Design of MR dampers to prevent progressive collapse of moment frames

  • In this paper the progressive collapse resisting capacity of steel moment frames with MR dampers is evaluated, and a preliminary design procedure for the dampers to prevent progressive collapse is suggested. Parametric studies are carried out using a beam-column subassemblage with varying natural period, yield strength, and damper force. Then the progressive collapse potentials of 15-story steel moment frames installed with MR dampers are evaluated by nonlinear dynamic analysis. The analysis results of the model structures showed that the MR dampers are effective in preventing progressive collapse of framed structures subjected to sudden loss of a first story column. The effectiveness is more noticeable in the structure with larger vertical deflection subjected to larger inelastic deformation. The maximum responses of the structure installed with the MR dampers designed to meet a given target dynamic response factor generally coincided well with the target value on the conservative side.

Photografting of PET Fabrics with Vinyl Pyrrolidone and Acryloyl Morpholine Monomers

  • PET fabrics were photografted under continuous UV irradiation with vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) and acryloylmorpholine(ACMO) as monomers and benzophenone as a hydrogen-abstractable photoinitiator. ACMO can be grafted onto the PET fabrics more efficiently than VP. The grafted PET surfaces were characterized by ATR, ESCA, SEM and zeta potential measurement. ATR and ESCA analysis indicated significant alterations on chemical structure and atomic composition on the surface of the grafted fabrics, where nitrogen content increased with increasing grafting yield. SEM images showed that the fabric surface was covered with the grafted polymers. The zeta potentials and the water wettability of the grafted PET increased with grafting. Also the photografted fabrics showed an increased dyeablity to reactive dyes and increased affinity to various iodine species which imparted anti-bacterial properties.

  • The excitation mechanism of polycyclic aromatic amines (amino-PAHs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) for the chemiluminescence arising from the reaction between oxalate ester, bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate (TCPO) or bis(2,4-dinitrophenyl)oxalate (DNPO) and hydrogen peroxide has been studied in terms of the excitation efficiencies to singlet excitation energies and the oxidative half-wave potentials. As a results of the study, the excitations of both amino-PAHs and PAHs appear to involve the charge transfer type of energy transfer. However the chemiluminescence efficiency corrected for fluorescence quantum yield of the amino-PAHs are varied more sensitively to the oxidative half-wave potential than that of PAHs possibly due to the large difference in solvation energy between the compounds and their ions.

Novel Model Predictive Control Method to Eliminate Common-mode Voltage for Three-level T-type Inverters Considering Dead-time Effects

  • This paper proposes a novel common-mode voltage (CMV) elimination (CMV-EL) method based on model predictive control (MPC) to eliminate CMV for three-level T-type inverters (3LT2Is). In the proposed MPC method, only six medium and one zero voltage vectors (VVs) (6MV1Z) that generate zero CMV are considered as candidates to perform the MPC. Moreover, the influence of dead-time effects on the CMV of the MPC-based 6MV1Z method is investigated, and the candidate VVs are redesigned by pre-excluding the VVs that will cause CMV fluctuations during the dead time from 6MV1Z. Only three or five VVs are included to perform optimization in every control period, which can significantly reduce the computational complexity. Thus, a small control period can be implemented in the practical applications to achieve improved grid current performance. With the proposed CMV-EL method, the CMV of the $3LT^2Is$ can be effectively eliminated. In addition, the proposed CMV-EL method can balance the neutral point potentials (NPPs) and yield satisfactory performance for grid current tracking in steady and dynamic states. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

홀스타인의 국제유전평가를 위한 모형개발에 관한 연구 (Development of International Genetic Evaluation Models for Dairy Cattle)

