the self-shielding effect of DU. In this case, the DU sphere was modeled as a point. In case of DU mixed with molten salt of 50-250 g, the neutron and gamma fluxes were calculated respectively. It was found that the molten salt contents in DU had little effect on the neutron and the gamma fluxes. The neutron and the gamma fluxes, under the respective conditions of 1 and 5 kg mass of DU, and 5 and $19.1g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$ density of DU, were calculated with the molten salt (LiCl+KCl) of 50 g fixed, and compared with the source term. As the results, similar tendency was found in neutron and gamma fluxes with the variation of DU mass and density when compared with source spectra, except their magnitudes. Conclusion: In the case of the DU mass over 5 kg, the dose rate was shown to be higher than the environmental dose rate. From these results, it is concluded that if a worker would do an experiment with DU having over 5 kg of mass, the worker should be careful in order not to be exposed to the radiation.
In this study, catalyst was made through incipient wetness method using palladium (Pd) as noble metal, indium (In) as secondary metal, and montmorillonite (MK10) and Al pillared montmorillonite (Al-MK10) as supporters. The nitrate reduction rate of the catalysts was measured by batch experiments where H2 gas was used as reducing agent and formic acid as pH controller. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were all used to determine the elemental distribution of Pd, In, Al, and Si on catalysts. It was observed that Al pillaring increased the Al/Si elemental composition ratio and point of zero charge of MK10, but decreased its BET specific surface area and pore volume. The nitrate reduction rate of Al-MK10 Pd/In was 2.0 ~ 2.5 times higher than that of MK10 Pd/In using artificial groundwater (GW) in ambient temperature and pressure. Nitrate reduction rates in GW were 1.2 ~ 1.7 times lower than those in distilled deionized water (DDW). Nitrate reduction rates in acidic conditions were higher than those in neutral condition in both GW and DDW. The amount of produced NH3-N over degraded NO3- at acid conditions was lower than that of neutral condition. Even though the leaching of Pd after reaction was measured in DDW it was not detected when both Al-MK10 Pd/In and MK10 Pd/In were used in GW. The modification of montmorillonite as a supporter significantly increased the reductive catalytic activities of nitrates. However, the ratio of producing ammonia by-products to degraded nitrates in ambient temperature and pressure was similar.
Based on the fact that a human being walks naturally and stably with consuming a minimum energy, this paper proposes a new method of generating a natural gait of 5-link biped robot like human by analyzing a COG (Center Of Gravity) trajectory of human's gait. In order to generate a natural gait pattern for 5-link biped robot, it considers the COG trajectory measured from human's gait images on the sagittal and frontal plane. Although the human and 5-link biped robot are similar in the side of the kinematical structure, numbers of their DOFs(Degree Of Freedom) are different. Therefore, torques of the human's joints cannot are applied to robot's ones directly. In this paper, the proposed method generates the gait pattern of the 5-link biped robot from the GA algorithm which utilize human's ZMP trajectory and torques of all joints. Since the gait pattern of the 5-link biped robot model is generated from human's ones, the proposed method creates the natural gait pattern of the biped robot that minimizes an energy consumption like human. In the side of visuality and energy efficiency, the superiority of the proposed method have been improved by comparative experiments with a general method that uses a inverse kinematics.
The DFT and ab initio calculations have been performed to elucidate hydrogen interaction of HOOO-(H2O)n (n=1~5) clusters. The optimized geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and binding energies are predicted at various levels of theory. The trans conformer of HOOO monomer is predicted to be thermodynamically more stable than cis form at the CCSD(T) level of theory. For HOOO-(H2O)n clusters, the geometries are optimized at B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ and CAM-B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ levels of theory. The binding energy of HOOO-H2O cluster is predicted to be 6.05 kcal/mol at the MP2//CAM-B3LYP/ aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory after zero-point vibrational energy (ZPVE) and basis set superposition error (BSSE) correction. The average binding energy per H2O is increased according to adding a H2O moiety in HOOO-(H2O)n clusters up to 7.2 kcal/mol for n=5.

TTI is a small label of which the color changes by time-temperature history during food storage. The food shelf life (SL) was compared with that of TTI, the time for TTI to reach the end-point of its color change, for the various discrepancies in two Arrhenius activation energies (Ea), an important parameter of temperature dependence. The SL of TTI and food were mathematically simulated, based on zero-order and first-order kinetics, respectively. In the case Ea of food was smaller than that of TTI, the SL of food was larger than that of TTI, meaning TTI reaches the end-point of color change earlier even though food is still fresh. In the case of Ea of food > Ea of TTI, the food reaches the SL earlier than the TTI. In addition, the magnitude of ${\Delta}Ea$ between food and TTI led to the bigger ${\Delta}SL$. To be safe, $SL_{Food}$ > $SL_{TTI}$ would be practical although $SL_{Food}{\fallingdotseq}SL_{TTI}$ is ideal.

