Theoretical analysis have been performed to design the high power semiconductor laser for an optical sensor at 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength range which is the lowest loss wavelength in optical fiber. The materials of active region and SCH were $Ln_{1-x}Ga_xAs_yP_{1-y}$. In order to use the light source of optical sensors, it has to satisfy wide spectral width and short coherence length. Therefore, in order to suppress lasing oscillation, we proposed laterally tilted PBH type with a window region. Also, tapered stripe structure was applied for high coupling efficiency into a single mode fiber. From these analyses, the devices of laterally tilted angled and bending structure were fabricated and their characteristics were measured. In the results of the measurement, the fabricated devices have sufficient output power and wide FWHM to apply to the light source of optical fiber sensors.
We report on electrical and mechanical properties of silicon nitride ($SiN_x$) films deposited by a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method at $200^{\circ}C$ from $SiH_4$ highly diluted in $N_2$. The films were also prepared from $SiH_4$ diluted in He for comparison. The $N_2$ dilution was also effective in improving adhesion of the $SiN_x$ films, fascilitating construction of thin film transistors (TFTs). Metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) and Metal-insulator-Metal (MIM) structures were used for capacitance-voltage (C-V) and current-voltage (I-V) measurements, respectively. The resistivity and breakdown field strength of the $SiN_x$ films from $N_2$-diluted $SiH_4$ were estimated to be $1{\times}10^{13}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, 7.4 MV/cm, respectively. The MIS device showed a hysteresis window and a flat band voltage shift of 3 V and 0.5 V, respectively. The TFTs fabricated by using these films showed a field-effect mobility of $0.16cm^2/Vs$, a threshold voltage of 3 V, a subthreshold slope of 1.2 V/dec, and an on/off ratio of > $10^6$.
Observation of hydrometeors' behavior in the atmosphere is important to understand weather and climate. By conventional observations, we can get the distribution of water vapor at limited number of points on the earth. In this study, the precipitable water has been estimated from the split window channel data on GMS-5 based upon the technique developed by Chesters et al.(1983). To retrieve the precipitable water, water vapor absorption parameter depending on filter function of sensor has been derived using the regression analysis between the split window channel data and the radiosonde data observed at Osan, Pohang, Kwangiu and Cheju staions for 4 months. The air temperature of 700 hPa from the Global Spectral Model of Korea Meteorological Administration (GSM/KMA) has been used as mean air temperature for single layer radiation model. The retrieved precipitable water for the period from August 1996 through December 1996 are compared to radiosonde data. It is shown that the root mean square differences between radiosonde observations and the GMS-5 retrievals range from 0.65 g/$cm^2$ to 1.09 g/$cm^2$ with correlation coefficient of 0.46 on hourly basis. The monthly distribution of precipitable water from GMS-5 shows almost good representation in large scale. Precipitable water is produced 4 times a day at Korea Meteorological Administration in the form of grid point data with 0.5 degree lat./lon. resolution. The data can be used in the objective analysis for numerical weather prediction and to increase the accuracy of humidity analysis especially under clear sky condition. And also, the data is a useful complement to existing data set for climatological research. But it is necessary to get higher correlation between radiosonde observations and the GMS-5 retrievals for operational applications.

This study addreses the design and implrmentation of korean SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Langu-age)editor capable of ggenerating DTD(Document Type Definition)s,which can be used at the same time to gen-erate HTML documents as well] as SGML documents using interactive method.HTML is an appkication of SGML and HTML DTD is defined according to the syntax of SGML.Therefore it is possible to generate HTML documents of any versions by replacing the corresponding DTDs and using the implemented editor. This system has been implemented using GUI such as Motif and UIL(User Interface Language)in X-window system and C-language for common modules of functions.
This paper examines that is extracted certain information in forest areas within high resolution imagery based on wavelet transformation. First of all, study areas are selected one more species distributed spots refer to forest type map. Next, study area is cut 256 x 256 pixels size because of image processing problem in large volume data. Prior to wavelet transformation, five texture parameters (contrast, dissimilarity, entropy, homogeneity, Angular Second Moment (ASM≫ calculated by using Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM). Five texture images are set that shifting window size is 3x3, distance .is 1 pixel, and angle is 45 degrees used. Wavelet function is selected Daubechies 4 wavelet basis functions. Result is summarized 3 points; First, Wavelet transformation images derived from contrast, dissimilarity (texture parameters) have on effect on edge elements detection and will have probability used forest road detection. Second, Wavelet fusion images derived from texture parameters and original image can apply to forest area classification because of clustering in Homogeneous forest type structure. Third, for grading evaluation in forest fire damaged area, if data fusion of established classification method, GLCM texture extraction concept and wavelet transformation technique effectively applied forest areas (also other areas), will obtain high accuracy result.