  • 본 연구는 국내 국가단위 평가결과의 문제점을 해결하면서 유전 능력평가시스템을 고도화하고 우리나라가 국제유전평가에 참여하기 위하여 국제평가기구에서 요구하는 검증작업을 통과하기 위하여 수행하였다. 본 연구에 이용된 자료는 농협중앙회 젖소개량부에서 수집한 분만일이 2001년부터 2009년까지의 검정성적으로 총 1,416,589개이며 산차는 5산으로 제한하였으며, 누적착유일은 75~305일로 제한하였고, 전체 혈통자료는 2,279,741개이며 부모를 갖는 개체는 535,409개이고 아비소는 2,467두로 구성되어 있는 기록들을 이용하였다. 유량, 유지방, 유단백에 대한 육종가는 신규로 개발한 다형질모형(Multiple traits model)을 이용하여 육종가를 구하였으며 기초작업은 SAS version 9.2와 R프로그램을 이용하였으며 유전모수를 추정하기 위하여 VCE 6.0을 이용하였다. 전반적으로 유전적 추세는 꾸준히 지속되어 오고 있으며 산차별 차이가 두드러지게 나타나지는 않았다. 유지방을 제외하고 유량과 유단백 형질의 추세가 잘 추정되었음을 알 수 있다. 유전평가분석결과 상위 1000두의 랭킹안에 최근의 생년을 갖는 딸소가 기존에 사용한 모수로 분석한 결과보다 딸소가 증가했음을 알 수 있다. 국제유전평가모형을 통해 새로 평가한 결과 씨수소상위 100두를 기존 평가모형에 의한 평가결과와 비교했을 때, 2006년생은 23두에서 28두로 2007년생은 12두에서 20두로 2008년생은 2두에서 8두로 증가하였다. 이는 최근의 딸소나 씨수소의 유전능력이 우수함에도 불구하고 상위에 랭크되지 못했던 결과가 새 모형의 적용으로 보완하여 새로운 평가분석에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 기존의 단형질 모형 대신 다형질 모형을 이용한 분석방법으로 평가를 실시하고 국제유전평가에도 다형질 모형을 이용한 육종가를 제시함으로써 다형질 선발의 정확도가 향상될 수 있을 것이다.

가축 액상분뇨의 시용방법이 벼의 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Application Methods for Liquid Pig Slurry on Growth and Yield of Rice(Oryza sativa L.))

  • 본 연구는 액상분뇨 시용방법의 벼의 생육특성, 수량, 수량구성 요소, 쌀 품질에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 실시되었다. 처리는 액상분뇨를 기비만 처리한 처리구, 액상분뇨를 기비로 시용하고 화학비료를 추비로 시용한 시험구, 대조구로 화학비료 시용구를 두었다. 시험결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 1. 초장은 생육초기 화학비료구가 가장 큰 것으로 나타났으나 생육후기에는 초장의 차이가 처리구 간에 크지 않았다. 분얼 수의 경우도 화학비료구가 액비 시용구보다 더 많았다. 엽록소 함량은 생육초기 화학비료 시용구에서 생육 후기에는 처리간에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 2. 수량구성 요소에 있어서 주당수수는 화학비료구가 가장 많은 것으론 나타났다. 수당립수는 액상분뇨 시용구에서 가장 많았으며 천립중은 시비처리구 사이에 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 등숙율에 있어서는 화학비료 시용구가 높은 것으로 나타났다 3. 벼의 정조수량은 화학비료 시용구에서 가장 높았고 액비+화학비료구에서 $3\%$ 액상분뇨 시용구에서 화학비료 시용구 대비 $5\%$ 감수되었다. 4. 쌀 품질은 액상분뇨 시용구와 액비기비 +화학비료 추비구가 화학비료구에 비해 상당히 높게 나타났다. 단백질 함량은 액비 시용구가 화학비료 시용구보다 유의성있게 낮았다. 따라서 쌀 품질 향상에 적절한 양의 액비 시용이 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Potential Methane Production on Anaerobic Co-digestion of Swine Manure and Food Waste

  • Anaerobic co-digestion of swine manure and food waste for biogas production was performed in serum bottles at various volatile solids(VS) contents and mixing ratios of two substrates(swine manure:food waste=$100:0{\sim}0:100$). Through kinetic mode of surface methodology, the methane production was fitted to a Gompertz equation. The ultimate methane production potential of swine manure alone was lower than that of food waste regardless of VS contents. However, it was appeared that maximum methane production potentials in 80 : 20 of the mixing rate at VS 3% was enhanced at 144.7%, compared to its only swine manure. The potential increased up to 815.71 ml/g VS fed as VS concentration and food composition increased up to 3.0% and 20%, respectively. The ultimate amount of methane produced had significantly a positive relationship with that of methane yield rate. Overall, it would be strongly recommended that feeding stocks use 20% of mixing ratio of food waste based on VS 3% contents when operating the anaerobic reactor on site at $35^{\circ}C$ if not have treatment of its anaerobic waste water.