The density functional theory(DFT) and ab initio calculations have been applied to investigate hydrogen interaction of $H_2O_3(H_2O)_n$ clusters(n=1-5). The structures, IR spectra, and H-bonding energies are calculated at various levels of theory. The $trans-H_2O_3$ monomer is predicted to be thermodynamically more stable than cis form at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ level of theory. For clusters, the geometries are optimized at the MP2/cc-pVTZ level of theory. The binding energy of $H_2O_3-H_2O$ cluster is predicted to be -6.39 kcal/mol at the CCSD(T)//MP2/cc-pVTZ level of theory after zero-point vibrational energy (ZPVE) and basis set superposition error (BSSE) correction. This result implies that $H_2O_3$ is a stronger proton donor(acid) than either $H_2O$ or $H_2O_2$. The average binding energies per $H_2O$ are predicted to be 8.25 kcal/mol for n=2, 7.22 kcal/mol for n=3, 8.50 kcal/mol for n=4, and 8.16 kcal/mol for n=5.
The synthesis of methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen was studied for various compositions of Cu/ZnO catalyst system. Effect of the composition ratio of CuO and ZnO on the catalytic activity in the above reaction and the relationship between the activity and the characteristics of the catalysts were explained from the result of surface area measurements, SEM, XRD, and XPS. The major products of the reaction were methanol and carbon monoxide. The selectivity to methanol increased with increase of the copper oxide content in the catalyst up to CuO: ZnO = 30:70 weight ratio, and decreased rapidly when the content is above 70%. SEM and BET measurements, indicate that this point corresponds to the increasing point of the catalyst crystallite size and the decreasing point of the surface area. As to the Cu/Cu + Zn atomic ratio, the surface concentration of copper measured by XPS decreased remarkably when the copper oxide content in catalyst was higher than 50%. All the unreduced catalysts had almost same binding energy of Cu(2P3) level, but the binding energy for $Cu(2P^3)$ level of reduced catalysts was lowered than that of calcined catalysts. The surface copper species which was in the maximum amount when the CuO:ZnO composition in the catalyst was 30:70, existed as zero valent copper. This result agreed with the experimental result that the highest rate of methanol formation was observed when the CuO content in the catalyst was 30%. It was postulated that these reduced catalysts performed with a relatively strong basicity because the formation rate of acetone was higher than that of propylene in isopropanol decomposition as measured in a pulse type reactor.

Purpose: NEMA NU2-2001 was proposed as a new standard for performance evaluation of whole body PET scanners. in this study, system performance of Siemens CTI ECAT EXACT 47 PET scanner including spatial resolution, sensitivity, scatter fraction, and count rate performance in 2D and 3D mode was evaluated using this new standard method. Methods: ECAT EXACT 47 is a BGO crystal based PET scanner and covers an axial field of view (FOV) of 16.2 cm. Retractable septa allow 2D and 3D data acquisition. All the PET data were acquired according to the NEMA NU2-2001 protocols (coincidence window: 12 ns, energy window: $250{\sim}650$ keV). For the spatial resolution measurement, F-18 point source was placed at the center of the axial FOV((a) x=0, and y=1, (b)x=0, and y=10, (c)x=70, and y=0cm) and a position one fourth of the axial FOV from the center ((a) x=0, and y=1, (b)x=0, and y=10, (c)x=10, and y=0cm). In this case, x and y are transaxial horizontal and vertical, and z is the scanner's axial direction. Images were reconstructed using FBP with ramp filter without any post processing. To measure the system sensitivity, NEMA sensitivity phantom filled with F-18 solution and surrounded by $1{\sim}5$ aluminum sleeves were scanned at the center of transaxial FOV and 10 cm offset from the center. Attenuation free values of sensitivity wire estimated by extrapolating data to the zero wall thickness. NEMA scatter phantom with length of 70 cm was filled with F-18 or C-11solution (2D: 2,900 MBq, 3D: 407 MBq), and coincidence count rates wire measured for 7 half-lives to obtain noise equivalent count rate (MECR) and scatter fraction. We confirmed that dead time loss of the last flame were below 1%. Scatter fraction was estimated by averaging the true to background (staffer+random) ratios of last 3 frames in which the fractions of random rate art negligibly small. Results: Axial and transverse resolutions at 1cm offset from the center were 0.62 and 0.66 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D), and 0.67 and 0.69 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D). Axial, transverse radial, and transverse tangential resolutions at 10cm offset from the center were 0.72 and 0.68 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D), 0.63 and 0.66 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D), and 0.72 and 0.66 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D). Sensitivity values were 708.6 (2D), 2931.3 (3D) counts/sec/MBq at the center and 728.7 (2D, 3398.2 (3D) counts/sec/MBq at 10 cm offset from the center. Scatter fractions were 0.19 (2D) and 0.49 (3D). Peak true count rate and NECR were 64.0 kcps at 40.1 kBq/mL and 49.6 kcps at 40.1 kBq/mL in 2D and 53.7 kcps at 4.76 kBq/mL and 26.4 kcps at 4.47 kBq/mL in 3D. Conclusion: Information about the performance of CTI ECAT EXACT 47 PET scanner reported in this study will be useful for the quantitative analysis of data and determination of optimal image acquisition protocols using this widely used scanner for clinical and research purposes.