In a case of mushroom (Lentinus Edodes L.) , visual features are crucial for grading and the quantitative evaluation of the growth state. The extracted quantitative visual features can be used as a performance index for the drying process control or used for the automatic sorting and grading task. First, primary external features of the front and back sides of mushroom were analyzed. And computer vision based algorithm were developed for the extraction and measurement of those features. An automatic thresholding algorithm , which is the combined type of the window extension and maximum depth finding was developed. Freeman's chain coding was modified by gradually expanding the mask size from 3X3 to 9X9 to preserve the boundary connectivity. According to the side of mushroom determined from the automatic recognition algorithm size thickness, overall shape, and skin texture such as pattern, color (lightness) ,membrane state, and crack were quantified and measured. A portion of t e stalk was also identified and automatically removed , while reconstructing a new boundary using the Overhauser curve formulation . Algorithms applied and developed were coded using MS_C language Ver, 6.0, PC VISION Plus library functions, and VGA graphic function as a menu driven way.
The austempering transformation behavior in Fe-0.7wt.%C-2.3wt.%Si-0.3wt.%Mn steel is investigated. Each specimen was austenitized for 60 min at $900^{\circ}C$, and austempered at $380^{\circ}C$ for different time periods varying from 2 min to 256 min. After the austempering heat treatment, the Stage I and II evolutions are performed using optical metallography, X-ray diffraction and image analyses. Variations in the X-ray diffraction patterns and lattice parameters of the ferrite and austenite demonstrate that the residual austenite decomposes into ferrite and carbide during the Stage II evolution; moreover the amount of ferrite increases during the Stage I evolution. While the amount of austenite increases during Stage I, it dicreases during Stage II. Overall, the variations in the volume fractions of the microstructure and carbide formation in stages I and II meet high temperature austempering reaction of the ausferrite microstructure.

In this paper, we define schematic User Interface Task(SUIT) as a scheme which is a conceptual unit to specify the dialogue between man and machine. Using a set of SUITs, the user interface can be described separately from domain applications and can be realized through SUIT Manager(SUITMAN), an execution module devised to interprete and process the descriptions of SUITs. SUIT makes it possible to describe conceptual behaviors performed on the interactions of user interface in early stages of expert system development. SUITMAN analyzes the specification described in SUITs and automatically implements the user interface by using the functions in MOTIF library of X-Window system. By an example of SUIT and SUITMAN to the user interface, we applied them into an expert system, 'Circuit Provisioning Expert System'.

Among numerous material candidates, Cu(InxGa1-x)(SySe2-y) (CIGS) thin films have emerged as promising material candidates for thin film solar cell applications due to the high energy conversion efficiency and relatively low fabrication cost. The CIGS thin film solar cells consist of several materials, including Mo back contacts, ZnO-based window layers, and CdS buffer layers. All these materials have different crystal structures and contain quite distinct chemical elements, and hence the device characterization requires careful analyses. Most of all, identification of the major trap states resulting in the carrier recombination processes is a key step toward realization of high efficiency CIGS solar cells. We have carried out electrical investigations of CIGS thin film solar cells to specify the major trap states and their roles in photovoltaic performance. In particular, we have used the temperature-dependent transport characterizations and admittance spectroscopy. In this presentation, we will introduce some exemplary studies of DC and AC electrical characteristics of the CIGS solar cells.

This paper describes an implementation of the document class editor based on ODA(Open Document Architecture). For processing, we divided document structure into generic logical structure and generic layout structure as ODA standard. Also this editor could edit document profile. Using the utility which was implemented to investigate the composed document by object. we confirmed the document. And we could verify the ODIF stream data of the document. We designed this editor based on DAP level 2 of international functional standard. This system was implemented in environment of the X window system and the Motif as graphical user interface. This document class editor will be used to create real document having specific document structure.