상수 염소 처리 과정중에 형성되는 N-니트로소디메틸아민에 대한 이해: 전구체의 특징, 경로와 경감 (Understanding N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) formation during chloramination: Precursor characteristics, pathways and mitigation)

  • N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) is a class of disinfection byproducts and a frequently detected nitrosamine with carcinogenic potentials. This review summarizes NDMA precursors, their formation mechanisms in chloraminated water, and mitigation strategies. Understanding the formation mechanism and characteristics of precursors is essential for developing a mitigation strategy. Dimethylamine (DMA), the most widely studied NDMA precursor, has an NDMA molar yield up to 3%. In comparison, a subset of tertiary amines, e.g., pharmaceuticals, generate up to 90% upon chloramination. Potent NDMA precursors, are characterized by their negative partial charge, low planarity values and molecular weight, and high bond length and $pK_a$ values. A nucleophilic substitution of tertiary amine on chloramine is a key reason for the high NDMA yield from the most potent NDMA precursors. The distribution and fate of NDMA in surface water, aquifers, and its formation in the distribution system can be mitigated through two strategies: (1) degrading or/removing NDMA after its formation and (2) pre-treatment of its precursor's prior chloramination.

Modelling Pasture-based Automatic Milking System Herds: Grazeable Forage Options

  • One of the challenges to increase milk production in a large pasture-based herd with an automatic milking system (AMS) is to grow forages within a 1- km radius, as increases in walking distance increases milking interval and reduces yield. The main objective of this study was to explore sustainable forage option technologies that can supply high amount of grazeable forages for AMS herds using the Agricultural Production Systems Simulator (APSIM) model. Three different basic simulation scenarios (with irrigation) were carried out using forage crops (namely maize, soybean and sorghum) for the spring-summer period. Subsequent crops in the three scenarios were forage rape over-sown with ryegrass. Each individual simulation was run using actual climatic records for the period from 1900 to 2010. Simulated highest forage yields in maize, soybean and sorghum- (each followed by forage rape-ryegrass) based rotations were 28.2, 22.9, and 19.3 t dry matter/ha, respectively. The simulations suggested that the irrigation requirement could increase by up to 18%, 16%, and 17% respectively in those rotations in El-Nino years compared to neutral years. On the other hand, irrigation requirement could increase by up to 25%, 23%, and 32% in maize, soybean and sorghum based rotations in El-Nino years compared to La-Nina years. However, irrigation requirement could decrease by up to 8%, 7%, and 13% in maize, soybean and sorghum based rotations in La-Nina years compared to neutral years. The major implication of this study is that APSIM models have potentials in devising preferred forage options to maximise grazeable forage yield which may create the opportunity to grow more forage in small areas around the AMS which in turn will minimise walking distance and milking interval and thus increase milk production. Our analyses also suggest that simulation analysis may provide decision support during climatic uncertainty.

건설폐기물, 생활폐기물의 용출특성 분석과 BMP test를 통한 최종메탄(CH4) 및 황화수소(H2S) 수율 산정 (Estimation of Ultimate Methane and Hydrogen Sulfide Yields for C&D Waste and MSW Using BMP Test)

  • The main object of this study was to offer information about incoming waste in landfill and to evaluate biochemical methane and hydrogen sulfide potentials of landfill wastes. We examined brick, soil, mixed waste (C&D waste and MSW) samples for the study. The leaching experiments showed that BOD, COD and sulfate were determined in the range of 0~18,816 mg/kg, 85~21,100 mg/kg and 160~1,205 mg/kg, respectively in 6hr extraction test. An accumulated extraction tests for 140day were determined BOD 226~197,219 mg/kg, COD 436~242,588 mg/kg and Sulfate 1,090~25,140 mg/kg. Also, BMP (biochemical methane potential) tests were carried out to examine methane and hydrogen sulfide yields for the 3 different wastes. As a result, methane yield was determined to 262.68 mL $CH_4/g$ VS of MSW and 0~17.75 mL $CH_4/g$ VS in brick, soil and C&D waste. Higher hydrogen sulfide yield was observed to 0.079mL $H_2S/g$ VS in C&D waste. This result indicate that brick and soil could be sources of sulfate, and higher production of hydrogen sulfide could be odor problem and inhibitor of methane production.
