  • This paper investigates the characteristics of deflection for circular plate that has same supporting condition along the width direction of plate according to the area change of supporting end. For two boundary conditions such as simple supporting and clamping on both ends, this study derives maximum deflection formula of circular plate using differential equation of elastic curve, assuming that a circular plate is a beam with different widths along the longitudinal direction. The deflection formula of circular plate is verified by carrying out finite element analysis with regard to the ratio of length of supporting part to radius of circular plate.

  • This paper deals with the vibration deflection shape measurement technique for a sinusoidally excited structure using a continuously scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (CSLV). The CSLV output signal is an amplitude-modulated vibration in which the excitation signal is modulated by the deflection shapes, and thus the deflection shapes of vibration defined along a scan line can be derived by the envelop and the phase information of the CSLV output signal. In this work, a Hilbert transform based approach has been proposed for measurement of deflection shapes. This technique is as simple as the demodulation technique and allows more convenient experimental settings than the Fourier transform approach. The feasibility of the proposed technique is illustrated along with results of experiment.

  • The low-cost, simple structured micropump which is actuated by piezoelectric-discs, is fabricated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and the performances of the micropump, such as pump rate and backpressure, are characterized. The PDMS micropump with diffusers instead of passive check valves as a flow-rectifying element was fabricated. The deflection of glass diaphragm measured by atomic force microscope (AFM) is about 0.4$\mu\textrm{m}$ when applying a 150V square wave voltage at 300Hz across a 300${\mu}\ell$ thick piezoelectric disc. While the square wave driving voltage is applied to the piezoelectric disc of the actuator, the flow rate is measured by fluid displacement variation of the outlet tube. The flow rate of micropump increases with enhancing the applied voltage due to the increase of diaphragm deflection. The flow rate and the backpressure of the micropump with diffusers are about 32.9${\mu}\ell$/min and 173Pa respectively for the above mentioned deflection conditions.

  • In this study the investigation of large deflections subject in compliant mechanisms is presented using homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The main purpose is to propose a convenient method of solution for the large deflection problem in compliant mechanisms in order to overcome the difficulty and complexity of conventional methods, as well as for the purpose of mathematical modeling and optimization. For simplicity, a cantilever beam of linear elastic material under horizontal, vertical and bending moment end point load is considered. The results show that the applied method is very accurate and capable for cantilever beams and can be used for a large category of practical problems for the aim of optimization. Also the consequence of effective parameters on the large deflection is analyzed and presented.

  • In general, the laminated rubber bearing (LRB), a composite structure laminated with the elastic rubber and steel plates, has a complex hysteretic nonlinear characteristics in relationships between the restoring force and shear deflection. The representative nonlinear characteristics of LRB include the change of hysteresis loop with cyclic shear deflections and the hardening effects at large shear deflection regions. Changes of the hysteresis loop of LRB with cyclic shear deflections affect the horizontal stiffness and the damping characteristics. The hardening behavior of LRB in large shear deflection region results in an increased horizontal stiffness and therefore, has a great impacton the seismic responses. In this paper, the seismic response analysis is carried out using the modified hysteretic bi-linear model of LRB, which takes into account the hysteresis loop change and the hardening behavior with cyclic shear deflection. The results on seismic responses are compared with those obtained using the widely used hysteretic hi-linear model. The new model is found to reveal the greater amount of peak acceleration response.

  • The support deflection effects in slabs with beams and girders are reviewed for both cases of the uniformly distributed and concentrated wheel loads. The differences in structural behavior according to the variation of support stiffness namely, the moment of inertia of beam and gilder, and the slab thickness, are calculated using the finite element method. Besides. the correction factors which can consider the support deflection effects in slab design are proposed by regression based on the obtained numerical results. Through the comparision studies of slabs with different boundary conditions, the importance for the consideration of support deflection effects in design are emphasized.

  • Springback for the three point bending is anlayzed and experimented. Neutral axis is assumed to remain at the midthickness for large ratio of radius of curvature to thickness. Pure bending theory is used to be extended to the analysis of the springback for three point bending. The specimen is thought to be divided into numerous small elements. The theory for pure bending is then adopted for analysis of each element to obtain springback in terms of the relationship between initial and final deflections. the boundary conditions between neighborhood elements are the deflection and slope which should be the same. Deflection is calculated by summing up the deflections of each element. Experiments have been performed for different conditions which are punch radius, span length, and initial deflections. Comparisons between the analytical solution and experimental results show the same trends.

  • Hihg Tensile Steel enables to reduce the plate thickness comparing to the case when Mild Steel is used. From the economical view points this is very preferable since the reduction in the hull weight. however to use the High Tensile Steel effectively the plate thickness may become thin so that the occurrence of buckling is inevitable and design allowing plate buckling may be necessary. If the inplane stiffness of the plating decreases due to buckling the flexural rigidity of the cross sect6ion of a ship's hull also decreases. This may lead to excessive deflection of the hull girder under longitudinal bending. In these cases a precise estimation of plate's behavior after buckling is necessary and nonliner analysis of isolated and stiffened plates is required for structural sys-tem analysis. In this connection this paper discusses nonlinear behaviour of thin plate under thrust. Based on the analytical method elastic large deflection analysis of isolated plate is perform and simple expression are derived to evaluated the inplane rigidity of plates subjected to uniaxial compression.

  • In order to perform a detailed analysis of large deflection behaviour of a rectangular plate, an efficient semi-analytical method is developed in this paper. The method is called Incremental Galerkin Method. This method is successfully applied to plates with initial deflection subjected to in-plane and out-of-plane loads to obtain the whole histories of the behaviour of these plates. Application of this method to rectangular plates with initial deflection is presented. Comparisons of results obtained by this method with those obtained by other methods are made and the validity of the method is demonstrated.
