  • Let A denote a unital normed algebra over a field K = R or C and let e be the identity of A. Given $a \in A$ and $x \in A$ with $\Vert x \Vert = 1$, let $$ V(A, a, x) = {f(ax) : f \in A', f(x) = 1 = \Vert f \Vert}. $$ Then the (Bonsall and Duncan) numerical range of an element $a \in A$ is defined by $$ V(a) = \cup{V(A, a, x) : x \in A, \Vert x \Vert = 1}, $$ where A' denotes the dual of A. In [2], $V(a) = {f(a) : f \in A', f(e) = 1 = \Vert f \Vert}$.

  • In this paper, the finite element formulation for the thermal analysis of quasi-static, uncoupled, homogeneous, isotropic and linear viscoelastic problems is presented based on the principle of virtual work. The viscoelastic material is assumed to be thermorheologically simple, which is well known material property in a large class of high polymers. The variational formulation and the finite element equation in matrix from are derived. Effective generation and storage of the hereditary stiffness matrices are given in detail especially for the case of the steady state temperature distribution T=T(x). Some numerical examples are given and compared with published results to show the versatility of the derived finite element formulations.

  • A series of experiments demonstrated that an addition of Ag into $(Cu_{0.5}Zr_{0.5})_{100-x}Ag_{x}$ amorphous alloys alters the plasticity of the alloys in a systematic manner. Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) conducted on the $(Cu_{0.5}Zr_{0.5})_{100-x}Ag_{x}$ alloys exhibited the presence of compositional modulation, indicating that compositional separation had occurred. The presence of compositional modulation was also validated using a combined technique of molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation. In this study, the effect of Ag on the compositional separation in $(Cu_{0.5}Zr_{0.5})_{100-x}Ag_{x}$ bulk amorphous alloys was investigated to understand the role played by the phase-separating element on the plasticity of the amorphous alloys.

  • In this study, actuator, sensor, guide, power transmission element and control method are considered for ultra-precision positioning apparatus. Through previous process, single plane X-Y stage with ultra-precision positioning is manufactured. Global stage for the purpose of materialization with robust system, is combined by using AC servo motor and ball screw and rolling guide. And ultra-precision positioning system is developed by micro stage with elastic hinge type and piezo element. global servo and micro servo for the purpose of materialization positioning accuracy with nm(nanometer) are controlled simultaneously by using incremental encoder and laser interferometer as displacement measurement sensor. Through previous process, ultra-precision positioning system (100mm stroke and ${\pm}$ 10nm positioning accuracy) with single plane X-Y stage are materialized.

  • The structure of the magnetic funnel element in the intermediate polar is con-sidered in terms of an important site for the X-ray absorption and the reemis-sion of the X-ray as the optical light. In this paper the column density and the optiacl depth vary with the filling factor, which is introduced to characterize the structure of matter in the magnetic funnel element. The results of the en-ergy dopendence of the X-ray spectrum and the modulation depth of the X-ray light curve are discussed.

  • In the developement of LNG cargo, the current concern focuses on the slim design of insulation layer to increase the LNG carrying capacity. Not only thermal stability with BOR(Boil-Off Rate) but structual stability against the LNG weight and the sloshing phenomenon must be also considered. In this paper, we applied the stitched sandwitch composite called the 3X-Board which is stitched through the core thickness direction using glass fiber to the LNG cargo. We evaluated the thermal and structural characteristics of 3X-Board by changing the core thickness and the material, in order to explore a validity for the slim design through the finite element analysis.

  • If we use a third order approximation for the displacement function of beam element in finite element methods, finite element solutions of beams yield nodal displacement values matching to beam theory results to have no connection with the number increasing of elements of beams. It is assumed that, as the member displacement value at beam nodes are correct, the calculation procedure of beam element stiffness matrix have no numerical errors. A the member forces are calculated by the equations of $\frac{-M}{EI}=\frac{{d^2}{\omega}}{dx^2}\;and\;\frac{dM}{dx}=V$, the member forces at nodes of beams have errors in a moment and a shear magnitudes in the case of smaller number of element. The nodal displacement value of plate subject to the lateral load converge to the exact values according to the increase of the number of the element. So it is assumed that the procedures of plate element stiffness matrix calculations has a error in the fundamental assumptions. The beam methods for the high accuracy ratio solution Is also applied to the plate analysis. The method of reducing a error ratio of member forces and element stiffness matrix in the finite element methods is studied. Results of study were as follows. 1. The matrixes of EI[B] and [K] in the equations of M(x)=EI[B]{q} and M(x) = [K]{q}+{Q} of beams are same. 2. The equations of $\frac{-M}{EI}=\frac{{d^2}{\omega}}{dx^2}\;and\;\frac{dM}{dx}=V$ for the member forces have a error ratio in a finite element method of uniformly loaded structures, so equilibrium node loads {Q} must be substituted in the equation of member forces as the numerical examples of this paper revealed.
